I have an old (big, heavy) Sizzix machine with lots of dies (red, yellow & green) and a Sizzix Side Kick with quite a few Sizzlets. I just recently purchased a Cuttlebug. I am loving the Cuttlebug, especially the embossing folders, but wondering if I really need to keep the Sizzix and/or the Side Kick since all the dies would work in the Cuttlebug, right?
Space is somewhat of an issue (the bigger issue is that I have too much stuff <lol>) and I am in a major 'decluttering' mood.
Can anyone give me some reasons to keep the Sizzix and/or the Side-Kick?
I recently acquired a Cuttlebug so I could do partial embossing. I still have teh big old original Sizzix machine - I let the kids use it and am not as concerned when/if they do.
But now that you mention it, I am guessing it's not necessary with the CB in the room.
I like my old red Sizzix! I'm not (yet?) into diecuts but I love the CB embossing folders. So (thanks to someone on SCS who posted about a big sale at M's on the original machine) I got my original machine for $7 and my system converter for $6 from Ellison directly, and now I can emboss to my heart's content.
I would think that the Original Sizzix is virtually indestructible! I have no plans to get an expensive machine that is potentially not as sturdy.
I sold my Sizzix after I got my CB. I decided I didn't need both of them and the money I made was used to buy more crafting stuff since it was *free* money :-)

Why keep an antiquated original Sizzix machine when you have the Cuttlebug? Cuttlebug can do the same and more!

PLEASE let me answer that. Because I'm a lazy stamper. I just bought the CB and haven't even taken it out of the box. I still put my folders in my sizzix. Pull the arm quickly 3 times.........done! CB......dig out pieces to put it between. LOL
Now I'm wondering if I just wasted the money. Know? I'm sure I'm the only one that feels this way.
I agree, Carol. Once I got my system converter for the Sizzix, I was thinking, "this is too easy...no layering?...no spacers?...just slide it in and pull the arm?" Piece of cake! No fooling around!
So, you can use Cuttlebug embossing folders in the old Sizzix? I've never tried it, but someone told me that it doesn't work very well to emboss with the CB embossing folders. I'd love to hear that they are wrong because I love the look of the CB folders!

I have the old red sizzix and I was wondering about using cuttlebug folders in it....do you just put the folder in or do you need the clear plates?
It's too bad you didn't ask the question before you bought the CB! I have the old red original and it does everythingthe CB does. I'm not sure what the "and more" is that someone above mentioned, because I can emboss and cut AND use nestabilities with my sizzix, too. I won't buy the CB unless old red dies, or CB comes up with something the sizzix can't do... I saved my money on the CB and bought dies with it instead. And the folders work terrifically, too. When I got my nesties, I just stuck a shim of thin plexiglass in, it worked fantastic. Then, when I wanted to emboss, I replaced the shim with a rubber gasket sheet from Farm Fleet (midwest, you know) for less than 75 cents! Forget the wizard embossing pad for $10!
I have just went through 2 Cuttlebugs! The first one lasted about 60 days and the 2nd for a day! I'm so fustrated with it. I am returning it to Costco tomorrow and purchasing a Sizzix! I have the Sizzix and Cuttlebug. I like the way Sizzix cuts through thicker materials like chipboard that may be too hard on the Cuttlebug. The Cuttlebug is more portable and goes with me to crops and classes.

You can use that trusty red machine to do everything that can be done with the roller-type machines, with one exception...the Bigz dies from Ellison are too wide for the Sizzix.
To use the Cuttlebug embossing folders, get the Systems Convertor and slap it under the presser plate of your Sizzix. The Systems Convertor has a magnetic side which holds it securely to the presser plate. The impression is as good as when done in a Cuttlebug. The SC also is needed to use Slzzlets and other thin dies in your Sizzix and to use Nestabilities.

I've got several tutorials on my blog (DIY Embossing Folders is one) for a Sizzix...I LOVE my mean, red machine!.
I'm considering purchasing this and can't seem to find out if I'll need additional spacers to bridge the gap to use this with my bug. Anyone out there know about this?

Man!! What have you been doing to your Bug!!??? Hhahaha. I've had mine several yrs, and it's still going strong!! LOL
Well, sadly I gave my Old Red Sizzix away to a teacher at work who has an 8 year old daughter.
3 reasons for this. Arthritis, space, Cricut, Happiness
1. Arthritis, mine is causing me problems and the Red Sizzix is just too hard for me to work. I can't move it easily to use, and the pressing down on the handle caused me a lot of problems last time I worked with it. I was kind of sad to get rid of it, but I can use the CB easier, so that's the way it has to be.
2. Space, I am looking to eliminate duplicates and make room for stuff so this is good in the long run.
3. Cricut, since I've gotten hooked on my Cricut, I find some of the dies from the Sizzix are duplicates of what's on the cartridges, so I can make room by getting rid of duplicates. I have been able to cut chip board and fabric with my Cricut, so that solved that problem.
4. Happiness - for me and the little girl. I'm not using the dies, now an 8 year old girl is having a wonderful time. I think highly of the Mom, and Dad has been unemployed for 19 months, they've had to do without a lot, are close to losing their home, etc... Like many people... There isn't much resale value in the old red dies, so the little girl is having a great time and that's good enough for me.
