O.K. I know I should not really be complaining with all the national disasters going on but here it goes anyway.
I recently bought these cool little containers at Office Depot to put all my eyelets in by color and so they would all be together in one box. Can you just guess? You got it.....knocked them off the table today - 48 colors - 1,000's of eyelets everywhere.
How many hours do you think it will take me to separate them again?
Hmmm. Are you starting a pool? I will take 47 minutes
By the way, a similiar thing happened to me. My son snuck into my stamp room and opened all my eyelets on to the floor and neglected to tell me about it. I'm still finding eyelets in my carpet!
I know just how you feel. I did this a couple of months ago. all the kids helped, but I'm still sucking those things up in the vacuum. on the bright side, every time I hear one, I know I have a clear hose.
You probably don't want to hear this, but I found these awesome containers for eyelets. All the sections have a separate lid so you only open one at a time, but the container is clear so you can see all the different ones. It's 2 rows with 7 columns, so I had to get several to fit all my different eyelets, but since I have young children I just didn't want to chance it. They're called Craftmates and they're in the plastic storage section at JoAnn's for $3.99 each (and JoAnn's has been having 40-50% off all plastic storage lately). Michael's also carries them. They're ~$4.29 each there and they're located in the bead isle on the bottom shelf below the beads... anyway...
I hope it doesn't take as long as it sounds it will! Put on some great music to take your mind off it!

Do you mean those medication containers that the elderly & extremely ill people use? Good idea :!: :!:
I FOUND A REALLY COOL CONTAINER AT WALMART IN THE CRAFT SECTION!!! IT'S A CLEAR PLASTIC BOX THAT HAS LITTLE MINI BOXES INSIDE THAT LOOK LIKE T*c TAC MINT CONTAINERS. THEY HAVE A FLIP TOP SO YOU CAN SHAKE OUT AN EYELET OR TWO AT A TIME. THE BOX HAS 24 LITTLE FLIP TOP CONTAINERS INSIDE AND SINCE IT'S CLEAR PLASTIC YOU CAN SEE ALL THE COLORS. NO MORE SPILLED EYELETS!!!! BEST OF ALL IT WAS CHEAP- LESS THAN $5.00.
These little tic-tac like boxes are the ones I finally decided on. Also took all MM eyelets, snaps, brads, etc & put into these boxes so now I don't worry about opening them upside down (everytime). I'm tempted to pick up some of the other type (Sunflower mentioned) - the one's in ACM have a locking mechanism on them & they come in a larger size. And chocolate definitely helps !!

OH My goodness! This post had me laughing hysterically because it reminded me of an incident that I had totally forgotten about! I was at my MIL's house, and she has all of her brads/eyelets in these. Well, let me tell you what a mess my daughter's made when the knocked over the drawers they were in and somehow the containers all exploded open!!! They are great containers, just keep them away from toddlers!! lol :lol:

They are a bit larger than most of those, and have a locking mechanism. But they're made the same yes. And it even had a tag on it that made me think it was made by the same company that makes those. I needed a smaller one for my really small eyelets and bought one at Walmart in the pharmacy section!
I'm excited to hear about that Tic-Tac Container. I hope I can find one at my Walmart!
When I dump my eyelets or brads (a frequent occurrence), I just grab a magnet from my fridge and use that to pick them up. Don't have any good ideas for the sorting, but I like the do 20, eat chocolate idea.
Thank you so much GIRLY GIRL for blowing my sense of secure brads and eyelets right out the window!! Here I was, patting myself on the back for finding the most awesome and secure container for those little buggers and then you post what happened when your daughters knocked over the drawers!!!! I want you to know I went to bed and had nightmares of my containers exploding and sending eyelets and brads everywhere in my studio!! And if you knew how many brads and eyelets I own you would understand the nightmare!!! LOL!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
I use one of those magnet straight pin holders you find in the notions isle at JoAnn's when I'm working with brads, eyelets, etc. It's so nice to know they're not going anywhere!
I read a beading book the other day that said to put a new bag on the vaccum cleaner, vaccum them up and empty out the bag, and collect your beads (or eyelets, or brads or whatever your children spill)

I've done the same thing with my eyelets. It too was a mess, but I have a Rainbow vacuum and picked them all up that way. Then I poured the water out through a strainer and started to seperate them. It took almost 2 days, on and off, to get them all done.
My worst accident to clean up was when my son dumped an entire container full of mirco beads on my hard wood floors. The dog and cat joined us in racing after them all. It was a mess cleaning them up, but we also laughed ourselves silly.
The magnet is a great idea, I'll have to post that tidbit so I don't forget it for the next spill.
