I have only used a Staz-On pad, which works VERY well! I would think that Dye ink would wipe off and craft ink would need to have embossing powder on it, but I don't know for sure.
I only use Staz On, too. I blot it on with a tissue and then stamp an image in black or another darker color on top of the base color (s). Then I coat it with an acrylic spray to finish it off
They are also available at Family Dollar stores in a nice long slender tin.
I use stazon to stamp then either sharpies or chalk with a blender, or classic ink on a sponge to color. Then I seal mine with a light coat of spray sealer or cover with CE. Before the CE dries I like to drop in a bit of bling with a rinestone. Here is one of my very first posts so forgive the lousy photography.
Chalk inks work also if you heat set them. I like using them for background color, then stamp my main image with staz-on over that.
Here's a neat technique I learned at a domino class using chalk inks. . .
Completely cover the back of a domino with a darkish color of chalk ink (don't heat set it at this point). Put the domino in the fridge for 20 - 30 minutes. After you take it out, ink up your stamp with the same color of chalk ink and stamp onto the domino. This will remove the ink from the domino and leave you with kind of a negative image. IMO, bold line images work better than fine line ones. Heat set until the ink is completely dry, then seal.
I got the Tart and Tangy set to use the apple to make dominoes for my mom's kitchen..So I know I don't want the whole image in black but maybe if the outline is in black and the domino is red. Thanks for all the idea's

FYI, embossing can chip off of hard surfaces pretty easily once it cools -- you have to be very careful.

stamp 1, do you have any examples of the technique you mentioned? It sure sounds interesting to me.
I do have one right now, but I don't have a picture of it yet. I'll get one taken then will upload it. I won't be able to do that until Monday since I'm not a Fan Club member. . . Hope to be soon though. Maybe I'll have a chance to make a couple more of them tomorrow so will have more examples for you.
Yesterday I posted a cool technique for using chalk inks on dominoes. Problem was, I remembered wrong. Well, I found my instruction sheet, so here's the right way to do them. . .
1. Cover dominoes with chalk ink.
2. Heat set with a heat gun.
3. Place dominoes in refrigerator or freezer to get cold.
4. Stamp on image with the same color of ink.
5. Let sit for 30 - 40 sec., then wipe off gently with a soft dry cloth or tissue.
I'll post some examples on Monday. Sorry about my boo boo.
I have used regular reinkers on dominos. You have to lightly sand them before you do it. I used q-tips to apply the reinker. I sealed them with triple thick sealer when I was done.
I discovered while making these that it works better if you just put the dominoes in the refrigerator. When I put them in the freezer, the ink was harder to wipe off. I think it froze on it. If you do put them in the freezer, wait just a minute or two for them to warm up just a bit.

Go slowly, not that it would hurt the plastic domino, but the plastic will melt and encase around the drill bit. You'll want to stop about halfway through and quickly remove the plastic around the drill bit while it is really warm so it does not cool and harden and become very difficult to remove.
Another thing I have done in the past is used regular reinkers but with a bit more distressed look. I sanded the domino. Then I put the reinker on the domino. Smooshed it around a bit. Let it set for 5 minutes or more then wiped it off and sanded it a bit more. Then stamped over the top with stazon or crafters ink. The ink just stains the domino so it has a cool aged look
There are tons of people stamping on doms! Lots make them into pendants, but there are bracelets & hair clips & all sorts of stuff! You can drill them yourself, or you can buy them pre-drilled. Here is a good source for buying them pre-drilled: http://smartrubber.com/smartsite_017.htm
Oh, I almost forgot, a little tip that I got that made a HUGE difference... make sure you're using a 'wet' inkpad. I originally tried with a pad that was fine for regular stamping, but was horribly frustrating on doms. It was like the ink was fading, or too light or something. LSS owner suggested reinking the pad till it was really wet - works great now!
I have made 2 batches of the domino necklaces using alcohol re-inkers. The first ones turned out great, the 2nd batch lost their colour when I added the sealer. It was a year or so in between making them so I was stumped on what I had done differently - same inkers, same sealer. Then I remembered that I had soaked the first batch in bleach, that removed the coating the domino came with. Duh, I had not done that step the 2nd time. I guess "sanding" would do the same thing, it just gives the ink something to grab onto.
I want to use color so Do I need a craft ink pad or can I just use regular SU ink pad
You can mix your re-inkers with crystal glaze. Paint it on your stamp and then stamp away. You will need to clean your stamp right away, you don't want to leave it on there very long.

I've tried this with just about every kind of ink, and have found that Staz On and Sharpies have the best staying power.
Also, I use fine grit sand paper on the surfaces before inking or painting. It seems to give the ink something to grab onto.
I am not an expert by any means but I think if you are using stapn you wouldn't have to sand as it is made for glossy surfaces, I love the texture sitting them in bleach overnight gives the surface of the domino, I think other inks sit well on it. jmho

I've never tried the bleaching method because we don't really have anywhere to safely keep them away from a precocious cat.
I have seen it done, and it seems to be a matter of personal perference as far as the end surface result. Equally effective but slightly different.
