. . . would get IGNORED! So here is my big ol' post again. The past few days have been . . . trying, to say the least! Read up. We'll have a quiz later.
Gallery Uploading 101
As more and more people share their wonderful creations in the gallery, we are spending more and more time maintaining it. There have been several issues lately, and I just wanted to outline a few things that can help you avoid having them.
1. Give your FILE a unique name BEFORE YOU UPLOAD IT. When you scan or take a picture of your creation, change the file name on your computer to something unique rather than a number like 1.jpg, or scan001.jpg. When files have the same generic name as others (which is the case a LOT lately), they will get removed when we scan for duplicate posts. So. . .try something like your username_petalprints1.jpg and yours won't get deleted!
2. Please CROP your picture to showcase your creation! I've re-done several uploads to focus on the card rather than the white backdrop you get when you scan. It takes a little bit of time, but the end result is that it's easier for people to appreciate the work you've done!
3. Only upload JPG FILES. Anything else will jam up your upload queue, and Daven will have to go in and fix it while you wait. If you get an error message, send him an email at [email protected] so he can go in and fix it!
4. Watch your FILE SIZE. Max size for the gallery is 640x480 pixels, but the gallery software will take care of that for you if you are unsure about reducing yourself. Mainly what you get through doing it yourself is shorter upload time (because the files are smaller when reduced). By tweaking the images yourself you also have to opportunity to do any color correction, cropping etc. that you want. Scan in your card at 72 dpi (or "for the web" setting). If you take a picture with a digital camera, make sure the setting is "for the internet/web/email" setting, too. (Thanks mhthorpe for the words!)
5. When you upload your creation, PUT THE FILE IN A SPECIFIC GALLERY. Anything you upload will automatically be loaded into your Member Gallery. We have galleries by set, by technique, by type of creation (anything but a card, scrapbooking, events, stampin' spaces, etc). . . and if there is not a gallery that fits, leave it in your member gallery. We'll move it if we see a place for it. And if we have to move your stuff more than once when there is already a category. . . you'll get a happy pm from Beate ;).
6. Fill out the Stamps, Ink, Paper, Technique, Accessories Fields! The more complete your information the easier it is for others to find your work.
7. Try to not submit duplicate uploads. I know it's tough when the server is slow, and you don't know if it went through 'cause the server is chugging. . . but you really don't have to keep uploading till it is approved. - Sometimes we'll get 7-8 duplicate uploads of a single card, and sometimes it's the same card with a slightly different file name, and we have to go in and manually remove them. Just hang tight. If you don't see your stuff within 30 minutes, or by the morning if you upload after about 11 CST . . . . go ahead and re-upload it.
WHEW! If you'd like to read more on how you can make the gallery experience better, read this article Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Thanks for your help with getting the uploads approved and in the gallery faster!
yeah I was guilty for a few of those this week!
I thought it was me with the uploads that had problems!
Sorry I wasn't trying to make anyone's job harder!!
Hello, Claudia!
No harm done, no fussing needed! Just wanted to let everyone know that there are things that can be done to make it easier on everyone browsing the gallery. We can get stuff uploaded to the site much faster if they are in the right spot, and stuff won't disappear (as has happened *so* many times!) if the names are unique. . .
It's the little things that make me happy!
Claudia > go into your profile, and update your signature line so we can click directly into your gallery! It should read: www.splitcoaststampers.com/go/XcessStamps
Jenn, thank you so much for all your hard work! Until someone does somehting of your magnitude one doesn't realize all the work you and others do here!
Kudos to you and all the SCS team!
Debbie
Jenn- thank you so much for all the hard work you do.
I went back and cropped some of my earlier uploads. I have a silly question. When I was editing some of my cards yesterday and adding a watermark, I discovered a couple errors in some of my descriptions.....a wrong stamp set or color, typo...things like that. I wanted to fix my errors so the info would be correct for people needing the details. When I did this, it sent the picture to be approved again. Is there anyway to edit the details of the description without the picture having to be approved again? I wanted to fix my errors but then felt horrible because I new someone would have to approve it again. I felt so bad! I don't want to make things any harder for you guys. Of course, I will check my descriptions very carefully when I upload them the first time. But just incase I make a mistake again, I wondered if there was an easier way to fix it without causing you more work.
Right now the only thing that will keep you from having to resubmit for approval is to proofread. I have had to correct my uploads for all kinds of reasons, then had to resubmit, too! Then go in & reapprove. . . it's time consuming, but the end result is worth it!
I try to proof read my descriptions very carefully.....but somehow a couple mistakes slipped through. They were driving me crazy and I finally just fixed them. Then I felt bad when I saw they had to be approved again.
Yep - I don't know how you can keep your RAKs straight (and yes, I am snickering over here. You know my sense of "humor")! Uh, what was your name again?
No spewing here. Not today! It is FRIDAY, baby! I can't wait to bust this popsicle joint, make like a tree and leaf, etc, etc.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEee!!!!
(can you tell I'm excited?)
You guys have no idea how loud that WHEEEEE was, too. Good thing I'm all alone again. . .
Chai. Who woulda thunk that milk would be good in TEA? I mean, really! Everytime I read that people would "take milk" in their tea, I cringed. Here in Texas, it's on ice and it's so sugary-sweet it is like syrup. MILK?!? But oh yes. . . milk in Chai. Yummmmm. You *need* some, Cami!
Thanks for the great post and info. I found on my gallery the other day a cople card samples were doubled. I'm sorry for that mistake....my computer had the glitch and I didn't realize it until after it happened. I have tried to very good about loading my samples in the right gallery catagories and I appreciate it when you post this type of thread to help me keep it right.

Are you SURE it was tea? I mean, I have had chai before, but apparently you guys got some of that wacky Port Clemens chai
(and thanks to Debbi I can now answer your question vis a vis the areas of interest in Port Clemens aka the Mayberry of the North!)
