Hello!!!!! I am the guest host for today's technique lover's challenge. Posting alittle early since I am on the east coast.
The technique I wanted to try is Faux Cloisonne'. It has been a TLC challenge before. Here is the link to TLC48 I have just recently seen this technique for the first time. I have just finished my first ever Faux Cloisonne' card. The technique is very simple.....yet looks intricate.
You will need.....
Outline stamps
Magazine/calendar glossy pages
versamark or gold pigment ink
gold embossing powder
Crystal Effects is optional
Find a magazine picture or calendar photo that has a pretty image. I used a floral background because my image is a flower. I did a greenery garden for the leaves. This is not necessary. It can be any image you like. Then, stamp directly onto the magazine/calendar page. Gold emboss the image and cut out. At this point, you can add Crystal Effects to the image. I added it to mine, but I cannot really tell that much of a difference with it. Plus, CE makes the thin magazine pages want to curl up around the edges....or stick to my grid paper. It is very delicate paper and tears easily. Arrange your image(s) however you want onto your cardstock, adhere, and finish the card. Now, I was told that typically this technique is done using a dark background. But, I have always love the cream colored cloisonne' vases and jewelry. So...I did mine on a vv lumiere bg. I think it works.
I commented and favorited Japan(Heike's card...she pronounces her name Hi-Ka) a few weeks ago. Her card was the first I had ever seen of this technique. I loved it!!!!
Wow, Betty. Beautiful technique. Love your sample. All out of energy now after the VSN mini so will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm taking some magazines to bed though to find a picture.

Tried that....still very gray!!! Anybody else with a suggestion?!!!!
When I've done this it changes for you view once you've clicked on the link I think. Does that make sense? So say I create the link then I click on it... no mater what I change it to I view it as Gray. They are gray now for me because I clicked on them but there was color before I did that.

WoooHooooo I just got my Michael Strong stamps and HE did a demo on Carol Duvall of this technique-time to rock and roll (oh wait, that's a different technique.) I'll do it for real with a mag when I get home tomorrow.
Last week I did this using Faux Faux- I substituted polished stone that I had made instead of magazines! Mom's BD Card
Ooo, fun technique. I haven't done this in a long time. Thanks, Betty.
As far as colored links, when I changed from explorer to firefox, I experienced the same problem. Since I'm not very computer savvy, I figured it was something I couldn't fix, so I've learned to live with it.
Don't worry about the grey, Betty! I didn't even notice the difference til I read your post, and the gray works just fine!!! Great technique! Thanks for the inspiration!
What a neat challenge Betty! I've never even heard of this before....looks so pretty!
I didn't even notice the link colours....lol....I just looked for the bold...got my attention just fine!
ooh, I love this technique and haven't done it for years! Haven't done a challenge for months, either, it will feel GOOD to get back to my stamping table!
Lookin' really pretty! When you add the link, make sure you also highlight the colours in the brackets too. I have firefox and it works for me.
eg. Betty's card
Betty- What a fun challenge! I don't own gold embossing powder....do you think white would work?? If not, it gives me a good reason to hit the craft store tomorrow! :-)
Really glad this technique came back around! One of my very first challenges was for Faux Cloisenne - and that card is still my most viewed/commented on!
I'll have to try another one - and then visit everyone's creations.
both of the example cards are gorgeous! i don't have any gold to play with, but i do have some silver. i may try it out and see what happens. great challenge!
Can't wait to play! I'm off from school another day while they clean up all the snow we had!

Betty,
There are lots of examples in the gallery that I found. Take a look ladies, there are lots of things to do with this technique. Faux Cloisonne
Also, I had the problem of my words not coloring like I wanted. I attached my link first then picked the color for my words. This seemed to work for me. Hope it works for you Betty.

Oh, this technique has such a statisfying result! I have a Christmas card in my gallery using Sleigh Full of Toys that was inspired by uh, I'll have to go look, but a card that had been in my favs since 2006!
I can't wait to try it with something other than that sleigh . . . the cutting was cumbersome and I made about ten of those!

Wow, great card Betty, and thanks for the early post and thanks for stepping in! I haven't done this technique for a couple of years now...I think I did it with my old stamp club and it was a real hit! Looking forward to trying it again...but it will have to wait 'till tomorrow.
