Default Sizzix Machine

Does anyone here have a Sizzix machine and, if so, how do you like it? How many sheets of CS can you cut at a time? Just one? Can all the sizes fit into the same machine? I am contemplating getting one with my 40% off coupon. Really want some feedback. TIA!

I have a sizzix machine and really enjoy it. I would recommend that you try E-Bay. I got mine there and saved 50% and that was including shipping,!

I have one and it was a gift. It sat in the box for at least 6 months before I decided not to return it. I really like it for cutting tags. DD likes it for making paper dolls. I really can't see using most of the other dies enough to justify their cost.

I do two on a pretty regular basis. Three seems to be pushing it.

Any of the Sizzix dies will fit in the machine. The green (small) and yellow (medium) dies you only have to press the arm down once. The red (large) dies take 2-3 presses.

I guess it depends on what you think you might use it for whether it's worth it to you.

My DH went out at 5:30am last year - day after turkey day & used my 60% off & bought me one for $39.

I use it infrequently. I just got Sizzix's new catty in the mail today. Sign up for this on their site (sizzix.com).

It is great for (elementary) class projects that require pieces for each student - fast & no fuss. I've used up to three sheets of cs; after that the edges get fuzzy & not crisp.

I've used it for fabric (that has had fusible web already adhered) to fabric-piece designs to converted sweatshirts.

I would compare purchasing the dies (and the storage cases) to purchasing paper punches - they are expensive at first but when you need it they are worth every penny.

All the sizes (there are three that I know of) fit into the machine; the size will depend on how many times you have to move the arm. The large size has to have two cuts. Check out their site to see this in action.

You can also cut magnet sheets, felt, foam. If you have the coupon I say go for it; you can use each week's coupon to get yet another die cut at a discount...!

I love my Sizzix, but I use it for many kid projects. Yesterday I even dragged it to my pre-K religious ed class and had all the 4 year olds cut out the paper doll clothing. They enjoyed pushing the arm.

My kids use the large alphabets to make giant cards for their grandfather whose sight has deteriorated.

I have 1 complete upper and lower alphabet, bought the 13 seasonal small dies on special off the web site, and have been couponing about 1 per month of the other sizes over the last year. The tags and frames get a lot of use.

I can cut 1 layer of generic felt at a time.

There is an adaptor to use the smaller Sizzlets in the standard machine.

Advance press is that the next big trade show there will be lots of spiffy stuff which will compete with Quickkutz (sp?) and the other small diecutters that are favored by scrapbookers.

BTW, the plastic contraption they sell for die storage goes on sale for under $20 and holds 12 SU stamp pads.

The large dies are available with discount coupon through the big craft chain stores throughout the year. You can also get them off E-Bay for less than retail, although you really have to watch the shipping. I have faithfully kept all the original packaging, some day may recycle it all through E-Bay .

User tip-read the instructions, the most commonly asked questions always seem to be about the shim.

I received my Sizzix as a gift from my MIL and love it! I use it mostly for tags and frames...I don't use it all the time but am glad that I have it. I use it the most during the holidays for my gift giving. Go for it!

If you do any scrapbooking it's nice to have for the alphabets. I've bought a few at Michaels with the coupon. I think I've gotten most of my alphabets from ebay. Just pay attention to the price and watch the shipping. I know most of the alphabets go for around $150 with the shadowblock one being about $250 in the store.

Thanks for all the great (and quick!) input! I think my arm has been twisted and I am going to have to get it. My DH will just have to deal hee hee! I am pretty silly and didn't even realize that you could do frames (new to all this still) but that makes me want to get it even more now! It takes me so long to do them with my cutter and they aren't fancy shmancy! Thanks again for answering my questions. I am amazed out this site! Woo Hoo!

I just started working at Michaels so I had to learn to use the sizzix
machine and I thought is was very easy to use. I was cutting out pumpkins one at a time on cardstock till i figure out I could fold it twice and cut out 4 at a time. Also I had to do the tiny leaf one at a time and I thought that just took to much time. I did like trying the felt and material in it though, maybe I will buy one.

Julie :?
They also have two books out one is about making cards and the other one is using it for all sorts of things and I thought the books were nice.

Why not team up with a friend or three and share the machine? Its not something you are going to use all the time, and if you share it makes it that much more affordable?

I would really like to do this, but I am alone in my passion for stamps and scrappin'. None of my other friends are into this!! What a bummer, huh? Being a SAHM, I don't get out much either to meet new friends with like interests...that's why I am on here all of the time! Thx for the idea, though!

Sizzix is suppose to unveiling a new machine 9/28 at the Memory Trends show. You may want to wait for either the new machine or the prices to go down on the old one to make way for the new one. I know Michael's had the Sizzix dies on sale for 50% off last week, so maybe they are preparing for the new machine.

I use my tag dies the most but I also like to use the simple frame die with paper and fun foam to make shaker boxes with clean edges:

And you can use other dies for this, too:

stamps better. But I love having the employee discount at Michaels and I think teaching classes will be fun. My upline didnt think I could work at

I also just purchased a sizzix machine with my 50% off coupon and I LOVE IT

I made my daughter's first birthday thank you notes with it. I purchased an alphabet on ebay (less than 50% off retail with shipping) and the rest of the dies I am buying one at a time with 40% off coupons as I need them.

Very easy to use and all the dies (green (small), yellow (medium), and red(large)) fit and work in the machine. Also you can use all the sizzlits dies and sizzix embossing templates with the converter. I haven't used the converter yet but I'm looking forward to getting a chance soon.

I was undecided for along time about purchasing one but I'm really glad I finally did.

HTH,
Angie

Here's a pic of my daughter's thank you note.

JAMom -- very pretty thank you notes -- did you just use the inside of the frame and trim it down to show some white or did you use a different die for the rectangle?
TIA

Thanks ladies

Susan (mom2katjon) - I used the scallop frame and then cut the middle down so that it looked like it was supposed to be like that --- without cutting it down it looked like a mistake.
I would really have liked a die that cut a rectangle with a scalloped edge instead of a frame but I could find no such animal.
The daisy is SU but the old style.

Happy Stampin' (and Sizzixin')

i love my sizzix, but i have to admit i only have a few dies. the ones i do have i use almost constantly. i have the tag dies (2 combo tags and 1 jumbo tag), rectangular frame, photo corners, photoframe (with slots in the corners), squares, circles, and a really cute watermelon die cutter (also used for citrus!). after seeing that supercute sun shaker, i think i'll have to pick that one up pretty soon!

btw: if you decide to get the sizzlits alphabets (cheaper) you need to get an adapter. i think its about 15 bucks, but check on the sizzix website b/c sometimes they have a deal where you buy sizzlits and get a converter for free. or you could get them at M's for 40% off.

the new machine that is coming out is more portable. if you aren't going to a lot of crops with it, i would just stick with the regular one b/c you know it will go on sale as soon as that new one is out!

The Sizzix Sidekick is on the website now, but isn't for sale yet. It looks like a tiny Xyron and you crank the Sizzlits through it. It looks like it will be fun. Sizzlits only cut one sheet of cardstock, though.

The standard machine does 3 cardstock at once.
