2008 MICHIGAN Stamping Event - FULL
2008 Michigan SCS Get Together
****Ok I have been playing phone tag with the group coordinator at the hotel for over a week. I just called back again and finally found someone who could kind of help me. They put us in as scrapbooking so when you call to reserve your rooms please say you are with the "Scrapbooking Group". I tried to get her to change it, but she couldn't get it to go through.**** posted 11/14/07 2:26pm
****JUST GOT BACK FROM THE HOTEL AND THIS EVENT IS DEFINITELY FULL.**** posted 11/10/07 1:57 pm
****WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO CAPACITY. IF YOU HAVEN'T SENT YOUR REGISTRATION YET, PLEASE HOLD OFF UNTIL WE CAN ASSESS THE AVAILABILTY OF SPACE.**** posted 11/8/07 10:51 am
When: March 7th & 8th 2008
Where: Best Western Birch Run, MI
Why: Do you really need to ask why? Because it is fun!!!!
What: Stamping, Swapping, Technique Demonstrations, Games, Raffles, Prizes, Fun, Fun, and more Fun!!!!
Friday
4pm - Late: Challenge Cards, Free Stamping, Prize Drawings and Treasure Hunt
Saturday
9am - 12:00: Shoebox Swap*, Free Stamping, Prize Drawings and Treasure Hunt
12:00 - 1pm: Lunch (included with registration)
1pm - 6pm: Card Swap**, Demonstrations***, Free Stamping, Prize Drawings and Treasure Hunt
After 6pm: Go out to dinner with your new stamping pals. This would be a great time to venture over for a Frankenmuth Chicken Dinner. Afterwards come back and stamp until late, go for a swim, or head home.
*Shoebox Swap Prep for 15. This will be split into groups. This should be a relatively simple card/project. You will need to include a sample and everything needed to complete the card/project in a box (precut paper, stamps, ink, embellishments, tools). No need to include adhesive, everyone can use their own, UNLESS your project needs something special like a pop dot or super sticky tape. No Vendor Restrictions.
**Card Swap 52 Full cards. Minimum 2 layers and an embellishment. No Vendor Restrictions. Make it something you are proud of. Include your name on the back. Include a removable recipe. Suggested method - print out the recipe, cut it out and attach it to a sticky note. Then stick the sticky note inside the card.
***Demonstrations Still working out the details for this. But we are hoping to have some very special guests.
If you would like to donate unopened ribbon, brads, other little goodies, or handmade/hand stamped items for prizes please pm Patty (pattyb).
Who: You and your stamping buddies and whatever supplies you want to bring. Embellishments may be used on some challenge cards so bring a good variety.
How: Registration is limited to 50 people. The 1st 10 paid registrations will receive an extra special goody bag! So hurry up! Dont delay!!!
The cost for registration is $25 per person. Please fill out the attached registration form and mail it in to pattyb.
***REMOVED FORM SINCE WE ARE FULL***
We understand that some may have to cancel, but we cannot give refunds after 12/31/07.
We have a block of rooms reserved at the hotel at a special group rate of $99.99. Contact the Best Western Birch Run directly at (989) 624-9395 to book a room if you plan to stay over Friday and/or Saturday night. Please mention that you are with Scrapbooking - Lorien Clark when booking your room. This is enabling us to keep the registration costs down and is making for better prizes!

You are silly! You started it. I just wanted to start getting people redirected before anyone sends Debbie money for an event that was last year. ;)

I got my PM from Patty, and replied that I would love to help. Any of the 3 places would be fine with me. I also think March would be a great time to have it! I'll keep my eyes glued for more details!!

March is a good month. Most of the bad weather is done... but ya never know! LOL! Easter is in MArch next year... I think. I'd have to look that one up. I can't come the 7, 8, 9th weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not that weekend. ;)

I think this would be a blast !
Keeping my fingers crossed that it is on a week-end Jen can attend and that the weather will be kind that week-end too ( I'll pass this on to badmom too and the thought of riding with her on snowy roads is petrifying !!!! )

Easter is March 23. My school district moved spring break to mid-April, apart from Easter, this year because there is state testing for high school juniors the week following Easter. I'm guessing that many districts will have spring break the week before Easter or some time later... like in April.

WOW Jen you're on the ball - just noticed your siggy already!
I just looked, our spring break is in April.
So...I'm thinking that in order to avoid any major holidays March 14, 15, and 16 might be the best dates. Although those dates are also the Jazz festival in Frankenmuth, so I don't know what lodgings would be like there.
Here's a link to Frankenmuth for those of you who aren't familiar with it:
http://www.frankenmuth.org/
If you scroll to the bottom, there's a place where you can put your address and see how far you are from there.
To be honest I don't know much about the Lansing/Okemos area (and I'm a little intimidated about driving in those areas!)

I'm from Waterford. It's in mid-Oakland County, just west of Pontiac.

That's the weekend I was thinking, too.
Okemos is a nice community... far enough away from Lansing. East Lansing is between Lansing and Okemos. Frankenmuth sounds fun. I'm not familiar with the jazz festival and how crowded it might be.

Subscribing -- those locations are all really far from me (in the UP on Lake Superior at the base of that finger that juts out on the Western end), but I'll keep up on what is in the planning and see what I can do!

I am *so* there!
I think the reasoning behind Lansing/Okemos in the past, was the amount of stampers from the southern parts of MI.
Once we get a decent sized group we could always poll everyone? Or maybe it would come down to pricing locations in the two areas and seeing if Frankenmuth is more expensive than what Debbie had worked out with the hotel last year?
I am so glad to have this to look forward to!

This sounds great! I live in the Thumb, about 2 hours from Saginaw and Frankenmuth and 3 hours from Lansing/Okemos. Hopefully I can make it. I would love to meet all of you Michigan stampers.

Holy cats, where in the thumb are you? You're the first "thumb body" I've seen here;)

Oh Wow I am already behind!! LOL!! Patty I sent you a PM, but please put me on your planning committee!! This is great!! I also like the week end that Jen mentioned, but I'm not too sure about Frankenmuth when there is another event going on. This town is not that large overall and hotels may be more expensive with this in town. Just a thought. Now I'm off to copy Jen's announcement into my siggy too!!

I've been stamping for 8 or 9 yrs. and I have never been to a stamping event!! I belong to a monthly stamp club, but that's it. Would love to try to come, but the week end of March 7,8,9 would not work for me. I'm also in the thumb, Lapeer county, small town of Dryden. So tell me more about what goes on at these events. Are there classes? What do we need for supplies? Are there vendors there? Sorry I'm really clueless!! Help!

This is looking great- I will have to think about it if it is the weekend of March 14th as it is my birthday (but this could be my present- right?)
My kids are on break March 20th-
As for the Lansing Area/Okemos driving is no big deal- really, especially if you do Okemos and they have a wonderful hobby lobby and some cool sbing stores too!
