Default Shimmer Spray and Twinkling H20

I tried using a shimmer spray with hairspray and pearl ex. I didn't get the effect I was looking for. The pearl ex felt rough like sandpaper, and was not shiny. Also, I had some larger water spots from the spray not spraying evenly. Does anyone have tried and true recipies? I even used an old stampin mist bottle because I heard the mist was a finer spray. Perhaps my recipie wasn't quite right. Now my PE is separating from the HS.

What are the twimnkling h20? Is it a softer, shimmery-er look?

THX, Sarah

I mixed 2 tablespoons of hairspray (Sauve) with 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and 1/2 teaspoon Pearl Ex. Shake well. I loved the result! The PE tends to settle when not used and you just have to shake it up real good.

Default h20's

Twinkiling h20's are great!.. They are soft and produce a shinney effect..they come in hard cakes and you use a water pen to apply to cs.
If you add a different medium(instead of water) you can use them on wood, glass terra cotta, clay,fabric....I really like them and they last forver!

Rhonda,

What other medium would you add to the H20's?

Thanks, jg

There are mediums made by Angel Wings (1-800-400-3717) that you use instead of water..Rhonda

Default sparkly spray

I have a recipe for sparkly spray. you might want to try..

3 tsn water
3/4 tsp Liquid gum arabic
& 1/16th tsp powdered pigment (pearl ex)

Mix thoroughly - pour into fine mist spray bottle and spritz over artwork. Don't spray paper directly. Spray into the air and pull the cardstock through it...

Thx for the recipie, I will try it tomorrow. My shimmer spray worked a lot better after adding the alcohol. I think I may have to buy some twinkling h20's unless Paisley Princess figures out her recipie for home made ones!

That is really odd that it felt like sand paper. I just took mine out and checked them and they weren't rough at all. I have mixed up quite a few different colors of pearl ex. Wonder what the difference is? I only use hair spray for mine, as I find the extra alcohol made the pearl ex flake off. There are many examples in my gallery of the pearl ex sprayed paper. There is also a thread on here about making your own gold and silver and more papers!
I find I have to mix the pearl ex and hair spray really good every time I go to use it.

Yes, they were rough and the PE game off in my hands as I handled the paper. When I used the mixture with Alcolol, the color was softer, but more sparkly and definately smoother. It did not come off in my hands.
Now that I have this down, I am going to try to mix my own twinkling h20 using PE and gum arabic. We'll see how that turns out.

You can find Gum Arabic at most craft stores. It is a powder medium. Supposedly you can do all sorts fo things with it, I havn't made the time yet.
Mix one part gum and four parts pearl x and just a little bit of water and paint it on. I have heard that you can paint it on stamps and then stamp it. it is supposed to be wonderful and beautiful especially on flowers.

I thought that stamping with the PearlEx and hairspray mixture was such a good idea that I would give it a try. It worked GREAT!
You can't see the shimmer in this picture, but trust me. It's there!
Thanks for the wonderful tip!

Here's the outcome:

Default spray mixture

Have a question about the hairspray. There are different types of suave as to strength of holding. Does it matter if it's regular, extra hold??? Sorry if this sounds silly.

I really don't think it matters, but I just checked the three sample bottles of hairspray that I added PearlEx to and they are all maximum hold products.

How much pearl-ex to how much hairspray?

I bought everything I need, just haven't done the mixing yet.

Thanks!
