Default How long does it take you to make a card?

On AVERAGE I would like to know how long it takes you to make a card you are 100% thrilled with? I am just curious!

Depends I have made cards within 10 minutes that are absolutely fabulous and other's take me an hour. I think it depends on the mood or if i have something specific in mind. Normally i can make anywhere from 5 to a dozen in a day depending on how creative i feel.

On average I'd say 2 hours. Some are much quicker but most take me 1-2 hours and some even longer.

Let's see, today I spent almost two hours on one card.. Is that sad?? ;) Of course with all the kids coming in and out of the house askin q's and such-- it's a wonder I finished it at all. lol On the norm though, I can get about 4 to 5 done in an hour- unless the image has lots of detail.

on average...about 45 minutes.

I have made some that take an hour and a half and I have made some that take 5 minutes...but most fall right in between!

The ones I like best usually take 20-30 minutes. I try to remind myself it is just a card and more times than I'd like to think they might end up in someone's trash. Not everyone hoards and saves like me the pack rat. That is the main reason I don't like to spend more than 30 minutes on any card. Most of the time my ideas come easy. When they don't I usually get really frustrated with that card and the time it is taking. It usually doesn't turn out to be anything I like at that point.

Totally normal! I spend time testing colors & ribbons, designs, etc and generally hem & haw for a while before I glue anything down. Usually 1-2 hours. When do we get to see what you made??

I would say average time I spend on a new card design is 2 hours or so. Sometimes I will spend as much as 4 hours, which is totally insane!

With the normal 2 hour card, I usually have starts for several more cards when I'm done and maybe even a couple of variations of the original layout. I NEVER make just one card with no left-over parts and pieces. It's sort of like cooking and not planning for leftovers to enjoy the next day! ;) Some of my most creative cards have resulted from these cast-offs and that's a good enough reason to have them hanging about.

Do I count the first 1/2 hour cleaning off a spot to stamp and the next 1/2 hour looking for the paper and/or ink that was right there before I put it away and have no idea where!?!

Shannan, I think I have set myself up now! Everyone will expect something FAB after 2 1/2 hours and it is so very simple! I will post it on my blog tomorrow. I will say it AGAIN, though, I am so happy that I am not alone because I do the same thing as you do with all the different materials. It looks like a small bomb of glitter, buttons, ribbon, ink, thread, paper and cardstock went off in my little creative area.

Well, I would normally say 1-2 hours myself... but I made my first Gate fold card today and it took me almost 5 hours. I was messing with paper, embellies and everything esle and playing around the all my junk for ALONG time before I glued anything down and took a few breaks in between it was insane!!!

Generally it takes me 3-5 hours to complete a card from start to finish. Within that time several end up in the trash till I get my idea to work for me. It takes a while due to the die cutting and coloring the stamp involved, getting the inside sentiment worded just so also. This also includes making the envelope. Each one of my cards is unique and personalized for that person, never 2 the same. I don't keep a duplicate, don't see any point to that.

For me it depends - is my daughter home? Because if she is it's forever she wants to stamp, what am I doing, what's that paper, are these new?? So on and so forth. Love that she likes to scrap/stamp but I don't get much done. On average I would say an hour to hour and a half but if I'm not feeling inspired it takes forever!

I'm afraid that I am a very slow stamper - for two reasons... I have a very messy stamping room... I do a lot of colouring which is time consuming, I agonize over matching papers ( I don't use much SU stuff ) and I tend to cut out and pop up. If I didn't have such a mess to contend with ( and I've been working on that this evening ) well - about 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours ( or more. ) . But, if I am making multiples then it takes me much less time - as I have already decided on the colours, papers , layout etc and have my material on hand.

Are we crazy???? At least me.... and I love combing through magazines and stuff for ideas!

If it's my own original card it'll take about an hour - hour and a half maybe
but if it's a card I'm casing and someone else has put all the thought into it that about 20-30 mins.

Usually about 30 minutes, but I can also take longer (especially if I make a cute card with lot of coloring...)

Good question! Of course it depends on what is involved in making the card, but on average, if it involves coloring an image, that usually adds about an hour to the process, for me. So, since I use colored images in most of my cards, I spend anywhere from 2-3 hours per card. But, a lot of that time is probably due to my indecisiveness. ; )

If I have something specific in it doesn't take more than 15 minutes. If I'm in a very creative mood and have a theme but haven't chosen paper or stamps, it could take me a couple hours. Once I decide on something though, it doesn't take very long. I love challenges--like for a card swap with a theme. The little shop I swap at keeps one card to sell and gives the proceeds to a charity. And we all have fun looking at everyone else's cards. I love how much we each "evolve" in our "artistic" endeavors. Keep up the good work!

From 10 minutes to several days... it *really* depends on my mood, my inspiration and what materials I have on hand. Rarely does a card turn out like I originally intend. They just sort of *morph* into being! I start with a sketch much of the time... the finished card is often unrecognizable when compared to the sketch, but it's the sketch that gets me moving!

Wow... tough question. It depends on how well my imagination is working that day.

It usually goes like this though.....

Clean off the desk to make room for a very productive day (yeh right!).
Get a cup of coffee and put a movie in the DVD player (for background noise)

If there is no imagination flowing that day (usually the way things are), I go through blogs / galleries for inspiration.
I then get side-tracked and end up reading all the posts on SCS.

Go back for another cup of coffee.
Put another movie in the DVD player.
I finally find a card that inspires me, but I don't have the appropriate stamp set - so I start going through my stamps to find something suitable.

3 hours later I am actually finishing ONE, 1, UNO card.
Go back for another cup of coffee.
Put in another movie and start all over again.

This is how it usually works. Once I make a card I am happy with, I can make multiples in no time.

All I can say - is thank heaven for the gallery / blogs and some very talented ladies. That is where I get most of my inspiration.

Great thread! I thought I was the only one who could take 2 hours to make a card! On average, I'm around 1 -1 1/2 hrs. But I have made a card in 15 minutes and liked it just as much as a card that took me way longer.

I feel so much better after reading everyone elses times! It usually takes me anywhere from 1 - 4 hours for one card. My DH used to say "Wouldn't it be easier to just go buy one?", but he has learned not to ask that anymore, and just nods in approval now! It is really a challenge for me when I do VSN, because I am always just finishing when the timer goes off. It's good to know that I am almost 'normal', though!!!

It usually takes me 2-3 hours. I would love to participate in VSN but it would be difficult for me to finish my cards fast enough.
