So about half the time, the cards I assemble with monoadhesive end up coming apart unless I practically sit on it <like Lana >to really get a good stick. This pretty much always happens no matter how new the monoadhesive or where I got it. And this is just with flat pieces of cardstock to one another - nothing fancy. Does anyone else have this trouble?
I also have the same problem with the mono. I don't get it because everyone swears by it. I liked the old mono...The one that came in the white case. With the newer mono the cards come apart just like you say. With the old mono the CS would tear if you tried to take it apart.
And yes it IS the permanent one. I thought it was just me that felt that way, cause like I said...everyone I know swears by it.
I've been having a heck of a time with mono when I make accordian books....getting the decorated turned paper edge to stay down. Keeps popping up and popping the solid card stock on the accordian book cover.
Wow, I've not had that problem! In fact, I was making some cards & accidentally put a cardfront on upside down and didn't even press on it, and when I tried to get it off, it stuck like crazy!! It wasn't fluke, because I did it AGAIN with another card and that stuck right too. Found a new trick for removing the paper though - I got a piece of dental floss and "flossed" the two papers apart!
it's about 50 50 with me. What I found is that if you pull it apart right after taping it, it usually comes right off, but if it's been a day or so, it sticks.
Having said that, I'm having a HUGE problem because I've recently "discovered" pearl-ex and hairspray and love it, except that the paper curls and the mono adhesive won't hold the layers together- the paper that was sprayed ALWAYS curls away... (hope that made sense)
I too have this problem with mono! I have started using creative memories tape runner instead - it is fabulous! I love the convenience of the mono, but everything I have made with it falls apart. Last week I make velum sour cream containers - they were in a ziplock bag (to keep the humidity out) and today when I walked into my stamping room all the candy corn had fallen out where the mono had let go!
ya i have the problem50/50 too...but i use Easy stick by manco from walmart... but its the same thing as mono ...once day it will stick like cement...other times the stuff will fall off like theres nothin there... lol dunno what to say...oh well...still better then glue sticks *shudder*
I've had problems with mono also. I'm always worried that my swaps won't make it all in one piece. I bought some Duck brand double sided tape at Walmart yesterday, and I really like it. Decent price, great stick.
I tried to look to see where you all lived...I live in Nebraska and on humid days, the Mono isn't happening. I have to upgrade to something else. Then in the winter, when it's butt cold in my room, trouble again.
At convention, I had a hard time keeping my swaps together. The humidity just made them slide apart. Could this be the problem for you ladies?

I used to have that problem too, but then I switched to a fixatif instead of the hairspray. It works much better. The paper doesn't curl because you don't have to used as much. And it keeps the Pearl Ex from rubbing off much better.
I've never liked mono adhesive! I've used many different kinds, and none of them has worked well for me. :( (Besides, it's sooo expensive, and I'm very frugal. Okay, maybe I'm cheap! ) What I finally settled on is Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue. I just run a fine bead along the edge and run a little squiggle down the middle, press it down all around with my fingers, then weight it down for about a minute. That stuff won't let go! The only way I've been able to get things apart is to steam them and pull apart very carefully. Even then, it doesn't want to give!
When I do journals, etc., I tend to use my Xyron machine for the covers (just make sure it's the permanent stuff)
For attaching embellishments, nothing works as well as Crystal Effects. That stuff is awesome in its holding power!

I asked my sister the other day if the cards that I send to her fall apart in the mail because if I make a card with mono and let it sit here for a few days, it almost always comes apart. I really thought it was just me, so I'm glad to hear that there are others out there (well, glad for me, not for you!)
I have the same problem with mono...I've started using double sided tape and it works much better. I've been having problems with my Xyron sticking too...I stuck 2 tags together back to back and they are peeling apart...and both the mono and the Xyron are the permanent cartridges!
I usually burnish it real well and that helps a lot! When I layer onto the cardfront, I just turn the card over and rub the back real hard with my fingers- it helps it stay stuck. Maybe it would work to use a brayer to press over the back & save your fingers? Let us know if you try it!
I've had problems too, but do you know what I've noticed??? It depends on the cardstock. I don't mean glossy vs. US white but just our regular colored cardstock. For example, I was making a set sampler for All The Best. I was using Soft Subtles for one card and Rich Regals for another both with US Vanilla. I was using the same sheet of vanilla and the same roll of mono. Well, the Rich Regals one would not stay together. The only thing I could think of is that my SS cardstock was much older because I don't use those colors very often. I wonder if the new cardstock has a different finish or something that the mono doesn't like. I'd be curious to know if any others have experienced something similar?
Nothing beats Hermafix for me. I tried Mono & couldn't stand it - I must be mono-challenged. I love Hermafix transfer & they have permanent too. I buy in bulk from www.scrappindeals.com. The transfer is $3.60 per refill if you buy 5 or more & the permanent is like $3.70 (5 or more). I haven't found a better price on them; plus I love that site for Bazzill.

Don't think it's the humidity. Where I live we have very low humidity most of the year and it's still 50/50 with how well mono sticks. I also detest that half the tape sticks to the roll and gets wasted. I liked the old cartridges better because you could re-roll the tape and use the "wasted" stuff.
I too have all kinds of problems with Mono not sticking. It is very frustrating to put so much work into my cards and have them all fall apart. I do not trust Mono adhesive and therefore no longer use it.
Sounds frustrating! I notice a difference in warm temperatures.
Have you tried using the mono on both sides?
I read from an adhesive expert on this site that if you have mono on both pieces so mono sticks to mono, you will have much better results. Works for me.
I know for me it definitely depends on the humidity. Mono sticks fine for me unless we have some humid days...which have been more and more each year! :(
I love mono and use it most of the time, but when it is humid I use the terrifically tacky tape which is the same as the SU super sticky tape....I think that is what they call it. Nothing makes that stuff budge!

 Ahhh, that site is bad bad bad  Man, my DH is gonna breathe fire when he sees the CC statement!!

Thanks for all your posts on this! I'm glad to know it's not just me. It's embarassing to send cards that may be falling apart in front of people so, like Donna, I think I'm calling it quits on mono, too. I'll check into solutions some of you use. Any other ideas besides those listed above?
I've just noticed it with the last set that I bought from Viking - I'm really not impressed lately. I had a CM roller one that I used the other day and thought it was just great. No worries about it not staying with that. I think I'm going to have to permanently switch.
I have also had lots of trouble with mono sticking and I live in a very dry climate! I use Walmart's double sided red Duck tape, I buy 4 of them at a time for about $8.69. I haven't had this come apart yet, although I don't like the Duck packing tape at all (mostly because it tears all the time and I can't find the end of the roll!) It is a little more expensive than the Viking mono deals I hear about, but I only have to buy a few at a time and I can get them very quickly!
I TOO am wondering if it is the cardstock??? Remember, SU! has several cardstock manufacturers, so different papers could have something different about them! Just a thought!!

Oh, good, I thought my technique needed work! So glad it's not just me. If I'm really careful about using even pressure, I can usually keep the mono from staying on the roll. I've never had problems with cards coming apart, though.
Hmm...well, the humidity thing is a bust. Sorry, I thought maybe that was it. I had so much troble with swaps in Florida that I thought that was the sure answer (I came home with a shoebox full of cards I needed to reassemble). I still kinda like it. Hope you ladies find something YOU like.

Wow! I'm not the only one. Just in the last couple of days I've noticed that my mom just doesn't stick. I usually use the Creative Memories tape runner that's what I used before I became a demo. Now that I'm a demo I switched to the mono but it's just not sticking. I may just go back to the CM stuff on my own projects.
I didn't even realize I typed that! HA HA HA. I meant that my mono didn't stick.
My older son Luis who is 8 years old stuck stickers all over Manuel's face to see if he would notice there was anything on his face. And of course he did not.
What I find has the greatest effect on mono (as far as it coming apart) is tension and gravity.
Whenever you run fibers or ribbon beneath the cardstock you are adhering, the layers are under tension. If you've ever tried to pull mono apart after adhering, you may have learned that if you steadily pull you can usually get it to pop apart. That's what happens with the cardstock with ribbon beneath; the cardstock is trying to return to it's flat state and so it's pulling at the mono and eventually it pops apart.
Boxes are the worst, since there is more stress at the seams which makes the mono pop apart too.
Gravity has the same affect. If you display your cards, gravity is exerting pull on the adhesive and eventually your layers will fall off if they are heavy enough and you didn't use enough mono.
We were told with mono that "a little dab'll do ya!" but it's just not true in the above circumstances.
Got board listening to the DEBATE and had to check into SCS!
I HATE MONO. Being a SU! Demo I have used it in my workshops and all my customers Hated it TOO! I started using 3m double stick tape and everyone loves it...cheap too. But now that SU has SNAIL I will use the SNAIL again in my workshops.... not lookig forward to it ) =
I just hosted a swap and a few cards had fallen appart when I recieved them...they use MONO!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE HERMAFIX permanent transfer!!!!! I use it ALL the time on my personal projects!!!!!
Yup, I just picked up a steno tablet I had covered several days ago, lifted up the edge of a layer, and up it came with no problem. It just does not hold for me. I like the Scotch double sided tape. I wish they made it in a dispenser like mono.
I have never had a problem with mine. I use the purple one. Wonder what makes yours different and why you have so many problems. I apply mine on all edges of my cardstock..
