Default Unmounting Stamps from Wooden Blocks

I have been through most of the threads I can found about unmounting the stamps from the wood. They are all great and really helpful. I only have one question:

What if you don't have a microwave?

I don't use the microwave. I just yank the rubber off. Usually, it isn't that hard to separate the rubber from the foam. Sometimes, there a thin layer of the foam remains. I just rub that off with my thumb.

Do you know anyone one with a microwave? I think it is by FAR the easiest method.

I have been unmounting my sets over the last 2 weeks, I really have not found the microwave to make any difference. I just pull the rubber off, I think the way it comes off either clean, sticky or dry, has to do with the age of the stamp and mainly the process and products SU used when making the set. I do see quite a variety of foam, glue and even rubber since some of my sets go back to 1999.

Hi......I've been un-mounting my stamps for the past several weeks as I use them. This is what I've found.

Stampin' Up stamps seem to come off blocks very, very easy. Then just get the edge of my nail under a corner of the rubber part and gently peel the stamp off the foam. I've had no problem doing this.

My Paper Source stamps come off the foam very easy without removing the foam first.

Any stamps that I've purchased from AC Moore or Michaels give me mixed challenges. The ones that are real problems are the ones that are mounted on red foam (both foam and stamp are red). For what ever reason these are the only ones that I have to fight with. I'm winning, but it is a real struggle.

I've also realized that you do need to be a bit delicate with the rubber as you are peeling it off the foam. I did tear a small flower one, the stem came off.

I also found that 2 small pieces of sticky tabs applied to the clean rubber and then the rubber to the acrylic block holds very well. I don't seem to need to put the EZ Mount on the rubber first. Impression on my project is just fine. Till this method stops working for me, I intend to use the stamps without the foam mounting of any kind. Otherwise, I will use EZ Mount if/when I have a problem with the stamp or impression.

I think that each person will get different results. It's based upon the way they remove stamp or foam and how they use the stamp also the quality of impression they are looking for from the stamp. The paper and how deeply the stamp is cut will also make a difference in the quality of the impression. Some stamps may really need the foam for a good impression and some may not.

Each of us has to decide what we're looking for.

I never used the microwave either. I just pulled the rubb off the cushion if I could, or I pulled the cushion off the block and then plucked the cushion off.

Default Unmounting Stamps

Thanks for your help guys! I have just actually tried to remove a small stamp from the block from and it came away so easily. I was expecting all sorts of hassle.

Thanks again
