I am learning to alter books and I have done fairly normal stuff like paint cans and tins, but the strangest thing was I painted my old hiking boots- I couldn't bear to part with them 'cause they took me to so many cool places. Unfortunately I didn't seal them well and they eventually got moldy and I had to pitch them!
I don't remember all the details as to why, but my mom asked me to decorate a pair of my step-dad's tidy whitey's several years ago for a gag. I stamped all over them and we added lace trim, etc. Made them all pretty and such!
I covered a baby formula can and lid with the chocolate designer paper. Since it was always sitting around, I figured it should be pretty. When it was empty, I just dumped the formula from a new can into it!
As a child, we used to alter soup and vegtable cans all the time. My Mom still has one I made by gluing yarn around the can in assorted colours. She has pens in it. Not too long ago, ds #3 (6 yrs old) and I decorated a soup can for his new desk. We attached paper with sticky tape and used stickers to decorate the new pencil holder in his chosen theme.

Welll-----I did finally make progress in getting DH to pick up his clothes......Only took 12 years but he is getting very good at it------oh--maybe you meant something useful out of something else........well I think that still qualifies.......actually, dog food cans similar to the first post but used them because I liked the color inside them.;)

I can think of two kind of wierd things - a hot wheels car - my son had 2 green vw bugs, so I altered one of them. I put gems on as hubcaps and stamped the hood and the top.
The other thing was a water bottle, I've done lots of these for my kids' friends and they love them. I usually fill them with things from target's $ spot.
not very weird...but my strangest thing is a pringles can.
(I just posted this in another thread too, lol)
they are perfect for pens, pencils, paintbrushes and other long skinny things, they come with a lid, they are in abundance n my house, and are perfect for taking to crops without having to worry about losing your stuff.
