Lisa Bearnson was showing off the Coluzzle (I'm a HUGE Coluzzle fan and am collecting many of their templates), AND, she used it to cut Large ALPHA LETTERS (using Coluzzle alpha template, of course) OUT OF POLYSHRINK!!!! Then she shrank them to make alpha charms for her scrapbook pages!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had always thought one needed a DIE CUTTER to do this on polyshrink; I very nearly bought a Sizzix machine the other day with my 50% off Michael's Coupon! (And, contemplated that once I had it, how much I'd have to spend to get all the dies I would want--a shuddering thought--as I slowly backed away from the Sizzix.....)
Now, I can just purchase a far less expensive Coluzzle Alphabet Template in my choice and do this taking far less space in my studio!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Coluzzle!!!!!!! Do I sound jazzed about this latest idea or what?????!!!!!!!!!!
I know, I know--ya'all probably already knew about using Coluzzle with polyshrink, but it was a moment for this old gal!

I have a large collection of Coluzzle templates and although I like them, I have a problem with nicking the plastic so that my blade gets stuck in the plastic each time. Since you are a huge fan can you tell me if you have this problem?
we have a huge craft store here called crafts direct and they have lots of coluzzle templates and I know our local sb store has some too... I have really been eyeing the box ones...
So, Julie, you cut out your letters & they shrink up & are still legible? I JUST got back from Michael's today & the one thing I bought, & it was the first time I'd EVER seen them, or even thought about them, was an alphabet template! I got it 40 % off & thought it would be so much easier than running up to Ben Franklins & die-cutting letters, since my work is done after babes are in bed. How big does the alphabet have to be, to still see it when it shrinks? Mine looks too small, but it's the biggest I could find - actually, only size available.

I haven't had this problem, however, I've heard that it happens to folks who haven't removed the protective film that is on both sides of the template?
I also heard a tip from one gal who runs something thru all the channels prior to initial use to catch the "snags" in the template which might potentially catch the blade. I just can't think of what it was--maybe it was a dull coluzzle blade .... or some other dulled cutting blade (exacto knife???) just to shave off any snags ?

I haven't bought an alphabet template YET (gotta order one of those as I live in remote area and can't hit Michael's whenever the mood strikes me ...sigh ...)
BUT, Lisa (on TV/QVC) used the latest Coluzzle alpha template "Hawaiian Hut" Upper Case to make her alpha charms! Just blew me away!
Also, EZ Cut templates by Accucut also work with the same swivel knife system and I'm pretty sure they also have alpha templates as well.
Keep in mind that anything created in polyshrink will reduce to 60% of it's original size. Yes, Lisa's polyshrink alpha letters were legible!

What a terrific idea! I just saw some alpha coluzzles last week ..... and left them hanging there!!
(Julie, we know you're going to totally WOW us just as soon as you get your little hands on these! )

Missed this one! Sorry! No, polyshrink cannot be shrunk by nukin' it in the microwave.
You need a heat tool OR, I would suggest baking them in an oven or toaster oven (BTW, I haven't heard of any problems with baking polyshrink in your home oven, but I'd avoid baking polymer clay or numerous other medias that emit fumes in your home/kitchen oven).
I prefer my heat tool; I hate to get off the rubber throne, to march out of the royal vault, to go turn on the oven and then sit and watch 'em ...

Coluzzle is a MUST!
I own many, many Coluzzle templates and they are just wonderful!! I am way too lazy to cut things out by hand, so if there is not a Coluzzle template or a punch for it, forget it!
I had the templates for two years and never a nick - then I started teaching a class at the LSS and my templates & the stores' started getting destroyed! People push the knife and way too hard! You only need to glide it around the channels and you must hold it straight up and down, not like a pencil. When you get to a corner, go slowly and if it is having a hard time going around, twirl the handle of the knife and that usually helps get around the corner. I avoid buying templates with sharp corners (some of the Accu-Cut EZ to Cut templates are like that). They are very difficult to cut, even with lightweight paper!
Now, my super dream is that Stampin' Up! will design a line of stamps that have *matching* Coluzzle templates!!! So, you could stamp the image and then cut it out, effortlessly! Hey, I can dream, right?
I, too, love the Coluzzle, but I recently purchased the tag template and have the worst time ever with it! It kept snagging in the corners and it is now really chewed up. I tried filing down the snags but it just got worse. I am very disappointed in this template. Despite that, I still love my Coluzzle!
