I only have the little fiskars cutter and want to buy something a little more heavy duty....should i go with rotary....and any ideas of a good model or brand to buy? thx....lisa
I have the Fiskars rotary cutter and I love it. Of course I do not have a small cutter and need to purchase one of those to tote around with me. I told my husband I needed a cutter and one day he came home from the store with the big one. I did not have the heart to tell him that I wanted a much smaller version. But anyways I like it and you can cut more than one piece of paper at a time.

I have a large X-acto rotary cutter from Staples. It's too big to take to workshops and takes up a lot of table space. It costs about $8-10 Can. to replace the blade, and it's $13-15 to replace the rubber strip the blade cuts into. I have had to replace the strip 3 times already this year and I don't use this cutter as my main cutter. I always grab my fiskars triple track cutter now. I love it. I had the grey and orange trimmer and it was so wobbly and cut crooked so i got it replaced and then with a nasty Michaels coupon I bought the triple track. The blades are cheaper and I can use a scorer with it easily. With the rotary you have to change the large blade to put a scoring blade in, too much work for me.

I have lots of cutters, use them all, but rely heavily on my Carl cutter when I have to do lots of sheets of cs, or need to be particularly accurate. I just got a Carl Cutter! I LOVE IT! If you are a SU! demo Mike will give you a REALLY good discount! I had heard about them, and that they were worth the big price tag, but I had never heard just how good a discount we demos could get :o) So when I was at a Rubber Stamp Expo in San Diego last weekend I got to see a demo and was sold on it. 15 pieces of SU! cs at one time! Can you believe it?!? Geting ready for workshops will be so much easier and quicker now...not to mention swaps and Christmas cards....YIPEE...can you tell I'm excited :o) I had just relaced my old fiskars (like the one in the catty) with the smaller (purple) rotary one that they have and I like it alot. It has a mat the is replaceable and you can also get a scoring blade with for it too. I was going to return it, but I decided I still need a small cutter to take to crops and get togethers and stuff, but I do LOVE my new Carl trimmer! Anywho...just my 2 cents

I have the Fiskars Rotary cutter from Michaels. I love it! It cuts so even! I noticed after I bought that one that Sam's Club has a similar one by Fiskars and it looks like it might be more portable (it has a handle and not as bulky, but still rotary).
In regards to the Carl cutter which one is the one to get. I can't imagine cutting more than 1 pieces of cardstock at the same time - how great. Personally I having problems with my brand new Fiskar from the catalog . I cannot score a half sheet of paper to make a card & have the edges line up - 1/8 inch off almost all the time!! I don't know what I'm doing wrong!!!

Which model # of Carl will accomplish the above? That would be so worth it and then I'd get rid of my Fiskars Rotary, which I love, but can't cut thru 15 pieces of c/s at one time .... :shock:

I have the Carl DC238. I have not cut more than 8 sheets of CS at a time, but that is way better than my Fiskars rotary, where trying 2 sheets meant one got chewed up. The fiskars now makes a lovely scorer. I love the Carl.
I have the Heavy Duty 18" so I can cut 12x12 on the diagonal. I love it and have had it for almost a year, never needing to change to blade (but I don't have lots of workshops anymore - I just use for swaps).
I got 50% off because I was a demo! Everafterarts.com has always done well by me!

I too have the Carl Cutter and wouldn't trade it for anything. It is so fast and easy when I'm getting ready for a workshop!
However, there are two things that I rely on my new SU! Fiskar's trimmer for.
1. Scoring. The Carl Cutter has an optional scoring blade, but you need to have a screwdriver and a lot of patience if you want to change your blade.
2. Cutting small pieces of cardstock. I have a hard time (think it's impossible) cutting pieces smaller than 2" on the Carl.
I have 3 carl cutters My large one is the DC210 it is 12" but for me that is big enough. I love that I can cut 15 plus sheets of cardstock at a time with this. I also have 2 of PRT 100 This is a 12" personal trimmer and has the swing out arm for measurements like the fiskers one. The blades are a pain to change at times so that is why I have 2, one for cuttting and one for scoring. I can use this one for small measurements, 2" or less because it has a small guide on the right side of the blade too. And I didn't worry about the cost of having two because even if I wasn't a demo who got 1/2 price they are always on sale for $19.99. Just check it out at www.everafterarts.com
HAHAHA - Sue, we're in the same boat. I have not cut on the diagonal once. Given that it was a little more expensive to obtain the larger one, I rationalize its purchase by using the extra few inches at the top to store scraps I haven't had time to file yet. :oops:
So, unless you potential Carl Cutter owners have already found you NEED to cut 12x12 cardstock on the diagonal, you can easily purchase the 15" heavy duty and be very pleased with it.

I have a table top big Fiskars orange and grey with a rotary blade in it I love it, I can cut about 4 sheets at a time, it was only like 35 at my local craft store and if you can sue your cupon you are even better off. but I have to agree with the Carl Cutter girl, I have seen it used and I am WOW, I just cant justify the cost right now until I get up and going!
