Stampin up Wheels

Ladies... I have been noticeing such wonderful work utilizing the wheels from stampinup. So here is my question, does everyone have lots of colors of cartridges, or is it best to get one with versamark so that you can use it with just about anything. I love the softer look, versus black or brown.

I have the cartridges in a bunch of colors, but whatever I don't have, I just roll the wheel on the ink pad. Works for about 5 1/2 inches.

I have many different cartridges for the regular sized stampin' rounds but missed out on the now-discontinued cartridges for the jumbo stampin' rounds. I still don't understand why they discontinued them....

But I use an ink pad for those colors for which I don't have cartridges.

I only have a few cartridges and I use my ink pads most of the time. They work great for cards (4 1/4 x 5 1/2), it would be harder to do on a scrapbook page.

I use my ink pads for cards and versa for larger 12x12 projects. I miss the multi cell carts! PLEASE BRING THEM BACK SU!

I unmounted mine so I can use them with whatever color stamp pad I have. I put them on ez mout and use them with an acrylis block.

I also unmounted mine and love it! I actually have more wheels on my next order than I do stamp sets. They are easy to use with any color that way!

Why do you need to unmount them to use them in any color? I just roll my wheel in the ink pad...

I UM my only lonely wheel after reading about it on this board. I have serious space issues and have a lot (ahem - waaaaay too many UM stamps!). I didn't want to invest in the handle either. I had never read about rolling them across a pad at that time. I had read posts about folks having a hard time getting their lines straight with the wheels, so I just took the rubber off. Very simple and easy to use.

That's why I unmounted them. I could never get the lines straight or I didn't put enough pressure on one side and the image wouldn't come completely out. Wasted lots of cardstock. Unmounting is great!

I don't need to unmount mine to be able to use any color. I don't have any cartridges I just use my ink pads. I'm dying to get the wheel guide so that I can get my lines straight. haha.

that's why many of us unmount them. they are an awesome bargain. A nice big unmounted stamp and I just plop it on an acrylic block without even a cushion. I keep meaning to put them on ez foam but haven't gotten around to it yet. It is easy to get them to line up when off the roller.

I recently bought the roller guides sold by "The Card Ladies". They're a lot easier to use than SU! wheel guides.

Sorry if this is a dumb questions - but what is the length of the wheel once it's unmounted? Is it more than 5.5"? Can you stamp the length of a card once? Thanks in advance!

They are a smidgie under 7" unmounted. I found alot of mine needed extra trimming. Before I unmounted I was forever gettting lines from the edge of the rubber, also one of my wheels didn't line up properly so there was a gap between the images which was mighty annoying!

I unmounted one of mine, and love it! I like that I can colour in certain portions with markers, or just ink certain areas. Now, I want to order all of them! I did find it was easier to use the wheels with the cartridge - I found that I got more even coverage (but might have just been the user! )

I have (and love) quite a few of the cartridges, but at workshops and stamp-a-stacks I usually have folks use the pads because the cartridges can dry out.

What I tell people: If you PUSH the ink on, then PULL the ink off. This might not make sense at first, but think about it for a minute. I have them roll-and-lift the wheels across the pad in the same direction, about 30 times if the wheel has NO ink yet and about 12 times if it has already been inked at least once. Then they need to go in the opposite direction across their paper.

Don't know why, but I always get a better image this way ~ HTH!

I have a versamark cartrige and just use my ink pads when I use my wheels I hardly ever do because I never can get a strait line and I HATE the handles!
I've been thinking of unmounting them but just haven't had time so they just sit in a basket on my shelf.

I pick apart the seam with my finger nail and then slowly pull it off the roller. Any adhesive stuck to the rubber just balls up and comes off if you rub it. If you are worried about your manicure you can just slice the seam with an exacto knife. I mount it on ez mount and then trim all the excess rubber off. You don't need to mount it, you can just put double sided sticky tape on the acrylic block and stick your stamp on it. HTH

this is a splendid Idea! I bought a wheel ages ago and just was never happy with the performance, and as a result put it away to collect dust. but now I have renewed enthusiasm.....

If you find this also works for you, it should help move things along a bit faster -- I know that inking wheels without using a cartridge can be time consuming when you're doing a bunch of cards at once!

I am a wheel addict...I have all of the small cartridges and I am slowly collecting the jumbo cartrigdes. I almost had a panic attack when they retired a bunch of jumbo colors last year. You can always buy uninked catridges and then ink them with whatever color you need as you go...I like to do a lot of packages, bags and stuff so unmounting my wheels was not an option for me. I like the continuous coverage from the ink cart. I also love to wheel a matching envelope: if you wheel the back of an envelope but the flap, then stamp a co-ordinating image on the blank flap it lookS really professional! Clear as mud?

I actually sold/traded all my cartridges and I only use my ink pads, that way I know I have all the colors.

I bought uninked cartridges from clearsnap and just inked them with my re-inkers. They are WAY cheaper that way. As I want/need a colour, I just ink it up.

I share my wheels with my mom, and she doesn't care for UM.

I use the wheel guide which works great when doing wrapping paper or gift bags. I don't think unmounted wheels would work for that. I use cartridges or ink pads, whichever I have.

If I'm feeling really particular about where the unmounted wheel has to go, I use my stamp a ma jig. Perfect placement every time!

The first few times that I used the wheels I just couldn't get a straight line. I bought the guide and that did help a lot. I think the more I used it the more comfortable I became. Now I very seldom use the guide and have had really good results. I have cartridges but will use an inkpad if I need a certain color or combo. Don't forget the pigment inks give a nice image. The Paintbox is made to work with the wheels. Start at one end and roll to the other using the guides on each end. If you reverse you will be going over the same colors. I learned that from the Clearsnap DVD.
