to each his own...
it doesn't bother me for people to know when i am on or not.
anyone who knows me knows i am addicted to this site and if i have time... i am on... even when i don't really have time i am on. like right now, i really should get going.
so bye!
you know i'll be back later and you will know i am here!
I always stay visible. When I used to work for a company where I sat at a desk with my computer all day, I would go into invisible mode...b/c if IT decided to spy on me...they could see I was USING the site, but wouldn't necessarily be able to know if I was posting or whatever.
And when I got fired from that job (not for any internet surfing reasons) I contacted the site owners of some of the boards I used to visit on a regular basis & asked them to ban the IP I was using from my work computer...I was all paranoid about them getting on & seeing if I was bad mouthing them (which I didn't do).

I cruise invisibly -- have for about 18 months or so. There are a few folks that once they see that I'm "on" at a particular time, my mail starts pinging me. Since I RTPE several months ago, I now only have a few moments here and there to log on...and nothing against my friends, but if I'm here for inspiration, I don't want to waste my time "chit-chatting". Today I happen to have more time than usual, but I stay invisible because it's easier. ~ k

Very interesting... I guess I didn't really pay attention to this feature. I'm pretty sure I am visible, though.

I'm guessing that people are invisible when they are surfing from work... which I only ever do during lunch. And that's rare. I personally find it very wrong to be using company time on SCS. I'm also guessing that some of the popular people do it to avoid a high number of unnecessary PMs... just a guess. I'm visible.... anyone can tell that I'm on here waaayyyy too much.
I don't surf from work, because I don't work. I am invisible for reason of had been on one of the threads and it got really nasty towards a friend of mine and myself. Now they stalk us when we are on. Yep, I did one nasty to one of the girls but it wasn't on SCS. Shame on me. That's why I'm invisible then they don't know when I'm on so they can find out what I'm doing or reading.
Npoe didn't report it either....too many against a couple of us. We just chose not to go there. AND at times we still get stuff rubbed in our noses and we aren't even chatting there, but we can read it. One gal does it everyday!
And I'm sure they will read this. Maybe they will watch what they say.
So yes, I voted invisable. AND PROUD of it.

I haven't been invisible on this sight but I have used it on others - mainly because I have been asked to read something they were concerned about and offer them a bit of advice - if you are invisible people can't track what posts you are actually reading - they can see someone invisible is reading though LOL.
I can understand the advantage of being invisible to admin of this site or people with loads and loads of friends on this site... sometimes you can have too much of a good thing and just want to lie low for a while.
You don't have an option for me - I do both. I went invisible for awhile - mainly because I go through spurts where I'm on SCS several times a day and am embarrassed how often I'm here. I recently went visable for a silly reason - I noticed I was a couple posts short of 3,000 and wanted to see if I could graduate from Pear-Ex Pert to something else. About 18 posts later I realized that posts aren't tracked if you're invisible so I went visible so I could graduate to Die Cut Diva, lol!
Is it true that people can actually track what post I'm reading? That's kinda weird - so if it's true, I may 'disappear' again. I've nothing to hide, but because of a creepy experience with another website years ago when I first got on the computer, I learned to be cautious. I only added my signature last month and I keep Barbie's face pasted over my own. Can a person really 'stalk' and find out what another person is reading or doing here?

I wasn't aware of this!

I voted for none of your business... not because that is true, but because I really don't know!! I thought I might have switched it to invisible once, but now I can't remember and I can't remember where to go to find out!!!
If I had changed it at some point, it would have only been because I saw the option and was playing around with it. Not for any good reason.

Yup, if you click on the poster's nickname and go to their profile, if they are on, it will show "Viewing thread ...." on the right side of their profile. Doesn't really bother me though, I have nothing to hide! LOL

If you aren't invisible, then people can look at your profile and see where you are on the site including what you are viewing in the gallery.
Your posts do count whether you are invisible or not. I've been invisible for at least a couple of years, and my post count continues to go up.
I think there are a lot of reasons that people are invisible, all of which you have mentioned already. I stay on invisible because when I'm here, I need to get stuff done and don't have time to chat or want people to know what I'm working on! ;) Or I just want to surf w/out "working."
To the poster who has been harrassed by other members on this site, please report this to a moderator with direction to specific posts. This is completely against the Terms of Service. Thanks for the explanation - I'd never noticed that you can see what someone is viewing - I think tracking someone is kind of strange. Also, sorry for the misinformation, I'd just assumed the posts (I'm including gallery comments as posts) weren't being tracked because once I went visible again, the numbers went up again, so I don't know what was up there, thanks for the correction.
For those wondering how to check on your mode, you're probably visible because to go to invisible mode, go to your account, then control panel, settings & options and edit options. The mode will then pop up for you to select.
I would never go invisible because I don't care who knows I'm online. It would never occur to me to look and see if somebody else is on and think about how often I've seen them on. That's just the way I am.
I live in a small town and everybody knows me and my business and I don't know anybody. I just don't care and it bothers me that other people do.
I voted 'None of your dang business' just cause it's too cute! LOL
I'm invisible. Have been off and on for the last few years. No particular reason other than it kinda creeps me out for people to be able to look at my profile and see what I'm doing any time they feel like it.
That's my whole reason....But then again, I have issues! LOL :-D
Like Christine, I've been using "invisible" mode for quite some time. I often leave my computer on SCS all day long, and didn't want it to look like I spent my whole day here, LOL! I also had a really bad experience on a popular chat thread that led me to stop posting there (nearly left SCS for good, but another member of the chat convinced me to come back after about a month) and I didn't feel like having the nasties from that thread be able to see where I was browsing.
But you see me every 4th Monday, Jimmi, so I guess it doesn't matter! ;)
