Question Ugly cards....

I am curious as to what you guys do with cards that you think turn out "ugly" but can't bare to just throw them away. Do you give them to your in-laws? ;) I would love to hear what you guys do with all those less than perfect cards.

PS-

Anyone who wants an ugly card, PM me your address :p

I save them, but I don't give them by choice.

The other day, though, my younger daughter wanted a card for a last-minute birthday party invitation. I haven't had time to stamp for awhile, so I had nothing really good on hand that was good for a preteen/teen.

DD picked one of my "ugly" cards and came home saying that everyone else loved it.

I think we are too hard on ourselves for "ugly" perhaps!

I try to salvage what I can for future use and toss the rest. I hate to do it, but I'm too type A. I can't give something I don't like.

This goes for my own creation or swaps:

If it's a quality issue, they go in the trash. If it's just "not my style", they go in a container and are given to friends for inspriration or for use. I don't have a problem parting with ugly cards, but I would never send them to anyone!

Turn it over and use the back side as a layer for a 'pretty' card.

I was cleaning my stamp room today and finally threw out some "Ugly" cards I have been holding onto.* Did keep some parts to reuse.

my "ugly" ones are mostly from my beginner days of stamping & making cards. I keep almost all of them in a box - it's fun to look back every now and then to remember where I started, and how far I've come! Although...I must admit, I keep them hidden from the cards I'm proud of, in case anyone looks through my stash, they won't see the ugly ones. hehe

Slice and dice em...sometimes those bits and parts and pieces are perfect embellishments on a beautiful card.

There's really no such thing as an 'ugly' card...there are only cards that haven't quite realized their glory...

I have an elderly aunt who asked me if we were doing OK since I couldn't afford to buy cards. I send her the worst ones. Actually I have a friend who will take anything free and I give most of them to her...but I do save some for my aunt.

Little does your aunt know how much the supplies cost, right? Most of the cards make are given to others to use themselves. I give sets of 10 cards (various occasions) to all the women in my family...they don't coordinate at all as they're made over time, but even the 'ugly' ones are appreciated...I think.

Default ugly cards

you could donate your cards to some agency for ill children; I'm sure
your cards are not that "ugly".

I have never made an ugly card! LOL No, I am not vain. Sometimes I have in my mind how a card is going to turn out and as I am laying it out I realize it just doesn't look good like I thought it would. So I change something on it before I get it all taped or glued together. Occasionally I have tossed everything and just start all over again with a completely new idea.

I wait until I have someone who is having a really bad day and then I send it to them. I tell them that I was thinking about them and the bad day they were having. I figured a bad day needed a bad card to make it better. Generally, it gets a laugh and a call or email to say thanks for making it better. This is one of those ugly cards that at least gave someone a laugh Christmas card gone wrong by kmccullo at Splitcoaststampers

I am the exact same way!!! My "ugly" box is hidden in them bottom of my hutch. I did recently pull it out and looked through it and I could not believe some of the cards I made in my beginer days. There are a few that are just plain YUCK!!!!
This does remind me of a funny story though. Last year we were going to my in-laws for my FIL birthday dinner. The entire family was there. 2 of my SIL are also stampers. I made a really nice birthday card for DH's dad. I set it on the table. I was cleaning my dining room at the time and had that box of "ugly" cards sitting out as well. DH went into that box and grabbed a HORRIBLE looking card. When my FIL opened it MY mouth dropped and I looked at Greg and asked him what did he do with the card I made. He thought I meant one from the box. I was so embarressed. I did however tell everyone that DH grabbed the wrong card. I did not want everyone to think I am still a horrible cardmaker!!!

That is great, I will have to remember to send my "ugly cards to someone that is having a bad day. As a matter of fact I have what must be an "ugly" card now because I was told "It's not much of a card" before she found out I made it. Guess who gets that card when she is having a bad day...

I think we should do an "ugly" swap. I have a few cards that would certainly fit the bill!

Seriously, it might be fun. Anyone game?

The other day I came across the first couple swap cards that I ever made. Ohhhh, boy. They were winners. This was before I even knew about SCS!

At the time, I was pretty sure that nobody ever made such cute cards! I was so proud! I'll never get rid of those, they're hilarious.

There was a hilarious thread here about 2 years ago where we had an informal ugly card contest. I believe the title was 'post your ugly card here' or 'my card is uglier than yours' or something like that. I'll go look for it.

Default ~Swappin' Ugly~

Let's PIF our ugly cards away!

Next person to PM gets a generous supply of my "uglies"!

Then that person PIF's the next person, and on and on it goes, until we're all PIF'd out, so to speak!

Be careful what you ask for, though, mine are so so bad!

This could be fun!

Coletta

PS...this makes me snicker because at our house, when someone "farts" we call if "piffing".......I know I know TMI :-}

All my cards are ugly but I send them anyway, cuz they are made with love and great intentions...but I am making a craft room out of my new spare bedroom (son married and moved out) and then when I am not sitting in a chair lower than my table to work, I have hopes my folds and cuts will be straighter, even if my cards are still ugly...
I have even thought of adding "queen of ugly cards" to my siggy line!!

Saturday I was flipping through some of my cards and found one that isn't just ugly - it's completely hideous. I don't know WTH I was thinking when I made it. Anway, my 10yo DD comes along and says, "Oh, I love that!" I think she must have been out of her mind or something, but I let her keep it to use later.

Usually I try to save ribbon or hardware, but I don't have a problem throwing anything that ugly away!

I do have some from my early stamping days that would probably qualify. When I make cards, I always keep one for myself so I can go back later and see what I did - not having to guess how it looked. Anyway, I can think of a couple that are ugly!

Honestly? I throw away the uglies. When I share my cards I want them to be ones I'm proud of.

I love reading all your ugly cards stories, makes me feel so much better, but I guess it's true of all of us. I have stacks of ugly cards and when we made our big move this past summer and I was packing the only reason I didn't throw them away was to recycle them. I said, I will rip the fronts off and make new fronts using the good card stock they are on. Knowing how much everything cost's its hard just to toss them. Even my 8 yo DD says: Mom this card is ugly what were you thinking?

Guess it depends on what ugly is. Some of my ugly cards I send to those that could care less. Other ugly cards (if SU) go in my extra bag that i let my customers go through and take! lol (of course i don't admit to that the ugly ones are mine!!) I'm not even sure where the first cards I ever made are.. now those were Ugly!!!
