Really needing suggestions.... and soon!

I was asked to consider making a personalized guest book for my father-in-law's funeral. Has anyone ever done a guest book? I imagine it means mostly designing the cover. Any suggestions on this? I would also like to know the source of any place to order a book like this or a type of album to use. All help is greatly appreciated!

I am drawing a blank on how to make it personal and classy.

I attended a wedding last year where there was a journal to write in. The idea was to have blank pages (no lines) so people could write personal notes about or to the couple; there were nice images stamped on each page corner.

Maybe for a funeral you could do something similar, with tasteful images on blank pages, that might encourage attenders to write something personal. You might want it set up on a nice table at a different time than the service, for the sake of time. I would scrapbook a cover with FIL name and dates, maybe.

Just some ideas, I hope you can take something away from it.

Well, I made a book similar to what Cardmaker2 described for my FIL's memorial service. I have a bind-it-all, so was able to actually make the book from cover-to-cover. I had blank pages, with a picture or a stamped image of things associated with my FIL (e.g. picture with friends, stamp of a hummingbird, picture of children/grandchildren). The cover was chipboard that I covered in paper that I used for the invitations to the service.
