Waxed Paper

Hi people, I'm new here and a keep stamper and scrapbooker. I have seen some projects that I would like to try but I can't find waxed paper. I live in Australia, anyone know where I could get some? I have tried as many local craft and art shops, also the local supermarkets. Is it also known as greaseproof paper?

What are you wanting to do with it? Greaseproof paper isn't waxy at all. You can get a waxed paper called Reynolds freezer paper. I got mine from Coles a few years ago. You could also try a quilting/sewing shop cos it's used for applique.

Thanks, I'll try Coles, I had a look in Woolies but they didn't have it. I'm hoping to try putting images on candles. There was a tutorial on the website here somewhere about how to do it, and you need waxed paper to seal the image to the candle. It's also mentioned in a few other projects that I would like to try in the future. I'll see what I can find.

When I do candles I stamp onto tissue paper, wrap around the candle and then give it a quick blast with the heat gun (watch your fingers!). After doing 50 odd for a wedding I'm not in a hurry to do any more for a while

Ishould be in any supermarket it is with the greaseproof, gladwrap and baking papers. In the olden days my Mum always had a roll of wax paper and greaseproof in the kitchen drawer. LOL

Waxed paper and freezer paper are two different things to me.

I use the Reynolds freezer paper to let the kids fingerpaint. It is cheaper and better than fingerpaint paper....LOL

If you still cannot find waxed paper I will get you some and ship it to you COD but I am afraid the shipping costs might outweigh your desire to have it....LOL:-D

In my corner of the world, it is known as Reynold's Cut-Rite Wax Paper. The website on the box is reynoldskitchens.com so maybe your supermarket can request it, if not currently in stock.

There are many uses in the kitchen, as well as crafting. We use it in the microwave because the risk of steam burns is reduced (as compared to plastic wraps).

It's also great for short-term storage of conditioned polymer clay!

I'll keep looking for it for the next few weeks, if I can't find it, I might take you up on your offer Granny Hawkins and pay you to get some for me. Just so I know, how much roughly would it cost to get some and post it to Adelaide?
I had a look at the Reynolds website, I don't think the local supermarkets stock the wax paper, but I'll keep looking.

Laura as stated above freezer paper as used in applique it is different to wax paper. I will check my supermakets over the next few days. I know I have seen it recently it costs only a few dollars for a roll. When I find it I will let you know so if you still need it I can post it to you. I am in Melbourne so it would be way less expensive than from the U.S.

If you still need some, let me know, I would be happy to mail some also! There are many uses besides stamping and crafting! I also use mine when i make Rice Krispie treats, to smoosh it down and flatten it out, or when i make cakes, I cut a round to fit in the bottom of the pan to help it not stick. But, if anyone wants some, let me know if you would like a roll mailed to you or just a large envy full...

Thanks Kathleen, I would prefer to get it sent from someone in Aus if possible, because of shipping costs. I have seen the freezer paper in the supermarkets but they all seem to be plastic coated these days, which could be fun if it's to be melted ;) Thanks also Wendykins. My main use for it in the immediate future is for crafts etc, but a lot of people have named other uses. You would think that such a handy product would be more readily available. :p

In my area, waxed paper is really cheap - $1 for a roll or so.... and is in the same area as ziploc bags and aluminum foil - same kind of box as aluminum foil.

Freezer paper is very different than the waxed paper they sell in our stores.

People used to wrap sandwiches, etc in waxed paper...

Hi Laura, I'm in Aus and have 1 or 2 rolls sitting around somewhere for use in crafts. It is still available but I think some stores don't stock it anymore because it doesn't sell so well - most people tend to use cling wrap. If it's stocked it will be with all the other wraps in the grocery store.

Let me know if you can't find any - I'm just north of Brisbane - and I could post you some. It would be a lot cheaper to post it as sheets in a large envelope.

You can get waxed lunch wrap in coles home brand it only $2.50 a roll its normally second shelf up I have only just found it . if you cant find it give me a yell and can post you some.
