Hi,
I have a small house and 4 young kids. Thus, I'd love to hvae some kind of armoire where I can open it and close it when done! Out of the kids' sight! Are there such things as craft/scrapbook armoires? I tend to only see computer armoires. I'd love if a company would make one with a pull-out table (as a work surface) that you could also close up at the end of a work period.
There are some VERY expensive oues out there for scrapping specifically....however a computer one works well. I used one for a few yrs- a super tiny one. But one of the ones with the pull out side tables would work great. or just a computer armoire and one of those little card tables or tables that folds in half. Just leave enough room between tghe armoire and the wall to slide the folded up table behind it. And you'd have the pull out keyboard tray to put you LO in progress on while it's all closed up.:mrgreen:
My husband went to an antique shop and bought me a large dresser to store my stamps. I separate them by drawer. Ex: Flower stamps in 1 drawer, word stamps, letters, etc. in another, and so on.
I have a computer armoire. I got it when my scrap space was in the dining room. I loved being able to close the doors and not have to look at the mess. My craft space has now moved to the garage, but I still have my armoire.
I store most of my papercrafting stuff in a clothing armoire from the bedroom furniture section of Walmart. The top part has two doors that swing open; there are two adjustable shelves with specific weight limits (more than enough for my crafting stuff, but I keep my punches elsewhere), plus the bottom fixed shelf is made to accommodate a TV and can hold a lot of weight -- that's where I put all my 12x12 albums and papers.
The bottom part has two dresser drawers that also have weight limits, and I keep my punch mate, embossing gun, ribbon iron, brayer, and other misc things that I want to have handy in there.
My armoire does not include a fold-out table. I use a repurposed kitchen table to craft on. I've seen some cool drop-leaf tables at Target that I thought would work great as crafting surfaces in small spaces; you could craft away on the table with the leaves up, and when it's time to do pack it up, you can just throw everything onto a spare tray or cookie sheet or something and slap it in the armoire, then fold the leaves down and get that space back.
I have mine in an armoire with a two shelves that slide out. It's made by Sauder and I bought it at a yardsale for $20. It's perfect, since it locks and I have a 3 year old. There are some photos of it on my blog.

This afternoon at Barnes and Noble I was looking at a special Creating Keepsakes magazine devoted to products. It was kind of a Consumer Report-type magazine on scrapbooking supplies and equipment. It listed six or seven types of armoires, designed for paper crafts with a drop leaf or pull out table. It seems like the price range was about $250 to $1250. It was a good report that prompted questions about what you need and what's available. (Also had interesting reports on all the other stuff we're interested in: ink, paper, cardstock, die cut machines, adhesives, scissors, etc, etc, etc)
I have a hand-me-down armoire that I believe was originally intended for a small TV. It's just a basic two-shelves-with-a-door and a drawer at the bottom, but it's plenty of room for my stamp sets on one shelf, a big embellishment organizer on the bottom shelf, assorted adhesives and embossing powders in the drawer, and my paper in magazine holders on top.
I've seen an armoire in the Sears catty that was for crafting - it had a drop down/pull out (can't remember now) table and everything and was reasonably priced......
i have also seen a computer one at office max that had the pull out desk. what caught my eye is the color it matched my furniture. it also had cork board on one side, and you could easily hang curtail rods on the other to store punches.
