hmmmm?
Has anyone stepped up to be coordinator yet? Does anyone have a list of a "line up"? I guess there is no time like the present to start organizing The August VSN!
Sorry if I am incorrect in this and I can't find the post atm to verify. But I was under the impression that there were 3 coordinators for VSN who were splitting up the months. Those were Mamakimberly, Texaslonghorns, and Graciesmom. I am sure they will post a date soon. WOOOO! VSN Rules!!

Honestly.. I think maybe August should be skipped and we should try for like Sept. 2. That would give the coordinator more time to gather (receive) prizes, give Jenn a little bit of a break from all the extra card uploads and also let the chaos of the new school year for the kiddos to calm down a little.
It is fun to do the VSN but I also think if we do it too often we are going to get burned out and suggest doing it like every 6 weeks instead of every month! Keeping track of when they are shouldn't be too hard since word of mouth (keys) travels fast on SCS..

School doesn't start at the same time everywhere... Here in VA we don't start until after Labor Day, and I don't have a calendar with me right now but I think Sept 2nd might be part of Labor Day weekend... I had to miss July so I can't wait for the next one whenever it is!

Just my $0.02 take it or leave it.
I tend to agree with that, there is a chance that we could end up repeating the same challenges??? What about every other month?? month on month off??? Give everyone a full month to re-coop and regroup before the next event. Give Jenn a much deserved break from the caos. Just a thought.
I love VSN, but I agree every other month may be a more appropriate schedule . . . I think I could convince DH to watch the kids better if it wasn't every month . . . and I can't stand to sit out!

VSN is definately my social and stamping time. It is the one time every month I plan to sit down and stamp. DH is great about it and it really gives me an opportunity to destress from the rest of life. I definately would miss doing it if they didn't have it every month. :(
BTW...Sept 2nd-5th is labor day weekend.

I think doing it every month is great! I love doing it. If we rotate the coordinators and challenge hostesses, it shouldn't be too overwhelming for any one person. That way, you can do it whenever you want!

Didn't think of the holiday.. Maybe the week after that then..
Someone stated that with rotations and stuff it is not hard on one person but please don't forget Jenn who has to approve all the pictures.. She still is one person...
This was my first time participating in VSN and it was so much fun! I'm hoping the next date will work out for me to play again. But if not, I wouldn't want to wait 4 months for my next opportunity because of a 2-month schedule. I'd like to see VSN continue monthly.

Hmmm - I forgot about Jenn having to approve all of that! (Sorry - Jenn! You're the best!!!!!) I wonder if there's a way for us to help her?

I am pretty sure only one person can approve the uploads. I think she e-mailed me that once -- it is easier that way . . . I wish we could help her though . . .
Okay....bear in mind that I am primarily a scrapper who stamps, not a stamper who makes cards!!!!
What if every other month we alternated between cards and pages? You could choose to be active or not. Pages would be at a much slower pace - say 90 minutes a page/layout vs. 45 minutes a card. Fewer Hostesses/uploads. Slightly different rules. I'm thinking possibly even fewer participants, but I could be wrong about that...
I would personally *love* to do both. My cards are just awful...I really struggle. Which is why the 45-minute limit was so nice - I didn't have time to overthink and stress. Some ladies may want to do pages for the same reasons that I want to do cards - a set time limit, set parameters, and a good challenge! As far as the boys go? Since DH travels and I'm the sole caregiver about 70% of the time, I don't really give a hoot whether he *wants* to watch the boys or not - they're *his* kids, too! (But that's just MY house...)
Dunno. Thoughts from others? ~ K

We were all new once!;) VSN is Virtual Stamp Night and it's a night for anyone who wants to stamp! We get together around our computers and stamp tables and are given challenges, with 45 minutes to complete each. (You can look back through the VSN threads to see some of the other challenges.)
It's so much fun!!!

I would be sad if it ends up every other month. :( I have missed out on the past 2 due to other plans I could not get out of. But I truly want to participate. I am hoping August will be my month. If we do it every other month - that lessens my chances of having an opportunity to take part.
There were about 6 weeks between the first two VSN's and that seemed like enough time for the collecting of prizes, rest for Jenn, and arrange for hubby's to watch kids.
The only other thing I would worry about is getting "burnt out". It takes a lot of behind the scene's work (I am assuming) to make this night happen..
I'm with skipping a month or every 6 wks - school starts here on August 8th and then you have Labor weekend. I love VSN! I don't want to see it fizzle, BUT...I understand the time it takes too!
I really enjoyed looking at all the VSN cards, but the site was sooooo sloooooow I could never save any or make comments because that was even sloooooower! I don't have 3 minutes between pages and 3 minutes to save or 3 minutes to comment on each card that I really like. Maybe it was sooooo sloooow because it was also on the 15th, the day the Fan Club opens it's doors. I have a high speed connection, but it sure felt like I was on a dial up. Could the next VSN not be on the same weekend as the 15th? Pretty please!
I like the idea of having a VSN that is scrapbook pages once in awhile. I have just started scrapbooking and this would force me to focus on it rather than stamping which is what I usually do.
I thought MamaK had the next hostess lined up, its prob in one of the original threads but I bet we wouldn't have a hard time finding someone to volunteer. I am all for every month, rotating coordinators and hostesses eliminate burn out and it seems the hostess slots fill up pretty quickly. The people we should be asking are Jenn and Daven, if they are Ok with every month
I say " lets go" As far as prizes if it is too much for everyone to send and pay postage on their package maybe we could have some people just send stamps while others send prizes. To send stamps in an envelope would only cost the 37 cents to mail plus buying whatever amount of stamps to help mail prizes. What do you think?
I think the honor of winning may be sufficient - perhaps we should forego actual prizes if we do vsn every month - that would eliminate quite a lot of organization/hassle - thoughts?
P.S. I'm not a scrapper so i'd sooner stick with cards!!
Quick thoughts before I go finish packing my stuff:
The 15th wasn't the issue - it was the slow gallery we've been dealing with for the past few months. Scott & Daven have been working very hard to increase performance there, and we should see improvements soon. Of course, as fast as they add lanes to our gallery highway, more people come and fill 'em up, and we get bottlenecked.
Monthly is fine - just seems like the last two were *very* close together. It was a scheduling deal, and with convention and all this was the most convenient weekend for most. You'll never be able to please everyone! Beate & I can work out whatever to be home the evening of. I plan to be home for the flood of VSN questions that come to me. With enough notice, it's all good!
I had suggested a while back that the hostesses for each challenge take care of their own prizes. So if I were hostessing, I would send out prizes from my own stash. Would cost a bit less than my having to send them to the coordinator as well as extra for postage for her to turn around and mail them. We could put a limit of $3-$5 value for each prize so that hostesses aren't feeling put out. Just a thought.

As a recent hostess, I too offered to provide prizes for my challenge's winners... which I think is a good solution to the collection/organization/distribution aspect of VSN...or.... we could post the winners for each months, or every other month's VSN -however often they are held... and then once a quarter (if VSN is monthly) or twice a year(if VSN is every other month), we could have a contest of the winners artwork and those people win a prize that has been collected. For example, let's say there are 8 challenges each VSN, and 3 winners for each challenge. Once every 3 months, a contest would be held by people going to the gallery and "voting" on their favorites... or something... I don't know, just thinking out loud....

It was my first time too, and I had a blast! August is a horrible month for me (visitors from the UK -- no, not that they're horrible, they're just here over two weekends ) but I'll play later if I need to. I love VSN, it forces me to try things I've never been brave enough to do "by myself" -- and makes me clear up my work table to boot :o.
So I say "just do it...just do it...just do it" in my best devil on your shoulder voice.
