Question Self- imposed spending limits/budgets

I know several of us have self-imposed spending limits or budgets to keep us from going crazy when we go in our favorite stores. I know that I *try* to stay in my limit but sometimes, well, something just takes me over when I'm in the store!

I saw that Wal-Mart now has the "pre-paid" Visa card. It costs $4.97 to load it with up to $5,000 (man, I wish I had 5k for stamping!). It functions just as a Visa so you can use it anywhere you want, even online and you can put more money on it at anytime.

I'm thinking this might work well to keep me on my "budget". I could load it once a month with my predetermined amount and I could use it anywhere I want.

Anyone else out there doing something like this? Just wondering if you find it works well, or not?

Personally if I was going to put $$ on a card to spend on crafting rather than just using cash I would be more likely to open a free checking account at my bank and then just transfer my weekly/monthly limit into it. I would rather use the additional $4.95 on supplies.

This is going to sound weird, but I have a bi-weekly amount direct deposited to my demo. She keeps track of my spending and what my balance is. I love her to no end!: )

Unfortunately when it comes to stamps and SU! in general I lose control.

I like the idea of the seperate account. I think that would really be helpful and probably a HUGE eye-opener. I am really working on using what I have and staying on budget this year. I may have to look into something like that!

Why pay Wal-Mart $5.00 for a card with your money on it when you can get a Visa gift card from your bank?

I have a separate checking account. And I only spend what I make in my SU! business.

I think it's a solution that might work for some, no matter what the source. I think my bank charges $4.95 also, but I have never been to Wal-mart and would prefer to support my community bank, if this was the option for me to choose. And it probably shoud be.... I worked extra on Dec 29th, and told myself I could spend 1/2 of that money on stamps and supplies. I'm over 1/2 already, and with new stamps from Asela coming out this week at CHF as well as the Papertrey release tonight, I just might spend it all.....

guess I'll have to call my boss and see if I can work some more!
