Red face Household Items Used in Stamping

I have always wondered what prompts stampers to experiment with household items in stamping such as floor polish, coffee fliters, salt etc. Today I found out for myself how easy it is to find a great use for an everyday household item, just because I didn't have what I usually use.

I had a 3.5 hour conference call at work today for which I knew I would be mainly listening so I took some stamping supplies to work to make some swap cards during the call. Unfortunately I forgot the sponges I needed to do the technique, so I started searching for something to use instead.

I tried kleenex, toilet paper, napkins, coffee filters, dry erase cleaners - everything I could think of - nothing worked. Finally I took one last search through my purse to see what else I could try.

Well, I had a feminine hygiene pad sitting there and thought - why not?? So ladies, let me tell you, a small piece of the pad cut and folded together makes a great replacment for a sponge. It can even be textured if you want it to be. Truly, it worked liked a dream and my fingers didn't get nearly as inky as usual.

Today's featured household item for stamping is ... the feminie hygiene pad!!! I plan on adding one to my tool bag just in case :p

Who would have thunk it.

Happy Stamping Everyone!

well, just goes to show you all those "tests" they show on TV about the fluid being trapped in the pad are false... if the ink comes out, obviously they're not doing what the ads claim

Not sure that I will be trying that anytime soon but I would have paid to see you cutting that thing up to use for stamping, that is just too funny:mrgreen: ...and might I add, VERY resourceful! Good job!

Well this isn't funny at all ... but I have used pieces of cheesecloth, Q-tips, kleenix, erasers (for a colored in block stamp), wooden blocks from children's block sets for mounting, paper towels, makeup brushes ... well that's all I can think of right now. Always trying to save time or money. I can't look at anything now without thinking, "how can I use this with stamping?" Oh yeah, at Christmas with the Christmas crackers there were these small red ribbons and, of course, I started collecting everyone's for my own selfish purposes.

I have a "tool" not made of tampons or anything cool (hee hee) like that BUT it is a bunch or rubber bands that you wrap duct tape about on end of them and then cut the loops so that you have a lot of long rubber strands hanging down. You stamp the ends of the bands in ink and then onto your paper for a differnt kind of background paper.

It is kind of different.

This is so funny! Several years ago, after several glasses of wine, one of my sisters and my niece - who are both stampers - decided we should write a book entitled "One Hundred and One Uses for Maxi Pads". We came up with all kinds of ideas - sweat bands, packing material for fine crystal, take 4 and make house shoes (this can be done - a co-worker made some for gag gifts at Xmas), but never in a million years did we think of using them as a replacement for sponge daubers!!!! I can't wait to tell my sister & niece. This is where women have the edge over men - we can always take what we've got & make it work! U ROCK!

How funny! Are you going to share your cards with us? I want to see 'em! And are you going to share this tip with the ladies in your swap for whom you made the cards? Curious minds want to know (or at least this one )

I was hoping to start my gallery this weekend, so will make sure I load it first (with the tip included) and will post it here too.

I may just have to include a note that my card has the stayfree "stamp" of approval.
