I think it's all in personal interpretation. My dad absolutely LOVES old, classic cars and trains, so he would see it more like a tribute to him and his interests if I used that image on his card, KWIM? If you're afraid that that's how your dad (and/or fil) might take it, then that's probably not the set you'll want to use for their cards.
My fil is a tough one to figure out. He has no hobbies or interests... so when it comes to his cards, simple geometric shapes and subdued, masculine colors are always a safe bet with him.
I'm not afraid - I have great relationships with both of them. And my dad has an incredible sense of humor (maybe it comes from 40plus years as a radio announcer/talk show host).
I love the set and can't wait to order it at Stamp Camp next week and start using it.
I'm actually kind of excited about that set! About 30 years ago my Dad bought an old truck (1929) that he found in someone's field. He's rebuilt it completely and finished it this year. He entered it in a couple car shows this summer and won some awards. I would LOVE to make a Father's Day card for him using that stamp!
It's the only set I've ordered so far this year. I didn't get it for my dad, but for my nephew, who loves cars. I also got it for myself, 'cause it has all those flowers and the bird. I will cut up and separate the sentiment so I can just use the "Thinking of You" part.
This is the first set I had on my small order. My grandfather had a Model A just like the one in the image and my mother inherited the car. We still have it. I got it for more sentimental reasons that anything!

Hmm, I never thought about it making them feel old like that broken down car. That is kinda weird. I still want the set. I can use it for other things I guess now, but I would feel weird using that for father's day.
Nooooo, because I thought of the Jeff Foxworthy joke,
"If you mow the yard and you find a CAR - you might just be a ..."
hahaha! That's why I want this set! That stamp made me think of how my FIL likes to "decorate" the yard. If only they had a toilet converted to a flower pot!
Have you seen those??? Where someone dragged their old toilet in the front yard and planted flowers in them? My FIL doesn't have one of those, I think MIL would kill him. But I see them here and there and they always give me a giggle.
Anyway, that's what this set made me think of.
And I am so going to buy it and make a card for all of the male "gardeners" I know.
I didn't connect it with old or anything, but I did think it was great that after losing so many masculine sets, it was nice to see some new ones. This one is on my list for sure in Feb and I am planning on using it for either Fathers Day or birthdays.
I love the set - and have already ordered it - and will use it.
It just struck me weird and I wondered anyone else got the same thought.
Geez - no wonder people don't post here much :(
No need to be sad. I love the set too...I just had the same thought about the suitability of the image for Father's Day. I like Sophie's idea of separating the "on Father's Day" from the "Thinking of You." Everyone else was just expressing their thoughts...I don't see anybody getting upset.

LOL, and it sounds like some folks did and some didn't  . Nobody's telling you that you shouldn't think that! They read your opinion and responded with theirs. Please don't think that's an attack, we all love to share our opinions, lol! These are discussion boards after all...
You just keep posting whenever you feel like it, 'k? It wouldn't be much of a discussion board if nobody posted, now, would it?
i know!! i thought the same thing! my dad would absolutely love it because he's a motorhead, but i can see how some fathers might think that!!! its like when you're looking at fathers day cards at the store (not that anyone HERE would BUY a card, such scandal ;) ) and all you can find are ties and golf clubs and mallard ducks and my dad has no interest in any of those things! its just not him. old broken down cars, yes. ties, not so much. i think my mom was gonna get that set actually.

A local plumber has one in his yard! What's even weirder is that we used to go to a rather up-scale, funky restaurant that had a very elaborate porcelain Italian toilet bowl filled with fresh flowers on a pedestal next to the reservation desk!

I was actually thinking how wonderful it is that we have so many different opinions here, and everyone is so nice about it. It's always fascinating how one product can spark such varied reactions, and it'll be great to see what the people who love this set come up with in the gallery--gorgeous stuff, as always, I'm sure!
So turn your frown upside down and be glad you started this thread--after reading it, I don't feel like my opinion is so strange anymore and can't wait to see the gallery even though I'll likely never buy the set. Inspiration comes from everywhere. Thanks from me for getting this started!

If Sophie ordered it I need to have it on my first order! I will see her cards and need it immediatly!
I was going to get it on a later order, alas not for father's day as my dad has died, but just as a great coloring stamp.
wouldn't it be nice if SU put a few funny lines in the sets. Happy fathers day sentiment and Redneck sentiment or Jan's line -ome dad's do laugh at fathers day cards! I never send sentimental cards to my family they would cringe!
I agree with teh OP - while I like the images, I do not beleive they are appropriate for Father's Day. My dad and grandfathers would have been offended by the old, tossed away car and the bird with flowers on the watercan (which is adorable) would not work either - the men in my family do not do bows, ribbon or any flowers!

SuG!
I was so delighted by your first sentences!
...and so saddened by your last one. I'm so sorry about your dad!
How about using the stamp as a masculine get well card? You could stamp a sentiment that said "Heard you needed some fixin' up". Something like that would tie into the broken down beater look of the car.
