Versafine black ink and watercolor paper..problem

Hi-

I am really at wit ends here. I really like to use versafine black ink when watercoloring because I think it shows richer than the pallette or stazon, HOWEVER, my problem lies in the ink SMEARING when I use it on watercolor paper. I have tried heat setting it with SOME success, but its still touch and go. The other 2 inks mentioned above do not show up well due to the gradiation of the watercolor paper. I do have a dried out Brillance, so I could get a new one and try that, but does anyone have ANY suggestions for me?? Should I try possibly a different ink?? HELP! Is there such a thing a SMOOTH watercolor paper? I am using the kind called Strathmore that you purchase at ACM or Ms..decent quality and I do like working on it.

I don't have that problem with my WC paper & Versafine. Are you giving it enough time to dry? I stamp my image and set aside for a few minutes to let it dry before going on. I use strathmore also, no problem with smearing. Hmmm...

I don't believe I'ved used my Versafine pad enough to give an opinion on that. If you are looking for a smooth watercolor paper, try hot press. I really like it and use it most of the time.

I don't have any problem with Versafine Black Onyx and w/c paper. But I don't always have time to color them right away after stamping so usually they sit for a day or 2. Stamp a few and leave them overnight, see if you still have problems. Good luck,

I use Arches hot press w/c paper (which is VERY smooth!) and love the results I get with the VersaFine on that. Because I am impatient, :mrgreen: I usually give my image a quick blast with my heat tool right after stamping, just to make sure it's set. HTH!

I've had better luck with Stazon and then letting it dry naturally. Good Luck.

I use Versafine Black (heat embossed), or Memories Black (no embossing)

Well, I'll kind of echo what some others have said. I have found if I go ahead and stamp a few images and then work on somethng else for a bit, then I don't have trouble with smearing. But if I try to color in an image right after I've stamped it, whether I use Palette or Versafine, I seem to have trouble. Try stamping and then setting aside and coloring the images later and see if that helps.

At the Portland Rubber Stamp convention last March, I worked as a demo and sat across from Zana Clark from Stamp Zia. She uses watercolor paper and LOTS of water with her stamped images. She swears by Document ink and says that she likes it better than any other.
