I am wondering if anyone has had any trouble with the frappacino bottles transfering the scent/flavor onto the candy that is put inside of the bottle? I washed mine by hand and twice in dishwasher, but they still have a pretty strong scent to them if they sit with the lids on for a few days. I am now worried about putting unwrapped candy in them.
When I did them for gifts last year I soaked them in VERY hot water and soap in the kitchen sink. I have one of those insta-hot thingy bobbers.
As soon as the water was cool enough for me to touch, I handwashed them with soap and water. After that I ran them thru the dishwasher. I never had a problem with the scent getting onto my homemade goods inside the bottle.
I made a lot of these last year. A couple of bottles had the lingering scent. After washing and drying, I stuck a dryer sheet (Bounce) in the bottle and it seemed to absorb the "coffee" smell. I then washed it again to get out the Bounce smell.
You might try putting a TSP of dry ground coffee in them and closing them up(maybe over night). My DH says this is what the police use for foul odors. We tried it in a fridge that has been setting unused and it worked for us.
I haven't tried this myself, but what about stopping by the pet store and picking up some filter charcoal? When I used to sell Tupperware, they suggested putting charcoal in the containers to remove odors.
I soak them in really hot water to get the goopy label glue off and then wash them in the dishwasher on HOT and have never had a problem with any smell...
