I am new to stamping and am keeping my supplies in my unfinished basement. The basement doesn't get freezing, but it certainly is colder than the rest of the house since I live in New England and the basement isn't directly heated. I'm just wondering if the colder temp is okay for my stamps, inks, etc. For example, will the colder temp damage the adhesive on my stamps or somehow affect the consistency of my ink?

I have a little trouble stamping in my cold basement in Connecticut, if it is REALLY cold the ink just doesnt seem to go on my stamps evenly and my glue dots do not like being too cold... I am subscribing to this thread because I was wondering the same thing yesterday while stamping in my basement during a snow/sleet/rain storm... I ended up bringing stuff upstairs to the dining room....

I'm not really for sure, but I can tell you that I moved to kentucky 2 1/2 years ago. It get's down to the low teen's in the winter. The first year I was here everything was stored in the garage - and it was a very old house so there was no insulation.
Then when we bought our home last September I got the sun room as a craft room. It is sometimes colder in there than it is outside, go figure.
It's been 2 1/2 years and I have not had any problems. But I do keep things like glue and inks and such in the house. I don't want those to freeze.
Maybe someone can tell us if there is a problem with the long term....

I do want to add that I have no problem in the summer.... I suppose I should get a space heater but I hate to think of what the electricity costs would be... good luck and where are you in New England??
I live in Northern Germany and my stamping place is in the attic...cold in wintertime and hot in the summer...but my stamping stuff has never been damaged until now.
My craft room is also in my basement and it is quite cold as well. As a stamp manufacturer, I can tell you that the cold will not harm your stamps.
I have been crafting in my room for many years now and have not found that the cold has negatively affected any of my inkpads - I use primarily VersaFine and Colorbox Chalk inks as well as Tsukineko Brilliance.
The only thing that seems to be affected by the cold are glitter glue and liquid pearls. My remedy for this has been to keep them on my lap while stamping to warm them up.
My biggest problem with the cold is that I don't like to be cold! ;) I am trying to find a way to move to a different room but my dh doesn't like clutter. Unfotunately, I have too many stamps and supplies to have NO clutter. Sheesh! Maybe we need to move to a warmer climate?!
My stuff has been the basement for 3 years with NO issues (other than having too much stuff). I LOVE IT IN THE BASEMENT, its SO peaceful. And the kid & hubby hate coming down there so Iam all by my stampin self!!
All my crafting supplies are in the basement and it does get chilly down there and I have not had any problems with my stamps and supplies - and right now we have 14 inches of snow on the ground!!
Heat and humidity will effect your paper for sure. Over time heat will effect your rubber stamps by drying them out.
Things should be kept at room temperature (but it's rather subjective what "room temperature" is).
One thing's for sure, heat or cold will effect the person using the craft supplies. I have a hard time doing anything with my hands if I'm shaking from the cold. Also I find it difficult to move about if I have to be bundled up in layers of clothes while stamping. (Yes I do wear clothing while crafting, but don't want to wear 2-3 layers just to stay warm. Too bulky!)
My stamping space is in my unheated basement and I think it's about 61 degrees in here. I see a difference in my inkpads (SU inks), like I have to tap on the pads a LOT to get good coverage. (a lot more than usual and they aren't that old....)
And my fingers get cold too...other than that, it's ok...the stamps themselves are faring rather well

I am wondering from those who keep their supplies in the basement, if your paper supply doesn't pick up any odors in the summer when it is humid down there? Maybe I can make a little stamping spot down there if I get a de-humidifier..and a heater for this time of year!
I stamp in my finished basement, which can still get pretty chilly. I keep a little heater down there and run it so I can stamp in the winter. It heats the stamp room pretty well all by itself. I haven't had any problem with my stamps, inks or adhesive. In the summer the paper gets a bit softer with the humidity down there, but that's about it.
All my stamps and supplies are stored in my basement also. However yes it's cold down there this time ofyear so I pack up the supplies I need and carry them up stairs in the kitchen and stamp where it is warmer. Yes I run up and down stairs because I forget things or think of other things I need. But it is still much better than stamping in the cold.
Nothing is effected by the cold once I bring it upstairs into the warmer area.
In the summer I have a dehumidifier that runs to keep out the moisture in the arir down stairs. also the musty smell it can get down there.
