Default What is your Stamping New Year Resolution?

HMM so can everyone believe that 2007 is almost out of here?? I sure can't! Well as I woke up this AM and went to my craft table I thought MAN what is it about these stamps that are making me love them so much but seem afraid to use them???.. SOOOOOOOOOO for the New Year I am going to try to do 1 card a day.. I don't think that will be too hard right? I think its the fear of stamping and making it look right that scares me.. I just started stamping, I don't even have 6 months yet! My thing is altering stuff I love to do it.. but I have slowly started to move into the stamping world as well.. Ok so I'm moving like a turtle! lol.. I'm just learned what inks are best to stamp an image how to blend and all that good stuff... For the yr. to come I want to be comfortable to go just go to my area and grab some stamps and paper and just make a card w/hardly any thought(a girl can dream!lol)... hmmmm we shall see.. So enough of me talking, what is your New Years Stamping Resolution?

My first one is to limit the money I spend and to start using the stamps I have! I'm going to be very careful with my purchases and limit myself to $40 a month. I decided on that amount from another thread (thanks Denise!).

My second resolution is to re-do my stamp room.... I've been putting off re-painting and re-organizing because of other things we were dealing with. But things are good now and it's time to stop procrastinating!

I don't know if it's a resolution, as I'm attempting it already, is not to become a hoarder with my growing collection.

I'm determined to use at least one stamp out of each set by the end of the month, then start going through them again.

I'm not going to consider a card or other item finished until I love it. I either love it, it is a work in progress, or it is trash!

Scrapbookmama_14.........Yes it is an exciting world once you pick up a stamp. After you get the basics down, take the plunge and expand your creativity! There are lots of things out there to give ideas and inspiration. I do however disagree with one of your statements......"For the yr. to come I want to be comfortable to go just go to my area and grab some stamps and paper and just make a card w/hardly any thought(a girl can dream!lol)..."

Creating a card takes a lot of pre-thought and planning. You have to decide who the card is for, the occassion, the likes and dislikes of that particular person, the color sceme and the various paper and embellishments you will use. Also, are you using some technique of embossing?......Do you use your die cutting machine for additional embellishments (ok, yes, you can also cheat and purchase die cuts, but there's no personalization in that). These are just a few of the things that need to be considered for your card before even picking up a rubber stamp. I don't mean to overwhelm you, but the entire process is all part of the FUN of doing the cards. You'll be proud to present your card to the person if you've taken the time to really plan it. Hand-made cards are things people should want to keep, not just read and toss.

Me too! Use what I have!

I really want to catch up on my scrapbooks! I was so proud to be finished with 2006, I do not think I made many pages of 2007 activities yet.

To actually use my enormous collection of stamps!
Buy more accessories than stamps (and use them.)
Save money for a laptop, instead of buying more stamps.
Try harder to plan ahead for birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas.
To actually send the cards I make!

Pia,
I am SO JEALOUS of where you are with your scrapbooking! I am not even at the year 2000! I moved to MA. in 2000 then had my accident and have put scrapbooking on the back burner. Inspire me PLEASE! I am so much more into card making. My resolutions are: TRY not to be such a stamping piggy (pick up a bit as I go along) and to get into my scrapbooking more!! I hope we don't get too much snow today! Katie

I think my resolution will be to send out the cards I make and to decrease the number of stamps I own by selling them on the 'bay.

I actually have two resolutions, but they seem to be the same as everyone else. I am going to limit my self on my spending. I am a demo for SU, but only a hobby one, so either I need to find people to order from me to help me reach my minimum, or I need to quit. Second, is to stamp everyday. It makes me happy, so why not!!

This is so funny! I just wrote my list last night after I cleared out my craft room. Now, all I have is stuff I plan to use but it is scattered everywhere! I decided to limit my spending, use the stuff I have, buy for the project and not hoard, and to pick up after myself. I think I have the same goals as everyone else! Happy new year!!

I don't agree with this at all. Most of the time my cards are planned out... but I've made some of my best cards on a whim. Sometimes I'm not inspired until I've gone into my stamp room and just started playing around.

Also, not everyone has or can afford a die cutting machine. Using purchased die cuts does not make their cards any less personal. It doesn't take away from all the time and love... not to mention money, put into their creation.

Hit my scrap bags harder before I cut a new piece. Buy less stamps and use what I have. Try to deplete my surplus around here to make my stamp room more manageable. Make it a point to stamp something at least every day!!!!

I'd like to try more techniques and make enough cards to have more on hand when I need them. Right now, I'm just making enough for specific upcoming occasions.

Echoing what others have said...

1. Spend less and make wiser choices (less impulse buys)
2. Use the many, many things I already have
3. Send out cards more often to brighten someone's day
4. Organize

I want to remember to stamp on my envelopes in 2008. I always forget. I need to set them out by my desk where I create and make them match the card while I stamp the card. When I get RAKs with beautifully stamped envelopes it makes such an impression! At least it does on me! Great thread.

Smile New Year"s Resolution

LIke many others, I want to stamp more,,,,every day would be great,,,but I could live with 3 times a week; buy less and use what I have.
I have decided to have a PLAN-- it goes like this--
1. Choose one of the following each time I stamp
a) stamp set to feature(to see how many different ways I can use it)
b) color scheme(and try to get out of my basics only box)
c) occasion(create both traditional and wild/zany celebrations)
d) card layout(use the sketches from card mags or on-line ideas that I like)
e) skill or technique to learn/practice(its the only way I will grow as a stamper I am sure)
2. Create at least 5, hopefully 10 cards each time I stamp
3. Begin a supply box of cards ready to send.

Stay tuned to this station for up to the minute updates of how this plan will unfold (or unravel). ;)

1) I want to organize better, so I can see what I have and remember to use it. 2) I want to try to KEEP my stamp space cleaner and better organized throughout the year.
3) I want to have cards ready and waiting so I don't have to panic and buy a card at the last minute because I'd forgotten someone's special day

Here's my list:

1. Organize and move my stamping/scrapping into the spare bedroom. (This one has been at the top of the list for about 5 years now!)

2. Come to my senses and realize that just because I HAVE a 40% coupon for Mike's or AC's, I don't HAVE to use it for the sake of using it!

3. 10 Christmas cards a month!

4. Really look at what I have and what I do not use and put some stamp sets on ebay to pay tuition for my kids.

5. Maybe host an ATC swap or two.....or three....

I think that's it for now!

Hum, buy more stamps. I lost a lot last June in "retired". I haven't replaced but a few. Also my customers say I need to branch out style-wise.

1) Finish the great unmounting process (hope to finish before 2008 )
2) Finish unmounting all my wheels (ditto)
3) Stamp 10 cards a month so I am always set for birthdays, thanks you's, holidays, etc.
4) CLEAN UP AFTER I STAMP - EVERY TIME (not days later)
5) Get up the courage to start a gallery (LOL)
6) Get up the courage to submit work for contests or a design team (probably more of a 2009 resolution, but it is nice to have something to work towards, right?)

HAPPY & HEALTHY 2008 wicked early EVERYONE!!

To not be as afraid to make big purchases. What you ask?

Well I don't buy expensive things that I would really use then *tinkle* my $$ away on small items that I don't ever use....I think by buying the costlier item and being smart about what I buy at all I will save money....if that makes sense LOL

I really need to join the Christmas card challange for next year!! Still don't have them all made.

Use the stamps sets I already have. I have yet to use last years sell-a-bration sets and I placed an order with The angel Company and yet to use them!

Spend less since I am not stamping that much.

Guess I just need to get my butt away from the computer and stamp more!!

I don't know if its a resolution because I've been thinking about this for a while. But I would like to stamp more, send out more of the cards I make, try different techniques, join a few of the challenges here on SCS, I think that's about it.

Great thread, in addition to my response above, I would love to make cards just to make cards! I would also like to make gifts well in advance of when I need them not at the last minute. My mother's birthday is the same day every year-right?

I'd like to say not buy any new supplies or stamps until I sell, trade, or at least use what I have, but I know that won't fly. I'll break that one the first time I go to Hobby Lobby lol. So I think I plan to just set aside a time and evening that I can work uninterrupted on trades for at least a few hours. Maybe after I have that down, I'll step it up to trying a new technique.

My resolution is to use what I have more. For instance, a month ago I finally got the tab punch which I thought I couldn't live without (I had been borrowing a friends too regularly, if you know what I mean) - and now that I have my own, I haven't used it yet?! What's with that!

My SU demonstrator says you never regret what you ordered, only what you didn't order! ...I want to make sure though that I'm a good steward with what I order

OMG, if I had to take all that stuff into consideration...I wouldn't make cards! Normally, I just fly by the seat of my pants and what happens...happens!

Hobbywoman.......I personalize each card I make for the person who will receive it. That's why I put so much thought into it. Also, it's not just the card front, it's the graphic inside, the sentiment and the matching envelope. I'm also very particular about the type of paper I use. I prefer paper with texture.

Each person is different and sets their own standards. We all have our own reasons why we make hand-made cards. For some people, it's even therapy.

My stamping resolution is definitely to spend less money on this hobby -- no more impulse buys ... think about how many times I will use a stamp set before buying it ... not buying a set just because I LOVE one stamp ...

My resolutions are:
- scrapbook once a week
- stamp my envelopes
- put aside some of my SU! earnings to replace the lost stone from my engagement ring
