Default Why do some cards in the gallery...

...have labels at the bottom with copyright/artist information, while others don't? Is it a personal preference, or is there some other reason?

(I'm not sure if this is the right forum...sorry if it isn't.)

It's definitely personal preference. Some people have the program to do it, others have to remember to put it there when they scan the card. Daven has included a tag line that will comply with SU policy, but it won't help if someone copies the card and puts it on their website. Since we've recently seen that happening, more people are putting their info on.

Ah-HA! Now there is a good reason to put my name tag on my photos! Never thought of that!
Thanks!

And when I save a card to my computer (for later casing) I always type the stampers name (or SCS user name if that is all I can see) in the filename so I can give credit later. If the card already has the name on it, I have saved a step :-)

I also thought it was a copywrite issue with SU!

Daven's taken care of the copywrite issue with SU by having it under the photo on the page when it loads. Lately it's just come down to theives and personal preference.

Actually, SU! policy requires that the copyright notice be digitally captured along with the artwork; having it below the photo, but not actually ON the photo is not in compliance with the policy at least from what I read...

I prefer to watermark all photos of my creations to help curtail image "thievery" (not receiving due credit for my work when others copy and paste photos of my work and put it into their site without permission, etc.).

Odd, because on their own site, there is no copywrite on the pictures in the Showcase; and on a demo's website it's on the bottom of the page. Are you sure?

Let me tell you, it drives me NUTS to see policy WRITTEN in the manual one way, and then on the Stamper's Showcase, it's NOT done that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Supposedly, word went around that because photos were taken from the showcase and posted on an officially SU! sponsored demo'r website, it was at that point "unnecessary".

SCS is not SU! sponsored, so it is my understanding that the way the copyright is shown below, but not actually on the photo is then not exactly in compliance the way the policy reads...

I don't particularly care, I just started watermarking the copyright on my photos because I'd received numerous emails from various demo'rs warning me about this very thing (warning to help me, not annoy me, I must add!) and that other non-SU! sponsored sites were being forced to comply with this method of noting copyright on all web photos containing SU! images.

I'm just relaying what I READ ....but it really BUGS me that they give a conflicting message when they themselves don't do it that way on the website itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could be misinterpreting, but I distinctively recall that it said it must be digitally captured in the photo. I will go back and re-look it up and see if I'm mistaken...

I am getting on in years, you know ... LOLLOLLOLLOL!

Sorry to be so long-winded ...it sure is one of those "grey" areas where they SAY one thing, but they themselves do it different!!!!! Ack!

I believe he read up on the policy before he had Tom (I think?) do the tag under the gallery shot. From what I remember, it had to be under the image, and in a non-searchable format.

Haveta go re-read. . .

OK, here's what I found, and I think it likely I am somewhat mistaken in my interpretation of the policy:

"When posting hand-stamped artwork on a personal web site, demonstrators must use the graphical copyright notice. A graphical copyright is the copyright notice in graphical, or picture, format, which therefore cannot be captured by a search engine."

I guess I'm STILL somewhat confused as to EXACTLY what this means ...

My confusion lies in "graphical or picture, format" ... precisely WHAT meets these requirements?

OK, now I'm more confused. So am I in violation of SU! policy because I don't show copyright info and my name in the graphic images that I uploaded to this site?

Also, Julie HRR, what do you mean by "watermark"? Are you just referring to the tag, or have you actually added something in the graphic? (You can do something like with Adobe, right?)

Total confusion.

And what exactly does THAT mean??? I am just more confused than ever. Question I guess comes down to if I can figure out how to do it in the actual picture, does Jenn want me to completely redo all 4 pages of my gallery? Probably not, so I'll just remember to do it from now on.

When my co-worker leaves, and I can speak freely, I'll call DS.

We'll see what we need to do. There's an option to watermark images in the gallery, but I've not explored that non-reversable option yet.

Okay. That phone call was pointless! Send an email in to ds, yadayadayada. Noone can instruct me on policy other than what Julie already quoted here.

Such is life, eh? I'm not gonna worry over it much. I put it on my stuff, Daven's added the tag (which I believe is non-searchable, but what do I know? Nothing!). . . . and Stampin' Discuss has allowed the posting of this site on their board several times.

Talk about wishy-washy here!

SU! doesn't care if your name is on there as the designer, just that proper copyright notice of their images is given.

As for watermarking, yes, it is something I create in my graphics program and then have layered over (for lack of a better word) onto my photo (I'm thinking of investting in Adobe Photoshop 2 for this, but don't have it yet so I use EasyBatch software by Yellow Mug for Macs).

Sorry if it seems I'm adding to the confusion--that was not my intent ...

Julie ~ you aren't the one causing the confusion; SU is with the double standard and confusing policy. I want it to be black and white "just do it this way" to avoid all these problems/issues. It would just be so much easier.

I think when SU says "graphical" it means you are using like a jpg or gif file image "layered" as Julie says on your picture. Search engines find text, they can't find graphics. Now WHY they care if somebody does a search and finds the copyright notice I have no clue...

I scan my card, tag, etc. and then save it to a file. I then open it up in Adobe Photoshop 7 and layer a text message on top of the card at the bottom showing my name and Stampin' Up!'s information. Take a look at this link to see an example of what I do. I'll try to get this link to work correctly.
