Default Next year I am doing Christmas cards differently!

Every year I make 80+ cards to send out. Every year at this time I think the same thing - I HATE my cards with every fiber of my being because I am so bored with them!

Next year I am making 10-12 of a different design every month. And I will be finished in August! Or I can take the summer off! Yeah, that's the ticket! It'll be swell! And I won't hate the sight of that stinkin' Santa that I thought was soooooo cute a few months ago!

Are ya with me?

First wow you make a lot of cards. I am no were near that talented nor do I have that many people to share holiday greetins with. That being said I think your idea is great way to accomplish what you want without overloading on christmas cards. :p

YES!!!! and I am so relieved it is not just me!! I made 80 cards of the same design and now I completely hate it and dont want to send it out!!! I had showed it to a couple of people, and posted it in my gallery here(it is the wintergreen Lovely as a Tree if you go look), and got great reactions to it. By card 80, I was ready to puke on it, plus I was exhausted because I picked the hardest card in the world to do!! On top of all that, I had to buy 8 packages of the wintergreen cardstock, cause I am so OCD that I couldnt get any of the other paper to work right. So now, I have spent a fortune on cards I dont like anymore, plus, it may be next christmas before I get all of the glitter off of me!!

I've done your "new plan" now (ie: Make 10 cards, different designs, monthly throughout the year) for a couple years now. LOVE IT. By August, I'm ready with an assortment of holiday cards.

No stress.

I made 30 Christmas cards this summer and thought I was all done. Then I signed up as a SU! demo and figured I should use all SU! stamps, papers, etc for my cards, so began working on more and sent off my original 30 to soldiers in Afghanistan. Then my husband tells me he would love it if I would make him 30-40 cards for his office, so I go back to the drawing board... What happened to my great intentions to be done this summer???? Oh, well, I am now almost done again - my 3rd design!

I start early (July) and try to make 5-6 or so of each design - I bore easily with one design! I usually send out 120-150 handmade cards. Some people, who I know will value the creation, receive one-of-a-kind special cards. People I know will pitch the card get something cute; but inexpensive in terms of embellishments and quick to make.

This year, I made cards (all the same style) until I could look at them no more and then I stopped. I made no more! I had made a total of 62--I need about 80. Every year, until this year, I made somewhere around 80-100 and it got to feeling like more of a chore than a hobby and I was sick of looking at them. I am sending the 62 that I have made to the people that I know will appreciate them and that I see a lot. The others on my list will be getting store bought! I can not bear making 30 more!

I like the OP's idea. I think I may try this next year!

There is usually a cool thread around here that is called Christmas Card challenge. People make a certain number of cards each month so that by the time it's Christmas people are done and ready to go. They don't get bored and they are stress free!

I used to make about 70, now it's over 90, but I never could make them all the same!! I just couldn't do it. I have 8 of some, 12 of some, occasionally 20 or even 24 of one, but that's the max.

That is how I did my cards this year! I participated in the Christmas Card Challenge here on SCS (well, until about June when I had severe morning sickness and was in & out of the hospital). I got caught up when I started feeling better. I sorted my cards today, and they went postal! What a great feeling! I usually start them in November and make around 100 of the SAME design and yes, I would be sick of them and hate them! Not this year --- well, one card I didn't care for too much!
Your plan is absolutely stress free! Plus, you get to use more stamp sets or use one set in more versatile ways!

WOW -- at least you got yours done! I got a bunch done for hubby to give at work and a few other cards then I lost the mojo. Got a sample done that I like but can I sit down and make 20? Instead, I am scrapbooking! Really don't want to work on cards!

I make lots of different cards and start pretty early in the year. This year, I made over 200 cards and sent about 120 to the troops for their use. My huge collection of Christmas stamps keeps me from getting bored.

Mass production of a single design is BORING for me!

I have to make about 60 cards, and I usually try to make each one different unless I run out of time, and then I do about 5 - 10 of the same design. It is hard to come up with that many different ideas -- this board has been great this year! It is exhausting. I keep meaning to start earlier, but it never seems to happen. Once I make them, I go through them and my list and decide who each one will go to.

I joined the Christmas 2007 challenge and made about 15 cards in February. I just found them!!! Yeah, I had totally forgotten about them.

I can't imagine making multiples of the same card -- I think 4 or 5 of the same design would be more than enough!

Just do whatever is fun.

I made about 55 cards in total - 3 different "templates." If I were making more than that, I'd do the Christmas Card Challenge and do 10+ a month. Of course, now that I'm finished with my cards (and have been for a while) I'm been drawn to making Christmas cards.

I have about 50 done so far, about 15 different designs. I make anywhere from 2-10 of the same design and then get bored and move on. I'll make at least another 50 before I'm finished. This is about the time of year that I really get in the mood to crank them out - our weather just finally turned chilly (yeah, I know, you northern ladies have no sympathy). I definitely get more in the mood to make Christmas cards when it's 40 degrees than when it's 80!

I'm saving myself a lot of 'stress' and lack of appreciation for my work. Only immediate family gets a handmade card. The rest will get our Christmas letter on cute stationery, but that's it. I hate to spend time on something that's just going to be tossed.

I'm working on mine now and hope to make 60 in the next week. I'm making a few designs, maybe 15 each of four designs but each one will be a little bit different within those four designs.

Unfortunately, we can't do that with SU!

Stampin' Up! doesn't allow one to scan or photocopy the image or paper for mass production, either electronically or mechanically. Each item has to be hand-stamped.

MOST companies don't allow this either, including one of the companies used in BH's Christmas card...wonder if she got permission?

I'm usually done by now but didn't take my Christmas stamps with me to NC this year so was behind a bit when we got back to FL the first of Nov. I have about 8-10 prototypes made; now need to get down to business and make another 6-8 of each one. I think I may have some left over from last year so will pull them out and see if I still like them enough to send.

But even if she had permission ... she's promoting doing something that most companies don't allow ... without a disclaimer to check each company. Not cool, in my view...

Isn't that a concern when SELLING something? That's specifically what an angel policy is for typically...when SELLING something. I'm not planning on selling my Christmas cards...and I doubt Becky did either.

From SU's website:
  1. Each craftwork created for sale must be personally and individually hand-stamped by the selling artist and may not be reproduced or copied in any form by any means, graphic, electronic, or mechanical, including photocopying. Mass production, assembly-line construction, production by workers for hire, or syndication of hand-stamped craftwork for sale is strictly prohibited.
  2. All of Stampin' Up!'s images are copyrighted, which means that they may not be copied without permission. To help protect the rights granted by these copyrights, all craftwork created for sale using Stampin' Up! images must be marked with one of the images from the official Stampin' Up! Limited License stamp sets shown in the Idea Book & Catalog.

I am done with my cards this year! I made about 60 - all are different, although some are similar. Some I spent a lot of time on - some are quite simple.

OK, if we want to talk abot a LOT of cards to make, I think I win
I was asked by my supervisor's supervisor to make 350 cards for our management team to send out to clients on 07NOV2007. DD & I finished assembling all of the handstamped sections on Friday night & dropped everything off last night. Yes, it was a lot of work to finish in 2.5 weeks, but very rewarding to do it all by hand

Oh, & these were above & beyond the 120 I made for her to give out internally

One last point, I will NOT do 350 of the same design ever again! DD & I now claim to hate pine cones, pine boughs, green, brown, & ivory :P

This is my first year in many, many years that i have not made any cards.
It is my husbands 50th year graduation at his High School and he offered my services to stamp/emboss 113 post cards in a winter seasons greetings theme. It was for informational purposes. Well after embossing all the cards in gold, I could not face doing another card. I really made around 132 but some wern't just up to muster and had to be tossed.
So, I am having hip surgery in February and hope to move my stamp room to the sun room upstairs and that I can get my cards done early this year.
We Will See!!!

Yup, you win!!! That's a lot of cards to make!!! Aren't you glad it is done???

It's not just where sales are concerned. Long before SU had an angel policy, we were told that mechanical reproduction (which is what scanning and copying is) was not allowed.

Last year was the first year I made all my Christmas cards. I mass produced the same card, but flipped the colors. This year I started making my cards in July. I made at least 6 cards a month. 3 of 2 designs. I did a Christmas card class every month so I made the same ones(and the leftovers from the no-shows). It felt good to get them done early. And I don't hate them.

For over seven years I have made Christmas cards. I noticed last year that I didn't have as much joy as I was designing and making the cards. This year whenever I thought about it I felt it was a chore. So, I allowed myself to skip a year.....had a picture taken of our family on Thanksgiving, had them made at a local photo shop and have them home and ready to address. I also wrote a letter and will put a few easy decorations on the paper. With the time I didn't spend on cards, I am spending decorating mini-composition books, hershey nugget boxes and some other little presents for my closest friends. I feel relieved!!!!

Thanks. I just thought I'd been hearing that forever. I mean, the whole point is "hand made" cards. Anybody can use a xerox machine.

I have about 50 cards done. I have two main cards that I produced 15 of each (using Season of Joy square greeting and poinsettas). Then I have some retired card fronts from last year that I turned into cards. I also played around with a few designs with Season of Joy tree. I usually need about 60, but am excited to make more. I just ordered Dashing paper so I think I will make some more when the paper arrives. They will be simple, but cute. I suggested to DH that he could address the envelopes since I made the cards and will coordinate the family picture and printing once our tree is up. He typed all addresses in Access for me to make labels. Good for him and together we can seal, stamp and adhere labels.

Default xmas cards

I know what you mean about the cards. I always start out with the best intentions. I'll think to myself that this is a cool design and it won't take that long. HA! This year I bought some of the penguin stamps and they alllllll had to be colored in. All 80 of them. Then I thought that the inside looked too blank, even with the sentiment, so I stamped a different penguin on the inside. Then I thought that the envelope looked toooo, you know, white, so I stamped a different penguin on them. Of course, the penguins were all wearing scarves and earmuffs that cried out to be colored.... Then, of course, you can't put in all of that time and not sign them on the back, am I right? Do you see where I'm goin' with this? A simple project made exponentially more complicated because I keep adding these little extras that on one card, take hardly any time, but on 80..... Let's just say that they're done, but these puppies had better become cherished family heirlooms for all the time I have put inot them! I must say though, that I really enjoyed making them. THe stamping. The watercoloring especially. Best of all, I used stuff in my stash. The only thing that was purchased was the set of penguins. They're finished, now for the task of writing and sending....

Smile my first year making cards

This is my first Christmas making cards and I really enjoyed it but decided first off to make 4-6 different designs to see what I liked then picked 2 to make for everyone. I have one design I made just for my friends and one design I made for family so I'm going to on a post it on my Christmas card list on what design I sent to family and what I sent to friends then next year if I choose I can switch them if I have leftovers or just make more new designs to send. I'm glad I did it this way because I never got bored once. Happy Stamping !!!!! Beckaroni
