This is a question I've had for a while and am just getting around to asking....Why do you put music on your craft blog? I've toyed with putting some on our family one but did not in case someone surfs in the same circumstances I do.
I usually get to surf blogs either while we are watching a movie, DH is sleeping at night or when my kids are doing school. Numerous times I open a blog and music just starts to play. Either it wakes up DH or all of my kids glare at me like "Mom, where are you surfing?"
I am home tonight with my sick DD. She is watching a movie and I decided to sit down. I randomly clicked 4 blogs links from someone else's blog and guess what....I could not figure out which blog it was coming from, so I could not turn it off. I ended up closing all of the blogs and going back to laundry....:(
Just asking?

LOL... I have the same thing happen to me when I start opening blogs in other tabs. I usually try to remember to turn my speakers off before I read blogs since I tend to visit late at night when everyone is sleeping.
It annoys me when there's music on a blog. That's usually the end of my reading it. The only things that drive me crazier are animated cursors and light text on a dark background.
It always freaks me out because I'm not expecting it. Especially because I usually have a CD playing on my puter and then I think something's wrong with my speakers or my CD. I usually end up closing out the page, too, like one of the posters above because it freaks me out.
Totally black backgrounds with white text weirds out my eyes. That's another thing that makes me close out a page.

I have jumped a time or two when music blares unexpectedly when visiting blogs! I don't care for it - many times the music isn't really what I would listen to anyway. I usually have a CD or radio on because that is what I want to hear.
The music wouldn't be so bad for me if I could just figure out how to turn it off. Maybe it's just my computer, but sometimes the music keeps playing even after I close the blog window. And sometimes there will be like three different songs playing at the same time if I have visited multiple blogs!
I always have my sound muted so it doesn't bother me. I do have one blog that I read that has amazing music on it, so I'll open it and leave it open just for the tunes! She has awesome creaations too....shout out, Mercy!
Like Shannan there is one blog I visit that has music with really good songs on it so I will leave it open while I visit other blogs. If I don't like the music on a blog I just shut off the sound while I finish looking and then turn it back on when I close that blog if I am already listening to my own music.
I don't usually mind the blog music.
I confess, I am a blogger with music on my craft blog. One time I took it off and someone emailed me to ask where it went too.
Anyway, often music on blogs annoys me too believe it or not, but that wouldn't make me NOT go to a blog I liked. I just choose to turn their music player off, or turn down my speakers. It's easily done with a click of the mouse on their music player..that same click that you would make to leave the site for another because of the annoying music.
So anyway, to answer the question of why I put it on there? Cause I like it. For me, that music on my blog is the same music I stamp too....why not share it? But just for you (meaning those surfers who don't like it, not just the OP) and just for this week, I will have a music free crafting blog. :-D I'm sure I've caused people to jump when they've gone to my blog lol
I don't like music on blogs. For personal blogs, I guess it's okay since personal blogs are really a form of self expression. But definitely not for business blogs.
While I'm not a fan of blog music, I think that the whole point of a blog is to express yourself. So if music is important to the blogger, I can see why he or she would put music on a blog.

Hmmmmm, my initial response was to agree with the majority, that I really don't like blog music, but I think a truer statement would be that sometimes it's the actual music I don't like (because it's not "my" kind of music for whatever reason), rather than the fact that there is music there.
So, as Michelle says, if it's a business blog, maybe that should be a consideration for the blogger, knowing that your musical choice might discourage potential customers. If it's a personal blog, then it really is up to you because after all, it is your space
I don't have a huge problem with it, and if I really like the blog it doesn't stop me visiting (if I'm not that bothered about the content, I'm unlikely to visit again), but it definitely annoys me. When I'm reading blogs I am often either listening to my own music, or watching a DVD (possibly on my laptop too), so it is a little offensive.
Some of the widgets that play music have the option for the music not to start when the page loads, the user has to actually press the play button. That is far better.
I DVR my tv shows on my laptop and I'm usually watching them in the bottom corner of my screen when blurfing, so I don't like when I get to a blog with music. I usually just end up leaving that blog.

This is good to know that most of you do not care for it. I was thinking of adding music to my blog.
Why? Because I figured it would be nice to hear and set a mood as you get inspired.
I definately would have had it muted to begin with - you would have needed to press a button to start it and you could have chosen songs. It would have cost me $40 bucks to add it too - so if readers of blogs don't care for it I won't do it. It was for the reader...
I guess I usually have my speakers on high. I wander around the house all day and want to be able to hear if someone IMs me. So muting or turning the speakers off for me will not work.
Yes, I do appreciate when they have the players have the stop but first I have to find where they put them. I searched on the one I clicked last night and could not find a player on any of the 3 so, like I said, I missed out on reading any of them...:(

I just saw another thread with a poll about blog music. I'm so glad that I found both threads because I was thinking of adding music to my blog last night. I was actually researching for instructions. I may still try to figure out how it's done and then not do it for all the reasons stated above. I'm just one of those gals that "has to know how it's done." I guess that's a trait from my real job.
I do not like it. I usually surf while watching tv (or in a free moment at work!) and if a blog has music, I shut it down immediately, even if I was looking for something specific. It's just the way I am, I guess.

I agree with Joan, but I will say that personally I don't care to listen to music when I surf (I usually have my own on) so when I open a blog with music, I usually get startled and then just mute my speakers...) To each his/her own I say...

No, it's not just you. I would be the same way so it kind've suprises me that I would even consider putting music on my blog! What was I thinking? For that reason, I have my sound muted, but still not everyone does that. Even still I have to know how to do it!!
I study music. I will always be listening to a classical or opera piece while I'm surfing. I then hit a blog or website with music. There went all my studying out the window. Got to start over again. When I study music it's usually in weird areas. Not in the beginning.
I know that I'm not the norm in the group. I'm sure there are some other music students or scholars who are reading too.
I understand blogs are a form of self expression. My biggest pet peeve. Why the heck do I have to go looking all over the blog to turn off the music? You used to be able to hit the escape button & it would turn off. Now, I have to scroll down, up, sideways just to find the media player.
Chalk me up for not liking blog music either! It ALWAYS scares the bejeebees out of me, EVERY SINGLE TIME I end up on a blog with music! It usually turns me off the blog as well if they have it. Sorry to those that have it on theirs and might be feeling bad right now. Nothing against you, just don't like being SCARED every time it sneaks up on me!
I don't like it either - there is one blog I used to have bookmarked and her music player was crashing my browser so I can't visit her blog anymore. A lot of the others slow my browser right down too, plus it is annoying if I am already trying to listen to a CD on my PC and something else starts auto-playing over the top of it.
While I'm not a fan of blog music, I think that the whole point of a blog is to express yourself. So if music is important to the blogger, I can see why he or she would put music on a blog.
I must admit:
I don't like music that comes on automatically; I DO like the option to play it and listen.
I don't like white text on a black background; hard on my eyes
I don't like animated cursors; it always blocks my view from the very thing I'm trying to look closer at or read.
I don't like partial feeds, where I'm forced to leave the Reader I use, and visit the blog to get the entire entry
However, as you said, Joan: a personal blog is one's space of self-expression. If they were to conform it to appease readers, it would compromise the integrity of the blog itself.
With my own, I'm the one paying for it, and investing the time and energy to maintain it, so I'm not gonna conform it to anyone else's preferences and people will either have to take it or leave it, as is their choice. ;)
