How do you feel about being CASEd
How do you all really feel about someone copying your work? After making a Christmas card I realized it was just like one in the gallery that I had admired. I had decided I shouldn't post it since it wasn't original. I am fairly new and I am still learning from all of you wonderful stampers. It may be a long time before I come up with something totally original. What do you think? Should I post or not? Thanks.

I am flattered when CASE'd. If I CASE and post, I so note and generally include a link to the inspirational card!

I'm fine with it as long as I get credit for the design.

I see nothing wrong with CASING as long as it's not done for profit. Then I consider it theft. But if someone liked my card enough to reproduce it I'd be flattered. And I say go ahead and post it in the gallery as long as you give credit to the original artist.

I would consider it a total compliment if anyone cared to case my work. More than likely it would be a case of a case (I do my best to give credit to the original creator for the designs that inspire me and I then use).

I would also consider it a total compliment if someone cased me ... I would be smiling all day long! I agree though, gotta give credit to who you cased it from ... and in the case that you truly cannot remember who it was, list that in your description.

I would be absolutely delighted if someone cased one of my designs.
It really is a true compliment to someone, and you MUST post your art work in the gallery. Don't forget to give credit to the original designer tho.
Can't wait to see it !

If and when I CASE, when I upload it to the web I always credit the original artist out of gratitude/courtesy for sharing their inspiration.
It's just such a delightful warm fuzzy!

I agree with everyone else. That is the reason we are posting our creations anyway, to inspire others! As long as you don't say you came up with it with no inspiration at all and give credit if you recall which card(s) or creator(s) inspired you, then go for it!

What she said. And on a couple of occasions, I have PM'd the person I cased to thank her for the inspiration.

I found a Christmas card in the gallery by Holly Lisk and fell in love with it... so I copied it. When I posted it to my blog I mentioned this with a link back to her card. I think this is the proper etiquette.

I'm guilty of casing BUT when I post it, I always give credit where credit is due. When I see that someone has cased me....it gives me a warm feeling.
If it weren't for this site and the inspiration here, I wouldn't own what I do with Stampin UP and it's alot....sometimes I have no imagination.

I would LOVE to be cased...(not quite good enough for that yet...) I know when I was first starting and did a bit of CASING, I always tried to post that it was a CASE from so and so or inspired by whomever...just to give credit to the original creator...and YES...upload away...you have to start somewhere!

If it wasn't for CASEing I'd never get a card out. I need the inspiration. Heck for my x-mas cards I'm doing a straight up no-doubt-about-it bought-the-exact-stamp-set-so-I-could-match-it CASE. I'm not going to post it in my gallery here because it's the exact same thing and it'd be redundant but I will put it up on my blog with the explanation behind it and a direct link saying 'go here, this chickie rocks'. Full props to the woman who made my xmas just that much easier!

I dont know about you all, but when I post a card to the gallery and someone puts it in their favorites, I feel like I just won a prize!! It is totally flattering and I would be proud if anyone was to case me!! I do agree, that if you do it, give the person the credit they deserve. But give yourself credit too, more often times then not, you change something on the card, so you should get credit for the modification.

I have absolutely no problem with someone casing one of my cards. To me it is such a compliment. Like everyone here has said, I think it is wonderful when credit is given to the original stamper. It makes for one big happy family! I think casing is a huge huge compliment! I am honored when/if it happens!

I'm with all these ladies, what a compliment to be CASED. For me personally it was like a natural high! LOL! I had one time when a lady (very talented IMHO) was inspired by a card that I did. It made me soooooo happy I was actually giddy... for days! I'm smiling as I think about it now... please post your creations and when you mention their name or link their card you will probably be making someone very happy!

I would be delighted if someone case'd one of my cards (I only have 2 in my gallery so far but watch this space lol). I think you should post your card and put a link to the card you case'd it from so that the person gets credit for inspiring you. Good luck. I look forward to seeing your work.

I don't mind being cased, as long as the person mentions where they got the idea...
what I REALLY don't like is when someone who stamps with you, and who is a demo for a competing company COPIES your entire stamp camp flyer word for word and sends it out to all HER customers (several of whom are shared customers)... (Yes, this just happened to me.)
I don't mind sharing ideas and inspiration, but have the decency to at least change it up a bit when using someone elses advertising!

I love to teach my techniques. That is why I always try to give complete and clear instructions on how I create a project...whether here on my gallery upload or on my blog. I am thrilled when someone cases my card as it not only gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling when someone loves my project enough to case...but that they may have gotten some good points from me on the technique itself. With all that said I do believe it is proper etiquette to give credit to the person and project that has inspired what you have chosen to case. I do regular gallery searches on 'kittie, kittie747, kitty747, and Kittie Cards" to seek out people who may be trying scene cards, winter and snow cards, etc so that I can comment on their work. If you give proper credit....your work can be found in the search.
Happy casing to you all as we sure have a huge amount of talent on this site. While your at it today...you could go to the Featured Stamper Challenge and check out one of our wonderful artists, Papermoon04. She has a gallery filled with inspiration.

Great question, I have wondered that myself. I too would be delighted if anyone thought enough of my work to duplicate it! I have also made cards that I have seen on here somewhere and then couldn't locate it again to give the person credit who inspired me. It happens, and I wouldn't be upset if I didn't get the credit. I'm just not like that. I do try my best though to add a link to the original card with credit and a big thanks

When I case someone, I include a link to their card and note that it is cased.
If I were to be cased, I wouldn't care if they noted it was cased from me specifically as long as they didn't try to pass it off as their own idea. It would be nice though to get a PM to check out how I inspired someone else.

I believe it is an honour to be cased and given a bit of the credit. I do think that many of us often have the "same" ideas so I would never get "bent out of shape" if someone had a card that looked like mine but didn't give me credit! ... I know I've made a card that I thought was original just to look at another card and say - hey, that's the same idea I had. I also think that if I post a card, it is free game to be cased ... if I didn't want anyone to copy the idea, then I shouldn't bother putting it in my gallery!
I always give credit where credit is due, even if it is just the "knot" idea. I think that is just the right thing to do.
Enjoy your stampin' and casing LOL

I saw a card i sent someone last year for Christmas. A few weeks back i saw it on her blog as her own design. Everyone was telling her how great and clever she was. oh well live and learn.

Now, that IS naughty. On the plus side, at least you know that it is your design that is great, therefore, you are the clever one.

What exactly does CASE stand for? I got the meaning, but wondering what the acronym is...
BTW, I would be flattered!!! Credit or not... Personally, I try not to copy, but to learn what works and what doesn't by looking around.
My favorite blogger: Debbie Olson.
Thanks!

Well, there are two ways of interpretting the acronym... one is copy and SHARE everything (which is the one I prefer), the other is copy and steal everything...
Obviously the first one has a nicer ring to it

I think this is proper etiquette. I usually post the link back as well- I feel so bad though I just posted a ton of cards and I forgot to post the link or even mention its a CASE. Im feeling pretty crummy....
