It's a U.S. link and I was wondering if anyone had seen a Canadian preview?
I sure hope they adjust the Canadian prices to be fair. The current mark up between the U.S. and Canadian price is unreasonable. Nowadays most magazine retailers here in Canada even honor the U.S. price in Canada - hopefully Stampin Up with get the message too!
Again, it's a bit of a joke for Canadians. The "special" to get a free stamp set in Jan. as a hostess is $525 for Canadians and US $350 - 1.5 times as much in Canada. SU can't use the excuse that they didn't have time to make the change or that there are other costs of doing business in Canada, so they can't decrease the prices. I don't know if I am the only one, but this seems ridiculous.
CTMH has reduced all pricing effective Jan. 1st and have also reduced the hostess $ levels. If they can do it, SU could do it if they really wanted to. I know for certain, that my SU purchases are going to be reduced to my $25 requirement each month (for a Stampers' 10) and nothing more. I would prefer to spend my $ on Bellas, Gina K Designs, PaperTrey, Hanna Stamps, etc. where I know I am cared about as a customer and not being taking advantage of because I live North of the border!
Thanks for the link! I like the DP, but I too am one that can't believe the price difference between Canada and USA. It's actually cheaper for my US friend to buy and then ship to me...crazy!!

Thanks for the Canadian link!! And it does look like the prices have come down in Canada a little bit (example - the DP, which I agree is gorgeous is down to 12.50 a pack versus 13.50 in the current catalog). I guess change comes a step at a time.
You know I think that this site is one of the best things that could happen to any stamping company - and Stampin Up is the largest recipient of promotion here, whether it be paper or stamps, etc. I hope that the company supports the site and cares about what people here think. (I'm sure they do care...I think overall it is that sort of company).
This thread was the first time I put a question out there - thanks for everyone's contributions and responses!!
The cost of doing business in Canada is ridiculously higher than in the states but for me to have to pay $7.00 difference for a stamp set I would like is not very fair. I would still buy the inks and cs but I am rethinking spending any more on stamps sets unless I really really have to have them from now on.
This "cost of business" doesn't fully make sense to me. We pay provincial taxes and the GST. We also pay shipping and handling on this amount. I looked at the first set in the preview brochure. There is a $6 difference (I believe) in the same set. Is it really THAT worth an approximate 29% mark-up? I don't know much about the "cost of business" in Canada; as a consumer, it just doesn't add up right to me. (If anyone can explain better, I'd love to know)
In terms of the 'cost of doing business in Canada', I'm sure there are special filings that U.S. companies have to do to do business in Canada - cross border returns, brokerage firms to get product across the border without hangup etc...so I understand that part - but do agree that the gap in prices is much wider than that would account for. Still - at least they are moving in the right direction!
I really like 'A beautiful thing' from the preview (and 'embrace life' is nice too). The beautiful thing set seems to be priced fairly reasonably compared to similar sets in the current catalog
The designer paper is just down one dollar which is the dollar that it went up from 2006-2007 catalog. Really doesn't take into account the value of our Canadian currency over the last year. At this point I am very discouraged and I can't see myself shopping with Stampin Up much in the new year. I just can't justify it and that's from a Canadian in Europe who has very limited resources for craft supplies; no Michael's 40% off coupons for me!
I used to manage a clothing store (an outlet, actually) for a Canadian designer store. They would only send merchandise one way...to us. Nothing was ever returned to Canada because of the ridiculous costs (customs was just one!) involved in getting them back to Canada. We were bursting at the seams with boxes of out-of-season clothes going back years because of this. And this was a Canadian company.
I think the costs for a foreign company doing business in Canada are set very high by the Canadian government. I think there are fees involved over and beyond just shipping, customs, etc., that companies are having to pay to be IN Canada doing business. That's different from companies that operate in the US and ship to Canada. It's tough to compare the two. I do think that's key, though. Stampin Up actually has facilities in Canada. I don't know about any of the other companies, although I'm fairly sure the smaller ones, Gina, PaperTrey, etc. do not.
Everybody makes their own decisions on how they wish to spend money, of course. Buy what you like and ENJOY what you buy. This is all supposed to be fun...
Wow this a real disappointment. I was thinking of becoming a demo in Jan. Now I don't think so. Paper $18.95 U.S. $23.95 Can.
Stamp set $25.95 U.S. #32.95 Can.
I was hoping that the prices would go down alot because of the stronger dollar here in Canada.
I realize there are most costs to doing business in Canada, but CTMH has the same costs. Their markup is going to be reduced to only 10% come Jan. 1. I don't think SU is willing to make the change.
Another Canadian disappointed in the prices. I'll keep my comments on that for another thread though!
Given my thoughts on the prices, I think I am glad that there is nothing in this preview catalogue that says "have to have" to me. Most of the sets just aren't my style, although I do like the valentine one.

Paper $18.95? For the DSP? It's $9.95....unless we're talking about two different things.
As for shipping, in the US it's 10% plus your tax. Like our local tax here is 6.5%. If you do a CUSTOMER order and spend less than $30 it's $3.95.
I'm in love with the new DSP.
You are right, paper $9.95 U.S. $12.50 Canadian. I was looking at a stamp set for 18.95 U.S. $23.95 Can. The price was in the middle, and I didn't look close enough. guess that's how story get started, thanks for letting me know.
Did you guys notice what it says on page 7, "Don’t Miss It: Add texture to your
projects with textured card stock, available in color family assortments." Woooooo hooooo! love that!
I'm crazy for that ginger blossom paper and the Embrace Life and Celebrate Everything!
Yea! Thanks for posting. It takes so little to make me happy.
