I personally prefer to use glue stick with a bead of Scotch Brand Quick Dry around the perimeter. It just makes way less of a mess and works great. I also find it stays adhered longer.

I you are using a spiral bound journal, rip out one sheet of paper and use it as a guide to punch the same holes, then, make a tiny snip from the holes to the edge of the paper. Then adhere down, slipping those little slits over the spirals. It makes a fool proof journal cover....no one knows how you did it!

Here's one I did. It's a Christmas list journal.
