Default SU! in Germany

Hi there,

today I got a copy of the catalogue. It is still 'secret' until the 15th. But I can tell you this much: it has 96 pages, will cost 8.95 Euros and has a little bit of everything inside. There is a total of 88 stamp sets ranging from 14.95 Euros for 'All Wrapped Up Accessories' to 62.95 Euros for 'Daily Flexible Phrases'. Some sets are available in German, English and French. There are 7 jumbo wheels and 4 standard stampin wheels in the catalogue and 8 different sets of 12x12 papers.
1 Euro is about 1.30 US$, so now you can calculate how much more we will have to spend for each set of stamps.

Holy Cow Ramona, how many people will be able to afford stamp sets that cost that much! I dug out a money converter on the web and figured out 62.95 Euros was $92 US! Now at that price - that's a true love of stamps!

But then again, what is the min wage in Germany? Do the workers get paid more than in the US and is the cost of living more in Germany than the US? I know a lot of factors play into it - but to me it still comes out quite expensive to by stamps there!

Kathy - who will be thinking about you each time she sees the cost of a SU stamp set from now on!

Sorry, since we are selfemployed (DH and I run a dairy farm), I can't really tell you how much the average German gets paid. I asked my sister, and she said, that it is about 1,400 Euros (that is what you get, all taxes, insurance etc. already deducted). Food is much less expensive here than in the US (of course, with the stron Euro, it may not actually be like this anymore) but fuel is horrendous! right now we pay 5.70 Euros ( 8.30$)per gallon for fuel and 5.10 Euros (7.40 $) for diesel...

WOW!!! It is amazing how the prices of things differ in other countries. I thought our fuel prices were high!
I guess most people will be buying 1 set at a time. Thats all I could do with those prices. I still think it is high but them again as mentioned it may be comparable per the factors that playing it.

How exciting to be one of the first to get the new catalog in a brand new market!!! If you haven't joined already, there is an SU! demo forum on this site. You'll get lots of great ideas there too!

It costs more than $1 to mail a letter in Germany too. I hate it when I hear Americans complaining about gas and postage. We don't know how good we have it! Stamps too!

Ramona,

just an F.Y.I... the euro is up to over $1.40 now - ouch! (Ask me how I know... we get paid in dollars and shop in euros...)

Hope you get many, many workshop requests, and yes, as soon as you get your demo ID, sign up for the demo side of SCS.

Oh, and what are the `All Wrapped Up Accessories? Are you allowed to tell?

Hi Ramona

Is the same catty we will be getting in the UK or are there many different ones for Europe?
We are upset that it looks like they have just changed the $ to a for us in the uk, yipe the rate is $2/. Shame, but I am sure I will still buy, there is some lush stash that I just have to have.

The catalogue is online. Now all of you can see it. It seems, there is one catalogue for Germany, France and the UK, because it says on the website, that we can sell the stamps within those three countries.

I'm gutted - no Word Window Punch!

Thanks for the link to the German catty Ramona! I've just flicked through and I am so disappointed that the Word Window Punch isn't in there - I was hoping to make that one of my first UK SU! purchases.

Looks like we don't get In Colours either.

There are quite a few sets that are retired in the U.S. and a couple of sets I've never seen before. I was especially surprised to see a cute 'drink' set of 6 stamps (p. 35) like so many of us have been wanting. So much for the owners being Mormon I guess!

Did anyone notice that Heartfelt Thanks is a hostess set in the link above? I wonder if that's an indication that it will soon be retiring for us?
Also, is Nature's Wonders a new set? It's VERY pretty.... I hope we get it in January!

Maybe it will be in the Spring/Summer catty for us (fingers crossed - eyes squeezed really tight)...I hope so - I have a set similar that that came on a cube (from Wally World) and would love to have one to use that is SU

When the Austrailia one came out they had a few sets that we didn't have and they showed up in our catty...

and what is Rhapsody in Dutch...since I don't speak it...is it similar to something we already have?

I like how in the Occasionally set they have My "Mum"

Actually, it is Rhapsody in Deutsch (German), not Dutch. the stamps say:

Always all the best for your little darling
Luck and Blessings wherever you go
I wish you a happy party
...again, many thanks.
With deepest sympathy
Happy Birthday
Get well soon
You are always in my thoughts

(((Ramona))) Thank you so much for posting the link to the german catty. I tried to find it online yesterday and today and could not.

The catalog is awesome!! Wish I lived there .
I really really hope we will be getting that drink set (if not I might have to ask my brother over there to get it for me).
I am jealous to see silent night in the catalog. I missed my chance to get it when it was available here.

Awesome catalog!!

My parents just got back from Germany (we lived there for 4 years) and were telling us about the cost difference. They went to lunch one day and their friends thought it was a "affordable" place. Guess they didn't double check first because lunch turned out to be 150 usd per person and there were 4 couples there. OUCH!

I really feel for you guys. Needless to say my parents did a little less Christmas shopping then they would be doing. We all had our German requests now I wonder what I am getting lol.

I became a UK demo today. YAY ME

The prices are expensive, they are basically charging us in what the Americans pay in $ ?(let's not forget the $2 1), that said it's the going rate for crafting items here. Germany Holland and France, perhaps because of the language difference have a lot more home grown produce.

I was upset that Heartfelt Thanks was a hostess set. It's Level 2 as well, which right now as I am starting out seems such a high target.

Happy Heart is right a lot of our sets are retired (and I think I was told Heartfelt Thanks was retired in the USA) the pro is there are lots of ideas for them already out there, and it's not that they are selling left overs just sets that have sold as many as they will in the USA.

The cost of living in Europe is higher, expecially in the UK, that's why you see so many of us in your malls at this time of year, it's cheaper to take a flight and shop there if you are buying any high end gifts.

BUT as I said, I am so excited I have been jumping up and down all day.

I have to admit I am sooo jealous!!! I've looked for nice German-language stamps and couldn't find any I really liked. I just now looked thru the SU catty, and those are lovely--many of them. BUT...I won't be buying them in Euros, or at those prices, or with the international shipping of wood. ;-( My German mom would love for me to make her sets of cards.

Now, if TAC would just do some German ones I'd be set. ;-)

For me the prices are way too high in euros! It is cheaper for me to shop SU in the USA than in the UK or Germany. I think they make a big mistake with that because there is a large stampmarket and a lot of european brands as well!

While the dollar doesn't buy many Euros right now, so the price conversion is high, don't forget that the published price in Euros includes the 19% VAT.

We Americans are accustomed to tax being added to an order - not included in the marked price. So even if the conversion was equal, prices in Germany would necessarily list at least 19% higher because of tax.

I'm very happy for you to have this opportunity in Europe. Good luck!
