My niece will be turning two years old in January, and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could make for her. I am sure most people will be giving her the usual toys, clothes, etc. I just wanted to think of something unique and cute that I could do for her. I would love to hear what you think!!
I've altered small lunch tins for both boys and girls in that age range. They can be used for crayons or snacks. You just have to make sure there are no little parts that they can pull off, all embellishments should be flat and sealed with Mod Podge ( I learned that from my own grandsons).

You could make her a name frame using stamped letters or chipboard letters and decorated with stamps and embellishments. She'll probably be learning the letters of her name soon if she isn't already.
If you have time and the desire, you could make her a personalized A-B-C book with pictures of her family and things she likes. I made an 8x8 A-B-C scrapbook for my niece and nephew a few years ago and the still love it and look at it to this day.
Or if you're any good at sewing/crochet/knitting, you could make blankets for her stuffed animals or dolls.
I have gotten the littlest ones from Target in the $ spot. Joann carries them once in a while in the $ bins, they are a little bigger than the Target ones.

You could make a laminated picture book for her, using pictures of mom & dad, siblings, grammas, grampas, aunts and uncles, friends, pets. Just make sure the laminated pages you round the corners so they arent sharp!!

A "People Who Love Me" album!!! I've been meaning to make one for my little girl (she turns 2 in March!).
Instead of laminating the pictures, just get the name badges from Walmart (I think you get 12 name badges for $1.67) and then attach them with the binder rings (they are sold in the same area). Like Gwen, I would suggest an ABC album. I made these for all 3 of my kids using a few pictures and then stickers (kids love stickers and that thrilled me since I have a huge stash that I seldom use for scrapbooking). My boys are 7 and still love looking at their ABC albums.
I have a two year old, right over there <---------- and I altered a little mini lunch box from her ( I got them from Target and have seen them at Joanns). Inside I put some crayons and post-it notes. Its the best thing. I keep it in my bag and whip it out when we are stuck somewhere (in the waiting room of an office, etc).
I also have made the ABC books. I did the 3x3 pages and then took them to the local teacher's store and got them laminated. You probably don't have time, but I took pictures of her with ABC items (A-eating an apple, S-wearing silly sunglasses, F-playing with her Fisher Price farm) and then stamped the letter. She adores it. I have made this for her cousins, too.

If you go to her blog, you'll see the one she did with the numbers 1-10 and punched shapes for each of the numbers. Super cute and I suspect would go together pretty fast and easy.
If you sew, a busy book is very fun. My BFF's son played with the one his grandmother made him for years. They usually have buttons to button, zippers, things to pull out of pockets, etc.
My mom made a scrapbook for my neice when she was 2 and lived across the country. She found a 6x6 book that held the pages in really well (wasn't top loading) and did a scrapbook for her with a page for each family member. She loved it and used to flip through it dozens of times a day.
