So yesterday I was working on a very detailed card. Usually I make very simple cards, but I am trying to get better and I was trying to make a card with lots of detail. It was turning out beautifully. I was very pleased. I had multiple layers, designer paper, corner details, brads, sponging, colouring with coloured pencils, markers and chalk. When it was all done, I thought, maybe I will put some stickles on the snow to give it some sparkle....and I ruined it. I have use a classic pad of basic black, and when I put stickles over the lines for the ground, it turned into slush. The ink ran and turned the glue of the stickles black. I tried carefully removing the stickles by scraping it off (it had not dried yet) but the ink underneath was all smeared and instead of nice white snow, my snowmen were on a black blob. Boo hoo.
Has anything like this happened to you? What ink should I use from now on to prevent this?
I have, and I hate it. You never know what reaction ink will have to Stickles until you test it. Same thing with Crystal Effects. Of course it's always the last thing you use on the card or project because it has to dry. I've learned by experience, too! Sorry this happened to you. Could you maybe cover it up with some liquid applique or white puffy paint?

I've done the same thing with Real Red just recently. I've only used it with StazOn since, but plan on experimenting with my other inks (Brilliance, Ancient Page, Memories, VersaFine, and VersaMagic).

Stazon is not water soluble. Before you tried to take the stickles off-were you being overly critical? Maybe when it dried it wouldn't have been so bad. OR could you have covered the worst with a snowflake or ribbon? I have done that to cover an oops. I've also pulled off the offending layer and replaced it. Would love to see your final product when you try again.
Actually I tried to do a cover-up first by sprinkling white chalk dust into the stickles. It wasn't pretty. I would have done liquid applique or puffy paint if I had some, but I didn't. I did rip off the offending layer and I am trying to re-do it...but, with no stickles!
Can you just re_stamp the snow man and pop him up with dimensional foam to cover up the booboo or is it not possible with your scene? I'm sorry it happened to you. It sounds like a lovely card. I am the queen of booboos and find ways to rescue cards. Maybe this will help.

Can you use a white puff paint or something similar to give dimension and cover up the slush. Before it dries completely you could add glitter. You would end up with dimension and glitter.
Another thought since you don't have liquid applique, grab some Liquid Paper Correction Fluid and create snow with it. Please experiment on a separate sheet first.

You people are all so smart. I just started over. Next time I will have to post here before I do anything drastic.
Yeah, I'd do white liquid applique or something to cover it up. I've had that same experience with the dye black inks. It's palette all the way for me now! BTW, any wet ink will smear. If you're adding something wet like stickles, make sure your ink is totally dry, even if you're using palette or stazon. Doesn't hurt to run a heat gun over it. Good luck!

Oh how frustrated you must have felt!! I got stressed out just reading your post. I have to agree with the others on using Palette ink. I now have all of the spots plus a regular size black. That's the only black ink pad I've been using lately (and I think I have quite a few brands).

Here is the card now that it is re-done. I actually did use the liquid paper, and then put the stickles over top once it was dry (tested this method first on scrap paper:rolleyes: ). You can still see some smudging if you look carefully, but I will actually be able to use it now. Christmas mistake re-do by marsha1268 at Splitcoaststampers
