Tips for Adhering Designer Paper to..
cardstock. I am making gift-card holders for the teachers for the holidays. I want to attach some pretty DP to my cardstock but when I used glue, it made little bubbles through the paper. Anyone have any tips on how to attach DP so it will have a smooth finish over the cardstock?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I use double-sided tape. Cheaper than my nice adhesive I use for scrapbooking.

I've always used an SU glue stick or the 3M Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive. Never had a problem with bubbles. Hope that helps!

I use double sided tape, too, but I have heard that if you glue, you might want to run your brayer over the paper to 'rub out' any bubbles. I haven't tried it myself, just what I've heard. HTH

Ok, I have never used double-sided tape. Are you refering to that thin red tape that I hear about? Or is there a special brand that you all use?

I use scotch brand double-sided tape. I got a package of I think 4-5 for under $10 at Sam's Club. I'm not so sure it's acid free, so I strictly use it for my cards and not my scrapbooks.  |

I'm with Laura............I can't live without Scotch Brand double sided tape in the yellow and black plaid tape holder. I LOVE IT! Been using it for about 10 years. Don't like glue stick because things fall off or come apart. Not so with the double sided tape.

I use Tombo Mono Multi (the green and white bottle). I use the pen tip applicator side. You don't need too much to get amazing results. A thin line of glue along the edge. It doesn't stick right away, so you have a couple of seconds to reposition it to make the layers even. LOVE it!

I'm a fan of Scotch Double Stick tape as well as the ATG gun. Both work extremely well for cards.

I typically use Paper Cement by Bestine. I buy it at Michael's (love those coupons). It's typically found on the bottom shelf in the adhesive aisle. Red metal cans. This product looks similar to rubber cement, but it lasts forever. I have some cards my SIL made a while back and she uses rubber cement - they typically fall apart. I know my cards made with paper cement last as I have some I made a few years ago and they are still holding well.
You can buy a small can with brush attached to the lid and there is also a larger refill can. I have been using this product for years and just love it. If I get the adhesive on the card, I just let it dry and rub it off with my finger. It pills up and does not stain. The seal is smooth and when it dries it is amazing. The best part is you have some wiggle room after you first apply it. You can move the cardstock around for a while before it dries completely.
Don't get me wrong, I love double-sided tape and use it often. I also like 3M Quick Dry adhesive. Each adhesive has its uses, but overall, I use the Paper Cement most of the time in card making.
Apologies to the Tombow users, but I have never had luck with this product and refuse to purchase it. I just don't think it lasts long enough, but it is probably the user and not the product. ;)

Regardless of which adhesive you select, burnish, burnish, burnish. Burnishing can be done with the side of a charge card, the side of a craft stick, Scratch Art rubbing Stick, a furniture glider, or a smooth bottle cap (see http://paperfriendly.blogspot.com/20...sydoes-it.html ).
If using a liquid, gel or glue stick, apply sparingly...many adhesives do not work as intended if the application is thick. Glue stick is one of those...and glue stick MUST be burnished.
Allow the adhesive to cure...even tape has a cure time.

Some one gave me some of this I think. It looks like to tombow sort of, with a red handle. I am having a hard time getting it to come off evenly, maybe I go to slow. it adheres well, but Im not very coordinated with it. I have been using glue sticks, not sure the brand, just what ever was cheapest by the crafts at walmart. I have not had elmer's or the like hold very well. I find if I put it on evenly and then smooth after applying I dont get bubbles. But its messy since I like to make sure my edges are completly covered. |

Another vote for Scotch brand double sided tape. It holds layers together yet if you make a mistake you can carefully pull things apart and try again.

Scotch double-sided tape isn't a tape runner. It looks just like regular scotch tape on the plastic dispenser, or you can get it on rolls to use with a permanent tape dispenser. It has a super strong hold and is photosafe, atleast the kind I have is. HTH! |

I've come from a scrapping background, and used to use herma, but it's not really the best thing. Following advise from the ladies on this board,I've started to use DST, but it's so unforgiving if you don't put it in the right place first time! My dream adhesive would be a repo DST, which became permanent with a wave of a wand LOL.

Well, I spent a lot of time trying all the differnt glues I had to see which would hold, not bubble, not make the chipboard warp, etc. The best glue I found to use is.....Martha Stewart Glittering Glue!
It holds, no bubbles, no warp - nothing! This is GREAT GLUE!!!

Karen, I'm intrigued. Did you find the Martha Stewart Glittering Glue at Michaels? Was it expensive?
