Default Stamping and Blogging, General Questions

Hi All, I hope that I am posting this to the right place in order to stay within the structure for SCS. I have many questions that I would like to ask someone about stamper blogs and how to get started as well as setting up a gallery on SCS and growing in the stamping world, getting published and becoming design team members, etc.
I have been stamping/scrapbooking for many years but have not been able to take off and grow with the many talented stampers that are out there. I want to establish a gallery as well as a blog and start getting some of my artwork out there. I follow so many SCS galleries as well as so many blogs and am truely inspired by all the FANTASTIC work out there.
Would there be anyone out there that might help me learn about blogs and how to advance in the stamping world? I would like to have someone that wouldn't mind "holding my hand" so to speak in order to learn more about the in's and out's and all the "rules" of blogging and posting artwork.
Thank you.

Well, the only one I can help you with is setting up an SCS gallery. If you have a scanner or a digital camera, you are good to go!

I would recommend www.blogspot.com for starting your first blog. It is very easy to set up with lots of built in templates. Just follow the instructions and you are ready to go!! I would suggest a digital camera or good scanner to get started. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I would love to check it out once you get going. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me. I have been blogging for 1 year now and have a gallery on here for years.

Good luck!

Considering the value of the information, and the extensive time that would be involved, I would sincerely advise you to hire a creative career consultant.

There are some free-lance creative career consultants out there who provide exactly the type of service you are asking for. It may seem expensive, but, in all honesty, their insights, experience, and knowledge are well worth their fees.

HTH and good luck to you!

The best thing to do is to just start and learn as you go. Typepad.com is a great one to start out with or blogspot.com

Thank you ladies, I appreciate all your tips. I will definately search out typepad.com and I already began looking under blogspot.com. Just having a hard time learning how to put it all together and attach links, etc.
Also, appreciate the creative career consultant, I will have to do some searching and see what I can come up with.

Just curious... I had never heard of a "creative career consultant"? Is it exclusively for stamping? How do you find them? I'm not looking to do stamping as a "career" right now, but I'm just curious about these consultants and what they do! Sounds like a fun job!

I started with typepad.com and have really been working on my blog to bring it up the speed. Sometimes it's hard with a 1 1/2 year old who's figured out how to turn off your computer in the middle of a post. It's funny, but I'm not really laughing.

I don't know if John Sanpietro considers himself a "creative career consultant", but I know he works with stamping business owners to take their business to the next level. It might be worth looking into. www.stampingismybusiness.com

John is holding a "blogger's bootcamp" right now. It's too late to participate in this session, but definitely check out his website. If he has a lot of interest, who knows, he may offer another bootcamp.

I started my stamping blog 1,5 year ago, and I'm learning something new every day. The best way is just to start a blog, and learn as you go. If you have questions, just ask them, a lot of stampers/bloggers are willing to help.
It should be fun

I started a blog over a year ago and finally made my first post to it last night. I uploaded some pictures on it also.

I guess I have been afraid of doing it because of the time involved but hope to learn how the whole thing works. I too am reading every post I can to try and find good tips and suggestions.

someday I will be comfortable with it like all the "top-notch" bloggers out there

I'm still far from computer savvy, but having a blog has taught me a lot. Plus, I find I stamp more for fun so that I can share on my blog. I think that's probably one of the biggest benefits!

I never realized there were so many stampers with blogs until I found this site. Is this a requirement for Stampin' Up demos? (sorry if that's not the right term - I don't know much about the company yet - but I love all the stamps I've seen used in the cards in the galleries).

No, it's not a requirement, but as you saw, a lot of demos have blogs. We also (again not a requirement) have websites through SU!, but blogs are a little easier to update. Plus people can leave comments if they so desire.

Cool! I've really learned alot the past couple of weeks looking at the different blogs. It's very inspiring - I've made more cards the past two weeks than I've made all year.

Looks wonderful, Sophie (that's my grandmother's name...so pretty!). I know I'll be checking back. And your drawing...my goodness, you should have them made into stamps! The work you do is absolutely delightful, and definitely the type I would purchase...very whimisical!

I really appreciate all the posts with the advice and tips on creating a brand new blog. I have created my blog but have no idea how people locate it or how to include with my signature so that people can link to it. I was also wondering how to add links to other bloggers, websites, etc that I enjoy visiting. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks again, it is very nice to know that there are so many others who share a love for crafting that is willing to help out.

Start leaving comments on other blogs, that's a good way to be "found" by other bloggers.

For the signature, go to "quick links" (above this thread, on the right) and scroll down to "edit signature". Then in the edit box, type in (without the spaces) [ u r l = your blog's address ] what you want people to see ("my blog, etc.") [ / u r l ]

I had to type that with spaces in it, otherwise it would have shown up as a link.

(To get your blog's address, open up another browser window and go to your blog. Then copy and paste the address.)

Rhonda, my blog is a typepad blog and I have to say that so far, I've been very pleased with it. It's fairly easy to navigate, but you just have to play with it till you get it just the way you want it. I feel like I'm constantly learning new things about it! Have fun!!!

Another Typepad lover--I have Typepad Pro Level--Love it!

They have great online help section already built, and a great "help ticket" system if you need someone on their staff to assist you! They have responded back to me personally every time I've submitted a request for help. Altho, usually, after I did, I found it in the help resources . . .

Typepad.com is worth every penny, IMHO!

If you need blog consulting services prior to even getting started and once you do get started, try Michelle Laycock.

Michelle created the very first stamping blog in history!

I have typepad too and love it. I have found that blogging has actually gotten me to stamp more. I used to spend more time looking at other people's blogs and ideas here on SplitCoast than I did stamping. By the time I found a fun idea that I wanted to try, the baby would wake up and my stamp time would be over and I didn't make one thing!

Now I'm happy to say that it's changing. I'm spending a lot more time stamping and actually using all this stuff that I bought.

Thanks! Julie, of course I LOVE your blog. After seeing Michelle post on SUDSOL I have asked her to do my banner and watermark (before even getting my blog going) - I'm excited to hear someone else recommend her. Dannie, I'm like you - I spend so much time looking at all these beautiful blogs and SCS galleries that I never do my own stamping. I'm hoping a blog will hold me accountable for posting some creations! Kim

Thanks for the info, I will definately look up Michelle. Once you have created a blog with blogspot, can you convert it over if you find that you like typepad better, or do you have to create a brand new blog?
I really appreciate all the info posted here. I hope to post some pics next week and get my blog rolling along. Just posted a couple of messages to it so far but I feel it is such a "beginner" blog! But I know you have to start somewhere! The galleries at SCS is fantastic and full of inspiration. And the blogs, well I am "WOWED" everytime I search and find a new one! There are some truely talented artists out there. Thanks again!

One thing that I found out the hard way........ on blogspot there is a link at the top of every blog that says 'next blog'...... don't click it! I tried it twice (yeah, I know - but I thought the first time was a fluke!) and it took me to some very very awful places. I switched over to typepad because I didn't want to feel responsible for anyone accessing lewd material from a link!

Been there, done that. I noticed the same thing. I suppose there is no way to change that? I thought that was how you search for other blogs, man was I wrong. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately not........... Blogger is free and it's just set up that way. I think most people 'think' that it will take them to a 'similar' blog..... but, um, NOT!

Typepad has no ads or 'links'!

Well I have been "blogging" since Sunday. Nothing big but I finally uploaded some pics, but my dates are all messed up and I can't get the newest posts on top. Searched the help section but was unable to locate anything that helped. I was going to search around and look into the typepad version to see what I think of that one but was wondering about switching it over, would that be possible or do you have to start from scratch? Thanks again!

Don't know how your dates can be messed up, never happened to me.
You can change the order of your posts like this:
-click on the "pencil" below your post when you're logged in, or on your dashboard click "manage posts"
-click "post options" on the left hand side below the message box, change the date, hit "publish post"

Blogger works really great for me.
You can move to wordpress, without loosing your posts/comments, don't know about typepad.
