I am amazed that so many people click on add to favorites but then don't leave a comment. I feel that if it is pretty or unusual enough to save to Favs that it might warrant a comment?? Am I wrong?
For example this very lovely card was put into Favs 25 times and got 16 comments..curious. Garden Silhouettes with Guava?? by janacb at Splitcoaststampers
Ditto 100 percent what Sassy said. I think a "favorite" marking is at least as big of a compliment as a comment. And YES... it can take forever between the site and my machine!
I agree that favoriting is like commenting to me. I am just as happy when people favorite my stuff as when they leave comments. I know some people are at work or have dialup, so just knowing they even viewed my card makes me happy! JMO
While I love reading the comments left for my creations, I think Favorited is a bigger compliment because that says they liked it enough to want to come back, look at it again, and maybe even case it! WooHoo!
I feel a warm rush of gratitude to any anonymous soul who "favorites" one of my cards. It means they want to look at it again!
Comments are fabulous, too. They mean I can go return the favor, so to speak. But even with as few comments as I get most of the time, it's impossible for me to get to everyone. Wish I could, though!
I am very guilty of favoriting and not commenting. My reasoning is that I can't do them both at the same time so I have to comment.... wait for upload...wait for redirect back to main screen....favorite...wait for redirect. So if I just favorite something, it is two steps and not five and the creator still knows that I obviously liked it enough to want to go back to it. Commenting on something doesn't automatically favorite it and if I forget to do both, then I've got to do searches through the galleries again to find "that card.. the one with the... that kinda looked like..." So, I am much more likely to favorite something than to comment, but I will leave comments if I have time - just usually not on those I favorite.
I'm guilty of this!!! sometimes I'm at work and although I'd love to write a paragraph about a card....in reality I may only have 1 minute, so I throw it into faves and go from there.

I never favorite without leaving a comment. It took the person a lot longer to make that card than it does for me to type a few kind words (and that's usually all I have time for - a few kind words).
That said, I know there are people who get a comment but aren't happy because it's just a couple of words: *adorable*, *beautiful*, *great job*. This I have to disagree with. I am thrilled to get any kind of comment. It does not have to be more than a few words.
I know that some people aren't satisfied with a short comment (they want more!). I also know that such an attitude makes some people not leave one at all. Can't really blame them. IMO, stampers should be grateful when someone leaves them a comment, short or long. Yes (as I said above), it took you a long time to make that card, but the viewer isn't just looking at your card - she's looking at hundreds, many of which are worthy of comment. To leave a long comment on each one would take a LOT of spare time, something most of us don't have.
Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, with the way the site has been acting the last couple weeks, it may literally take minutes to go from screen to screen.
Thanks... I was beginning to wonder if there was something seriously wrong with my computer or Internet connection. At least I know it's not just me.
On topic, I think that adding a card to your favourites is equally complimentary to submitting a comment.

I'm usually guilty as well - I do try to leave a comment if no one else has, or if I have a question. Quite honestly I work 10-12 hours a day, try to do something stamping related/look at SCS, exercise, interact with DH and furby, and, lastly, sleep. If I left a comment on every single card I favorited, I would look at about 10 cards a day, if that. So, I'm not trying to slight anyone, or hurt anyone's feelings; rather, I see favoriting as a genuine compliment - something that says "I really like your card - there is something about the layout, the embellishments, the theme, or something that makes me want to look at it again when I have more time".
I'm sorry but 16 comments on a card is LOTS! I've never had more than 6 or 7 and no one has ever favorited something I've made. Your work must be beautiful and I think you needn't worry why/how someone chose to acknowledge your work. For all the reasons listed above I think that favoriting=commenting.
I would have to ditto so many others here. It takes to long to "Post Quick Reply" and to return to the gallery. And since they have added the member companies (which I like) this site is moving oh so slowly so it makes it more difficult. And for those of us that use it at work while on break, it's hard to get through, save favorites and add comments. For those computer guru's out there, is there not a way to click on a comment to leave and return to the gallery quickly? just a thought.
Sometimes there are already a lot of comments on something I want to favorite and 'hate' to repeat what has already been said. I like comments but I like when people favorite my creations even more.

Just FYI - Your cards have lots of comments and many have been favorited...as well they should! *HUGS*

I saw lots of stuff that was fav'd in your gallery. Your stuff is wonderful!

Did you know you don't actually have to wait to be redirected? As soon as the screen comes up that says your post or edit had been successful, or this item has been added to your favorites, then you can just click the back button twice and be back where you were before you clicked on that card.
How do you know how many times it has been favorited?
On the left, under the enlarged photo, you'll see the uploading artist's name, and other info, including the # of times that particular image has been favorited.
As for comments, well, knowing in general how busy life is for people, how slowly the gallery sometimes moves if there's a lot of traffic, and that 1,000 uploads flood in daily on average (and there are over half a million images already in our galleries--over 600,000, actually!), I can honestly say that I absolutely consider a VIEW, just a VIEW, a compliment because they took a closer look at it!
If it's favorited or commented upon, well, that's just the icing on the cake for me! ;)

Having someone favorite one of my cards means more to me than a two-word comment (i.e. cute card). While I always TRY to leave a comment to a card I favorite, I can't say that I ALWAYS do...sometimes, I just don't have the time. Is that a bad thing????
Often times a thread will lead me to a gallery, since the poster might have specifically asked for comments. In those cases, I usually will oblige if they are looking for feedback - if I have something original to say. I try to avoid posting repetitive stuff - in both the gallery comments and in the regular threads.
Honestly it's only a very few cards that get added to my favorites. So in my case, that is the bigger compliment.
We sure talk about this subject a lot - don't we???
:-) Anne
We sure do! I wish I had one of those dead horse smileys! ;)
Honestly, if someone is offended by my favoriting their card without comment I wish they would say so in their photo description. There are a lot of people on this site (many of whom have commented in this thread and including me) who are happy when their cards are favorited without comment, and users do not have a crystal ball to know who is or is not in that group. So if someone is only happy with comments, they should let the other users know. I definitely do not want to offend anyone by favoriting their card without leaving a comment, so if I know that they do not want me to do that and I do not have time to comment I'll just move on to another card. And everyone will be happy and unoffended :-).
As an aside, I found that often if I leave a comment and then scroll quickly to the top and click on favorite, I can do both at the same time without waiting for the next screen. Sometimes the site is too quick for me, but often it works!

Absolutely not!

I totally agree with this. 16 comments is a ton!! How many do we really need on our cards? I honestly don't get that many comments on my cards but I know that people can use them in some way to help with their creativity. That's why we share.

I am guilty of this on several ocassions. Most of the time I get stuck in limbo screen and have to keep hitting the "back" button about 5 times just to get back to the gallery. It takes me forever (ok, about 1 minute, but it seems like at least 5) to leave a comment on a card. When your surfing a lot, that is a long time to leave a comment. I always hoped that "favoriting" was enough of a comment.
On that note, if I'm not in a hurry and don't have much to do (except peruse SCS), I will leave comments.
I am also guilty of this. And I don't have a gallery (another dead horse). I love looking at everyone's work and we have some very talented people here but I'm starting to wonder if people are putting their work in the gallery to express their creativity and share that or are they just fishing for compliments. As long as you love it, who cares. Favoriting from me is a compliment, and it sounds like this is the overall perception.
I always try to comment on any card I favorite. I think it's nice to be able to tell the creator what it was about the card that I found appealing enough to have put it in my favorites. However, if I don't have time to comment on the card at the same time I favorite it, I usually go back and leave my comments on my favorites when I do have the time - possibly later in the week. As a result, I may not comment on a favorited card if I see that it already has pages and pages of comments. At that point, I'm afraid that my comment will only be redundant and apparently, some people don't like redundant comments. But that's a whole other thread. (LOL Diane - crystal ball! ;))
Did you know that any time you hold the shift key down while clicking on something, that it will automatically open whatever your clicking on in its own new window? So when I'm cruising the gallery, and see a card I like, I hold shift and click on it. The card opens in its own window. I decide to favorite and leave a comment on the card. Hold shift down again and click on "Add to favorites". This opens up the "The card was added to your favorites" window. Instead of waiting for that window to redirect *back* to the card, I still have the original card window open with which to leave my comment. Once I'm done with the favoriting and commenting, I just click to close the windows and I'm right back where I started in the gallery. No more painfully slow back-button. I know I probably made it sound like a lot of time consuming work, but really... it absolutely helps cruising/commenting/favoriting go SOOO much quicker!

Actually, you don't even have to wait for the 'post successful' screen...at least I don't. Right after I click on the button to 'submit' my comment I can hit the back button and continue with my cruising. If you go check the card you will see that the post still goes through...At least it works that way for me. I do the same thing when I 'favorite' something.
As for comments...some people leave them and some people do not. I don't feel anyone should feel obligated leave a comment. I lurked on this site for well over a year before I ever left a comment and longer than that before I dared to upload. I was using that favorite button very early on though! Everyone on this site is unique and has her own way of doing things and her own set of reasons for it. Therefore, if someone favorites something I made I take it as a HUGE compliment...comment or not.

If you hit the small down arrow next to the back and forward buttons, it gives you a dropdown of your last few pages-that saves time.
I have a couple of cards with no comments that have been favorited. Someone must have liked them! This past week definitely was slow for comments-I do think it has to do with the slowness of the site.
I just uploaded my first card the other night and it was favorited once, but no comments. I consider it a HUGE compliment to have someone favorite a card. That is a comment in my opinion. I'm happy.
i would love to leave more comments but it wont let me back out and continue where i left off its the weirdest thing. unfortunately its a time thing. which sounds like a lame excuse but if my daughter has a time limit on the computer so do I ts only fair
