AWESOME DAY!!!- 2nd ANNUAL CENTRAL INDIANA SCS GATHERING!!!
AWESOME!!! Thanks to everyone for making this such a great day! What talent!!!
FINAL CONFIRMED COUNT - 36, plus possibility of 2 more
2nd Annual Central Indiana SCS Gathering
Saturday, November 3, 2007 $30.00 per person
8:00 am to 6:00 pm
AGENDA: 8:00 am 8:45 am - Registration
9:00 am Stamping commences! J
12:15 pm Lunch Break
1:00 pm Stamping recommences! J
6:00 pm End of day L
Cost is $30.00 per person, no refunds (but replacements are allowed). **EXTENDED DEADLINE** - Registration form and payment must be RECEIVED by me no later than October 17th. Please email me to let me know you are sending in your payment.Mailing information is on the registration form. Unpaid spots will be opened up to the waiting list, if any.
This is a Shoebox Swap, limited to 50 Stampers. The theme will be Fall and Winter. You will need to bring 2 completed samples of your project, and all the supplies required to make an additional 50 full cards, including your stamp cleaner of choice. *REVISED* THERE IS NO VENDOR REQUIREMENT, other than to use good quality cardstock and images. Please have cardstock and any layers already cut. It would be ideal to make kits and have all needed supplies for a card in individual cello bags, so the Stamper can grab a bag and start stamping. Your project needs to be basic enough to be completed in 10 minutes max. Remember you will be stamping 50 cards (50x10 = 500 minutes/60 mph=8.3 hours!)...so no dilly-dallying allowed! J Make sure to have directions printed out for your project so Stampers can follow easily. These directions, along with one of your completed samples, will be on the table with your supplies. Please put your name and recipe on the back of your sample. Also, make sure to have your name on everything!
**You will need to bring your own scissors and adhesive to take with you as you move around the room. You may bring envelopes if you wish to stamp them also, but they are not required.
** A boxed lunch is included in the fee, and details are listed on the registration form below. Bottled water will be provided throughout the day. If you need coffee or soft drinks, please plan to bring them. There is a BP gas station right in front for lunch-time trips for such drinks if you wish.
** One of your completed projects will go in the basket for donation to the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.
** The second completed project, along with your printed directions, will be retained by me (Kathy McD) since I wont get to stamp any that day. Be sure to get your ticket when you turn yours in to me. There will be a special door prize drawing at the close of the day for those who turn theirs in.
** Plan to bring a door prize if you wish to go home with a prize. Only those who bring one will get a ticket for the random drawings through out the day. Everyone who brings a prize should go home with a prize. Be sure to ask if you dont get your ticket! These prizes must be stamping relatedor hand-stamped.around $10-15 in value
** Bring your camera if you like. However, we will be mailing out a CD of all the projects and stampers after the event to each attendee, so you will have photos of the actual projects to refer to.
We had such a great time last year, and I hope this years event is even better! Feel free to email me with any questions that come up, and especially if I have overlooked any important items! [email protected] or [email protected]
SEE YOU THERE!

Okay, I was so excited about this, but now I am concerned that I may not be able to provide SUp! exclusive papers. Does that put me out of the event? I don't keep lots of SUp! specific papers because I have a huge supply of other papers, and I don't know that DH will look kindly on my making another order for MORE. Please advise.

Okay...let's clarify my intent. I would like the cardstock and stamp sets to be current SU! items...but will classify Designer or patterned paper as an "embellishment"...so, if you are using a patterned paper as an accent on your project...it can be any vendor.
Does that help everyone?

Shoot! I thought these events were usually equal opportunity affairs. Since I just became a demo with TAC, I'm pretty obsessed with just using my new rubber right now.
Hope you girls have a great time!

Beth...I would assume most will do Christmas designs...but I haven't really heard one way or another!
Crafty...congrats on your TAC demoship! You are more than welcome to come...can you borrow a SU stampset from a friend?
By the way...I leave tomorrow morning for a week cruisin' in the Southern Caribbean! Hope I come home to a full mailbox!

Would you be willing to revise the rules? I'm not being difficult here, but SCS is for all stampers, and if you wanted this to be SUp! only, you should have named it the Central Indiana Stampin' Up! Gathering and not started it on SCS. I'm considering making an order with my demo so I can attend. We just started a budget plan in our home, and I included a hobby line, but by paying the Gathering fee AND a SUp! order, I'll blow the budget a month after we started it. DH isn't too happy with me, and frankly, I LOVE stamping, but I love and respect him more.
The cardstock requirement is the sticker for me. I have a good variety of stamps that are SUp!. Lisa, I would be happy to loan you some stamps, but I also totally understand why you would want to use yours.
Kathy, any demo worth her salt could take ANY layout and color scheme and adapt it to a SUp! exclusive card by matching colors and similar (or non-similar) stamps. Won't you reconsider your rules? Really, I'm not being snide or difficult. I really want to come.

In view of your requests Lisa and Dawna...as well as pms I have received the past couple of days....I concede your points.
SCS *IS* for all stampers, and I wouldn't want someone excluded from our event who really wants to attend, only because she can't meet the vendor requirements.
Soooo....I have made this executive decision and revised the original posting and the .pdf file to reflect the removal of any vender requirement...other than the need to use good quality cardstock and images.
Stampers are stampers are stampers...the bestest group of artists anywhere. I would feel awful if *I* were the cause for someone to feel left out. We all have something to share....and that is what this event is all about...sharing and laughter.....okay and maybe some chocolate would be nice too? :p
Please spread word of this revision to all your stamping friends, since I will be incommunicado for a week. I am back home on Sept 30th.....will see you all then!

Kathy....you are a doll!!! ((HUGS)) and enjoy your trip. DH and I cruised for 4 days this summer....and you don't wanna know how much weight I gained...7 lbs... Hope you eat better than I did....and I thought I was being 'good' by choosing stuff off the menu that had the little scales by it indicating that it was low cal......grrrrrr!! I suppose it didn't help that I ate all 5 courses and the midnight buffet LOL!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! And my DH thanks you, too!
I'll bring the chocolate!!! That aught not take too much out of the budget!
AND... Have a GREAT time on your cruise. I've taken a couple, and can't even begin to tell you how much fun they are! If you are going with your DH, it is very romantic! If you are going with girlfriends, take a bunch of stamping stuff and commandeer one of the tables near the window in the back of the buffet area and take some cards you made ahead of time to give to the crew when they 'wander' by to check on you. "HERE! I made some for you all... pick out your favorite!" That way, they don't mind you being there at all! Just be ready with plenty of cards, because they will send their friends around, too! I was able to stamp for about 50% of the time on one of my cruises with my friends. Now, THAT'S what I call a vacation!!
I can't wait to meet all of you in November!

I wanted to mention to you all that for the card you are giving to the Ronald McDonald House... there are many kids in the hospital who absolutely CANNOT get cards with glitter on them. Too easy to inhale it, and if their immune system is already compromised, that is a huge no-no. You don't know if the families will give your card to the hospitalized child or send it away, but it would be wise not to take chances.
I am making cards with glitter for our exchange. I am making the donation card similar, without the glitter. It will have to 'shine' instead of 'sparkle'!
Kathy, thank you for making the donation to RMH possible. That organization has been very good to me and my family, and I can share from experience that the cards and other similar gifts to the families is much appreciated. You're probably in a pretty lousy spot if you find need of their services, and if you find yourself there before a holiday and you haven't sent out cards, yet.... well that just adds to your stress, even tho that is the last thing you are thinking about. As a stamper, it added to MY stress, LOL!

Great thinking on the RM cards.......Dawna...you are soooooo smart! And, can't wait to see you again!!! Funny story....Dawna and her family live in a house that one of my friends from high school built and they live on the property where we hung out every weekend many moons ago in High School. Crazy story, it is...and a small world!!
Carol...cool on the cards. I can't believe you have your Christmas ones done. I'm sooooo jealous!!! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Mine will prolly be Christmas cards because I need to start thinking in that direction, but am excited to see lots of other neato winter stuff too.

Thanks so much for the policy change. That's very sweet. I really didn't mean to stir anything up--I hope everyone it OK with the new rules. (Oh boy, now I'm really under pressure to make an AWESOME card.)
Let's all start spreading the word about this, it would be great to have 50 of us!

I have attended one other shoe box swap and had a great time. I also had a difficult time coming up with a card design using only SU products. I was a new demo and only had SU paper that was included in my demo kit.
However, by changing the requirement, I am a bit worried about signing up for this event. I know that I can adapt any design using SU products. My concern is the quality of the cards that I am going to receive in exchange for my SU cards. In other words, I don't have a problem with the requirement change if everyone is using high quality products.
Does anyone know how many people are signed up so far? I am talking to some of my customers and upline to see if anyone wants to carpool. It is about 3 1/2 hours away for us.

I worry about the same thing all the time...no matter where I'm going. I feel like I use some of the top stuff, but I come home with swaps I wouldn't even show my stamp girls. I don't mean to be picky...but if they are used to one thing...they won't like another. You know what I mean?! I'm going to try it. I'm going to the Stampers Retreat in Cincinnati on October 12-13th. We are doing a shoebox swap there too. So hopefully that will go well too. Hugs! Ash~

Actually, I'll probably be using SU paper because I still have tons of it. But TAC's paper and stamps are very good quality. I can't imagine that anyone would dare to bring inferior products to this event. But this is my first shoebox swap, so my expectations are high!

I wish I could make this. It sounds like a lot of fun. However, I will flying out to San Francisco that day. The facility looks great too. Hope there will be a Third Annual Gathering.

I totally agree. I just bought some creative memories paper because a friend was having a party. Their paper (designer paper) is every bit the quality that SU paper is. So, I expect quality cards and projects, too (now watch, you guys will be saying...oh, man, did you see bethhartley's card...talk about poop !! LOL) No really, go check out galleries of some of the ladies that have signed up and I think that should be an indicator of what type of work will be presented for this swap. I know some of the ladies who have already signed up and their work is exceptional!!!
On, the other hand, I have hosted and been in a few swaps....one a scrapbook swap and literally had to redo about 4 pages because they were very underquality (is that a word??). But, I also have to realize that we are all in different stages and ability levels with our work...some of us are old time stampers and scrappers, some are beginners. And, we like different styles and layouts, color combos, designs and what you or I might appreciate, someone else will not get. And, what I don't get, someone else will think is awesome! You may or may not like EVERY card that is shared at this swap. But, I bet they will be all special and unique in their own ways.
I have been to another SCS shoebox swap in Chicago and the work there was awesome. There were 80 ladies and we were split into two groups so each group made 40 cards. I honestly can't think of any of the 40 that I thought were not quality cards. They were all awesome and I felt I walked away with some great new ideas. I suspect the same will be said of the swap here.
Anyway, I posted this when I hosted a swap and maybe it should go here too.....It's Catie's tips on what makes a good swap card/project. If anyone is worried about their card or the cards they will make/take home...this might be a good thing to check out.

Hope this hasn't been to blabbery!

Well said, Beth. I expect quality. I also expect to see a range of skill. I will be encouraging to beginners, and am looking forward to the variety of layouts and color combos, lots of laughter, friendship, and chocolate. I DON'T expect highly detailed masterpieces... we have been given a time limit to work within. My card is already designed. I am now just working on getting all the elements measured and cut. My card is NOT difficult. It is NOT low quality. It IS lovely and classy. I am looking forward to sharing it. If it does not meet some peoples expectations, then I hope that they will be gracious enough to keep it to themselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for constructive criticism and helpful suggestions. I am hoping, however, that negative judgementalism will be left at home.
