So I was talking to a dirty girl yesterday and we were talking about how after you get asked to be on the dd, you hardly get any more comments....
hmmmm...this sort of bothered me. I admit I am guilty of this sometimes, cause you know they have the validation that they are incredible---but since everyone takes the time to share their creations on SCS, don't you think if you are wowed by their work (which, lets face it, you will be) you should leave a little comment?
So, make sure next time you take a closer look at a card..you leave a comment---and dont forget those dirty girls either. They may smell (esp the ones who never wear shoes) but they love comments too!!!!
I think the Dirty Girls are fantastic, too! I'm really surprised to hear that they rarely get comments. I always see their creations FULL of comments! I'm one of the ones leaving them, too!
Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
Well, I don't treat the DD girls any different once they are picked to be a team member. This really surprises me because I always think you "dirty" ones get a ton of comments. I think anything over 10 comments is great!
I will do my part.....SCS wouldn't be the same without them.. I can only imagine the time commitment, work, and extra stress that comes along with being a dirty girl. The best way to let them know we appreciate them is to let them know by thanking them and commenting on their amazing projects!Leave a comment? Simple enough!
I have noticed this trend too. There have been times I have been cruising the gallery and see one of their cards and am shocked it hasn't gotten more comments.
I have also noticed a big drop in comments on all cards in the gallery as well. I haven't spent as much time purusing the gallery as I use to. I really need to get back to that. Leaving comments in the gallery, instead of forum threads, was always one of my favorite thigs to do. It's how I got most of my posts.
Must spend less time in the forums and more time making someones day in the gallery!!

I have also noticed a big drop in comments on all cards in the gallery as well.
Part of this might have to do with the fact that there are so many MORE cards in the galleries!
I comment on any card I pull up that I like- so if it's a dirty girls, she get a comment too. I have a hard time believing they don't get comments though- I've never seen a card in the fan club that isn't FULL of comments. Or was this gal talking about cards in her personal galleries? I guess they have the same "upload time" factor as the rest of us- except I'm thrilled if I get 2 comments- is that disappointing to them?
I do think that anyone who looks at the gallery should try to comment- we all need the validation!
Wow! That's really bizarre, I think. My gallery-looking days have been few and far between lately which must be why I hadn't notice any changes. I haven't even visited the fan club gallery lately (shocking, I know!), lol!
When I do look at the gallery, I go through it all in thumbnail mode, which doesn't show who did it. I was so embarrassed the other day when somebody pm'd me regarding a comment I'd made on her card just the day before, and I didn't even recognize her name, after less than 12 hours! I just don't look at the names much....
Anyway, I hope that people don't get to feeling like people don't need comments just because they're "famous." I certainly don't. I guess it's true...it's lonely at the top...
I'm always leaving comments on cards, I just don't understand why people don't leave for me and I think I make descent cards. They like to view & save to their favorites but won't leave any comments. My DH says don't worry about it so much.
You know what's funny???? I made a card this week that I thought was beautiful! I was so proud. Then, Not 1 comment. I went to the general forum and asked if there was something missing from my card. I ended up tearing off some portions and changing the whole card. I still didn't get very many comments, but I like my card anyway.
I can honestly say that I try to put comments on the creations that have 2 or less comments. I feel sorry when someone made a really great card, but because they aren't well known to scs or they uploaded at the wrong time of day, or whatever, they don't get any comments. I feel that this discourages from uploading for newbies. Yes, the gallery is becoming enormous, so it is impossible to leave a comment on every card, but I try to leave one on the neglected cards.
I figure if I take the time to go look at someone's card regardless of who they are then I make sure I take the time to comment as well! And you are all so right! There are a gadzillion cards but I do try to do my little part!
I agree with chickers089, it does seem like you have to be popular on the site in order to receive comments. I was told once that if I joined swaps or challenges I would receive more comments....however, I do work 10hr days, have 2 toddlers and a DH, so I can't sit all day making cards. The only chance I have is making them at night or on the weekend & pull an all nighter. The only reason I'm home today is I got a call from daycare & both of my daughters are sick, I would make some cards now....but once I start, they'll wake up and I won't have any time. I'll try & leave more comments than I normally do especially to the newbies like me.
Yep...definitely true...those who do challenges definitely do get more comments.
It is ALWAYS good to reach out to those who do not get a lot--I have found wonderful galleries doing this!
Agreed Carolyn. I love to browse the galleries and look for the stamper that has not yet been found! Sometimes you find very talented stampers that get overlooked in all the daily uploads. I have also found some great humor this way -- lots of great T&D out there!
Part of this might have to do with the fact that there are so many MORE cards in the galleries!
We average nearly 1,000 uploads daily.
As you said, that really has to be taken into consideration.

When I do have time to cruise the gallery, that's exactly what I do; I don't discriminate based on who made it, and whether or not they're famous or not famous, or how many comments it already has or doesn't have.
Altho I will say, I by-pass many pieces based simply on the quality of the photography/thumbnail image. It may be the prettiest piece the 1,000 in the batch, but, if the thumbnail is blurry or otherwise poor, I move on because it's genuinely hard on my eyes. :(

I am not the gal in question, but, I would surmise that she is referring to items in her personal gallery.
I have many creations in my personal gallery that receive relatively little notice any more. Considering the volume of uploads I already mentioned, it doesn't surprise me one bit!
Of course, there's every possibility that what I uploaded was ugly to everyone but me. :p And, that's OK, too! I don't think about it all that much!
Too busy with other things!

*snort* I was just thinking that more then 5 is good in my gallery! ;) I admit that I am guilty of not spending as much time in the gallery as I should. But at least I am not commenting on anyones work and not just dirty girls. O.k. I know, that's bad! It was said in good fun, I promise! ;) I promise that I will make every effort to spend more time in the gallery and comment on all the fabu work!

BTW, I didn't mean to sound flippant or disrespectful towards anyone's desire for comments--and I don't want anyone to misinterpret my intention. I genuinely appreciate any and every view, favorite, comment, or kind PM/email that comes my way with regards to my artwork.
I can only speak for myself. I can look at it as a popularity contest, and choose to feel slighted or under-recognized when my works don't get the comments I'd like or feel they merit.
Is that really what it's all about? Well, it could be, but, only if that's what I choose to make it.
In reality, however, it is dependent upon so many different variables it boggles the brain!
And, yes, I can control some of that, by using a specific brand of stamps, making sure my artworks are in keeping with a particularly popular trend or style, the number of pieces, the timing of upload with regards to the hour, day of the week, day of month, . . . well, yikes.
Is that really what I want this to be about?
No, thank you.
If I succeed on that single most important thing (to me):
Do I like it, and does the special person I made it for like it?
man, I tell ya', there's no higher high--no amount of comments, views, or favorites by others can surpass that!
I choose to stamp happy, and disregard the rest!
And, view, favorite, and comment on artwork that catches my eye on the rare times I can just sit and cruise the gallery, just for the sake of cruisin'.

Wait a minute -- I go barefoot too!!!! Even though I can only count to 19, if you take all the dirt off the bottom that would definitely make up one more toe!
Given this huge number of cards, uploaded every day, if a few people pop in to comment, or save for a fav, I'd say that is tremendous,.
The Dirty Girls of course, deserve comments, besides already being adored and admired by all!!;)
I comment on those I have time to peek at and love. I guess I am surprised that the number of comments, etc...is even an issue. I think if you love to stamp, you just really don't care....you either like your card or you don't.
I sent cards to relatives for over a year, lovely homemade cards, and not one person said, hey, I see you are making cards. Later, I found out, they were saving them in their underwear drawers, as they were considered so special.
Never underestimate the impact you are making!!

I hope that no one thought I was whining about the number of comments that I get. It was so not meant to come out that way. I was just saying that yes, the more well known SCS'ers get more comments, not all the time, but a lot. I guess it's cause we all know what kind of work they are capable of. They wouldn't be well-known for just their good looks, right??? lol I admire everyone on this site. They all produce works of art at many different calibers. I admit that my stuff isn't Dirty worthy, but I still like to share it so others can hopefully find something that they like. Sorry if I came across as negative.

I am a newbie to this whole stamping thingy and when I post to upload my cards, I appreciate the views but sometimes I would like a comment of them. I work hard at my cards, and sometimes it takes me awhile to get a card done. My friends and my DH like my cards too. They just see the hard work that comes along with it. My DH says also not to worry about the comments as long as YOU like it..I think it would be great to leave comments on us newbies as well as the DD's.

OHHHHH!! I'm trying to learn this one!! The last few cards I've made have had this goal in mind and I've liked them soooo much better than the cards that were made for "comments" (not saying I don't like the comments...cause I tend to keep looking to see if I got any....I'm still in kindergarten on the learning to like my cards for being MY cards!!
(now back to your regularly scheduled program!!)
On the flip side, I can't begin to say what it felt like when a DD girl commented on one of my uploads - It truly made my day!!! I think I was on cloud nine for at least a week when SweetMissDaisy commented on my gallery. DD Girls - don't forget about us "average stampers" and make someone's day by leaving a comment!
I think the blogging has alot to do with the decline in comments. My gallery comments for others has suffered due to the blogs - after working full-time and nightly chores, by the time I get on the PC and read all my favorite blogs, there isn't enough time to run through today's additions. It's time to get to bed so I can do it all over again! LOL!!!

I heard this recently and was shocked. I cruise the gallery almost daily and comment on what I like no matter how many comments it gets. I've found many new fabulous stampers this way.
But I have to ask an honest question. Please don't flame me. Do some dirty girls cruise the gallery less and comment on cards less after becoming dirty?
That's it! Julie's gallery is full of ugly stuff!!!
BAWHAAAAAAAAHA!!!
he he he
I love the Dirty Girls! Not just for their fabulous creations but for their friendly, down to earth, and funny personalities (shown in their posts and blogs)!
(((HUGS))) to the Dirty Girls - past and present! You're a great group for many reasons!

No flames here.
I can only speak for myself. Some weeks I comment up a storm and other weeks I'm lucky to get into the gallery more than a few times a week. But, I'm a firm "click it, comment on it" girl. I look at daily uploads, and it doesn't matter who the card belongs to - if it catches my eye I comment.

I see so many cards and sometimes just don't know what to say. I know some people want a detailed comment and I don't want to offend anyone. I'm a novice compared to so many so I tend to think my opinion isn't that important. I see so many amazing cards in the gallery. I love looking through there when I have spare time or need ideas. There are so many talented people here and I appreciate everyone sharing their work. No one should be discouraged if they don't receive a comment. I think that when you make a card "you" should love it. If you like what you stamped and are happy with it, that's the most important thing. I've made cards that I didn't like and either started over or changed it until I did. Once I'm happy with it I look forward to giving it to someone.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their work! It is appreciated.
I must admit that I really don't have time to look at the gallery every day but when I see a card that I like, I will always leave a message, whether the card is by a Dirty Girl or not. I admire the Dirty Girls' creations and am always suprised and really pleased when they leave comments in my gallery.
