I remember reading that thread. It did have lots of info about clear stamps.
That said, I have had good luck with really cheapo clear stamps, like the little $1 from Michaels. On the other hand, I have had more expensive ones that did not stamp too well.
I think a lot depends on the kind of ink you use with them, and the stamping technique you have. The clear stamps require a different "touch" than the rubber stamps.

My absolute favorite clear stamps are by PaperTreyInk! They take all kinds of ink like a dream. Highest quality on the market.
I have not tried CTMH stamps, so I have no opinion on those.
I like the Technique Tuesday stamps, including the Rhonna Farrer, but they are not quite as high quality. I have pretty much given up getting a good impression with classic inks from their Swirls set. Strangely, the Flowers set works fine.
Impression-Obsession is another favorite. I've had no problems at all with my stamps from there. I do only have their sentiments, though, no images.
Pretty much like everything else, you get what you pay for. Dollar stamps can be useful, but the quality simply is not as great.
Recently, I have gotten my first clear stamps from Frugalities. I bought some Autumn leaves and Technique Tuesday from them and they are wonderful. Then someone on this site turned me on to MFT stamps and I bought several sets and they stamp like a dream also. I guess I have been lucky with my clear stamps, they all have done very well and store in practically no space at all. Plus, when you need to get a placement just right, there's nothing better than a clear stamp. A friend bought me a clear alphabet from HL called scribbles that is amazing, I forget who makes it, but it stamps like a dream. I just happened to be in HL in another state from where my friend bought the alpha and bought the punctuation and numbers set to go with it. They're great! I have not had a problem with any ink that I have with these stamps.
I just bought some stampendous sets and love them. however I do have to agree that it took me a few tries to get the image out right. it does take "a different touch" then rubber stamps, but once you adjust they're great!
