Do many of you use the Stamp-a-ma-jig? I see so many repeated stamp things that are so perfectly lined up (like the chairs on the wooden ruler someone did). Do you another method or are you guys just naturally good at this and don't need "help?"
Oh my gosh I completely agree! Well, except I never tried any other positioner. But I love my SAMJ! I use it for almost everything. I purchased a few used stamp sets and they are not always mounted straight, nor are many of the sets that I have mounted my own, but I tell myself "Who cares! I have my SAMJ!" I origiannly bought it for my Daisy set but found it also works for making sure any image will go exactly where I want to put it. So I say buy it! You will not be sorry.
This was one of those "gadgets" I just had to have when I started accumulating supplies. It sat in my drawer for over a year until I actually used one at Stamp Club one night. From then on I was hooked! It is very easy to use, and is wonderful for lining up images, alphabets, etc. At stamp club that night, we used it to place the snowman from Tags and More into the square opening punched out with the 1 3/8 inch square punch. It fit perfectly! I would highly recommend owning one, even if you only use it occasionally. It is worth the final results. I know that some people cut up transparencies, or other clear sheets, and stamp alphabets on them with Staz-On ink to store with their alphabets. That way they are ready to use at a moment's notice, and you don't have to re-stamp them each time.

After stamping for several years, I just bought one. I can't believe I have lived without if for this long!!! What was I thinking. I love it & it's so easy to use.
Here's how it works. The positioner comes with a see-thru plastic sheet. You line up the plastic sheet up against the corner of the positioner and stamp your image on the plastic in the corner. You will use the wood of the stamp right up against the positioner & will stamp directly on the plastic sheet. Then move the image that you just stamped on the plastic sheet to determine where you want to stamp it on your actual paper. Once you have the image in the right place, line up the positioner to the plastic sheet. Once the positioner is in place, reink & stamp your image on the paper.
My dad, who is a retired art teacher, made me the most WONDERFUL stamp positioner. He didn't just stop at the nice little right angle, but put alignment tabs on it, attached (with piano hinges it to a smooth, flat piece of wood that can have a grid put on it. It is basically a stamping ONLY, portable surface that was built on the principals of a printing press.
I would never use anything else! ;)

P.S. Although, the small stamp positioner would be nice to just toss in a bag. This is portable, but it is not as tiny as that.
get it! get it! get it! You won't regret it! I use mine ALL the time and love it. Totally worth every penny because it ensures a great finished product every time!!
My SAMJ has been sitting in the closet all summer. I just cannot figure out how to use it. You guys use it for everything? I'm left handed - could that be why I'm having such a hard time with this?
here's what I don't understand.
I stamp in the left hand corner of the plastic with the SAMJ there or not? Then I move the plastic to the place on the card? Then slide it out and stamp where the plastic was? I guess I should just play with it more - but the few times that I have - it is a complete mess. Oh, 1 more - do you only stamp 1 image at a time on the plastic sheet?
You want to line up the plastic sheet right up against the corner of the SAMJ. Then stamp your image once directly on the plastic. You want to make sure the wood of your stamp actually touches the SAMJ at the top and side.
Move the plastic so the image shows right where you want it to be. Take your SAMJ and line it up to the corner of the plastic sheet. Remove the plastic (making sure the SAMJ stays put), then ink and stamp (again make sure the wood of your stamp actually touches the top and side of the SAMJ). If you want to repeat images, just move the plastic piece over and then move the SAMJ over and do it again. You don't need to stamp on the plastic sheet more than once. Once you are done, just wipe the stamped image off the plastic with a baby wipe.
i like to stamp onesies when my friends have babies.. but i sometimes didnt press hard enough to get enough ink on the fabric. used to.. this was a 'toss out' onesie. then i got the SAMJ.. and it is easily fixed. I LOVE IT. i can restamp in the exact spot without fear of it being offline. it is great with all two stampin as well.. the butterfly from LWOE used to drive me crazy until i used it with the SAMJ.. and now... no more craziness... at least with that set.
Well I have an SAMJ but was really just wondering if that's what all you pros use. I, too, am left-handed and it works fine for me. You can use it whether you are left or right handed. I bought mine at Michael's with my 40% off coupon, too. I've used it only a few times since I just purchased it recently but can DEFINITELY see the improvement in my alignment, cumbersome or not. Glad to hear it's a worthwhile investment (what I call all my stamping/scrapbooking supplies-hehe). I tell my DH the craft closet is my equivalent to his boat!

I LOVE my samj! I was always "afraid" to use my alphabet stamps in my scrapbook; not anymore! My titles line up PERFECTLY! I can't believe that I've been stamping for 3 years and only recently was introduced to this tool. I now feel like I can use any stamp set--even the difficult to line up 2 step sets--with ease and confidence.
I just ordered one and can't wait to get it. I'm so glad to hear so many people like theirs. Now if they could just get my order to UPS and out of picking...

What a fantastic idea! My dh has a garage full of tools and I know he has at least two drills, plus we have a sandbox half full of sand! I know what my dh's next project is!
I think it is best used for positioning stamps on tags. Tags are so expensive (compared to CS) that I did not really use them becuase I was afraid they were not going to be centered. Now, I use the SAMJ and it is great!
