OK, I think I'm challenged on this one. I have followed instructions and printed pictures and worked so hard to make these pens look like the pictues and well they just would not work.. either I have the wrong tools or I'm just not doing it correctly. I asked my SU demo if she has ever done these and if she could help me out, she has never heard of these :?
I'm thinking that I'm challenged, is there anyone out there that I can buy a beaded pen from so that I can look at it and see where I'm having creative error!
I wish I could help you, but I am in the same boat. I can figure anything out if I can SEE it! I ordered my beads from Pennywise Arts. A number of people had said they got a beaded pen with their orders, but I did not!

ok, I will send you a picture of one. DONT LAUGH I have to figure out this stupid camera and computer to make sure I get the picture in here correctly.. I'm computer challenged also
are you trying to make the rsvp witht the beads in the barrel or the bic pens with the beads on the out side? If it is the later I would be happy to send you one with the instructions that I followed
I have bought both types of pens. I also got sheets of Oh So Sticky Tape from Pennywise Arts. And I bought 1/4 inch Tacky Tape. My breakdown occurs when I try to figure out something to stamp on that will stick and then what (and how) to stick over it to adhere the beads. Until I can see this in my mind, I am afraid to actually start. Wkonieczko is ahead of me in that regard!

i personally have not done the rsvp so i can't comment as to ease...but the bic pens are very easy IMHO. once you find the measurment they are very fast to put together. Let me know.
I guess for this it depends on what type of look you are going for. I think they are about the same on skill level, except you are able to do the pen and keep the lid on the RSVP and they look more expensive
I have to say I've been having the most difficulty with the outside and locating a nice sticky tape that does not stick to me and not the pen... I have one rsvp pen that the outside is done but the beeds are falling off, I dont think the sticky stuff is sticky enough... What is pennywise??? I've never heard of it.
www.pennywisearts.com she sells the beads and the o'so sticky tape. i have to agree the sheets are the best for pens. if i am not mistaken the beds are meant to go on the inside of th rsvp. just to kind of swoosh around. if you join qpw yahoo group, she has got awesome tutorial with step by step pictures!
ok now I feel silly..... I've been sticking my beads to the outside of the pen..... maybe I'm making this to hard on myself... OK well I will try putting the beads inside the pen now!
I do the beads on the outside of the pens and I agree that the sheets of sticky tape from pennywise are the best. I have found that it helps to heat the tape just a bit with an embossing gun or blow dryer to make it "extra sticky" before you stick the beads on. Hope this helps some.
WOW.... so maybe I'm not that challenged after all... I will try the heat on the tape.. I found that I have some of that tape at home... I'm going to try everyone's advice and I will post one when I have it finished.. I just hope it looks 1/2 as nice as the ones posted in the gallery
I stamp my image on a mailing label cut it to fit the pen, put it on the outside of the pen. Cut O'So Sticky Tape SHEETS to fit the pen and put that on top of the label, then role the pen in the beads.
You can stick the beads on the outside. You can put them on the inside. I've done them both ways.
I like to take a large white sticker and roll or stamp on it. I wrap that around the barrel of my RSVP pen. Then I take the same size piece of O'so Sticky tape and put that on top of the sticker. Then I peel off the other layer from the sticky tape to expose the sticky side and roll the pen in the beads. You can see that pattern through your beads as long as you use the transparent clear beads.
Also works just as will on Bic pens or even pencils!
I was fascinated by the decorated pen idea, ordered 4 dozen RSVP pens from Viking and they came yesterday. Since I don't have the tape or the microbeads yet, I cut 3 1/4 strips of vellum paper, ripped edge on at least one of the long sides, stamped with small detailed images (e.g. A Little Love) in black, sometimes colored them with blender pens as well, then put the strips inside the pens. So cool, so easy.
I certainly want to try adding beads, but I can't imagine how adding beads to the inside when there is already stamped paper there could make an impact, as the paper ends up very snug against the inside of the barrel and even the vellum ends up fairly "opaque." For those of you who add the beads to the inside, are you only adding beads (no paper)?

rolled paper?
I didn't personally like the paper inside. I felt it distorted the image. So, what I have figured out is if you cut some SU designer paper, (or a stamped sticker sheet of some kind) to 3 1/4 X 1 1/4, you can use a 2 way glue pen to put the paper on the outside and then cut a sheet of terrifically tacky tape (I found mine at hobby lobby for 2.99 per 2 6 x 8 sheets!) to the same size and overlap that on the paper. Don't touch the sticky tape, use the paper you are peeling off if you need to touch it. Then roll in the beads. This technique helped me make about 15+ pens in less than 2 hours.
Hint: I use my paper cutter to cut the sticker sheet. I thought it might get "stuck" but it doesn't, and then your measurements are exact!
Planning on ordering the micro beads from Queen Pennywise. How many RSVP pens will 5oz do? Thanks-I'm new at all of this--but been surfing and watching lots!
OK, I took the plunge and made some pens. I've made one of each to see which one I like best. IMHO I think the RSVP has the best look but the most time consuming. the bic was easiest and I used a crystal bic pen that one came out neet.. Once I felt comfortable I made over 40 for a bridal shower and didn't keep one for myself but I will post the ones I have done when I get a chance.
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and sent me explinations and step by step instructions with samples.
I would like to order some micro beads from Pennywise. They come in 5 oz packages. I don't know how many to order. Can someone please tell me about how many pens you can do with 5 oz of micro beads?
What type of paper do you put inside the RSVP pens? Also, what dimension do you use? I have been having trouble getting the stamped paper in!!! Please help!!!!
Carla
I stamp on copy paper with the same dimensions just posted and then roll it as small as I can and put it inside the barrel of the pen. I don't think that beads would fit in there also, so I am going to test putting the beads on the outside soon.
I've read before that nailpolish will remove the printing on the pen (the RSVP info), might be good if you don't want it to show up.
My favorite pen so far used the "bar" stamp of flowers from the In Full Bloom set of stamps. I colored it with watercolor pencils and blender pens.
