Default Vermont Soldiers In Need of Cards...

Hi Everyone,

I did a search through the forums and saw that other requests for cards were in this forum, so I wanted to make sure I put my request in the right spot. Just a little background first.....my dh served 18 months, 12 of which was in Iraq. So this is very near and dear to my heart. He came home safely thank God and a big part of keeping his morale up was receiving cards/letters from those who loved him at home.
I saw on the news today that an Organization in Vermont called Have a Heart is having difficulties getting enough donations and support from our state and their fear is having to shut down from lack of funds or donations. A gentleman had a "booth" set up at a nearby shopping plaza so I drove over to talk to him...It broke my heart to hear that they may not be able to continue with their delivery of care packages! I decided I was going to sponsor a soldier for $10 per month to make sure that he/she got a care package every month during their deployment. I then asked him if he had a group of people, or even one person, who made blank cards for the soldiers for the purpose of sending a letter home to a loved one. He was dumb-founded at my question and said he hadn't heard of that but thought it would be a wonderful thing to do. I told him I would do what I could to get some cards to him. Here is where my request comes in...... I am wondering if anyone would have a minute to make a card or two for the Vermont Soldiers serving in Iraq. I know there are other states who have their soldiers over there as well but being that I live in Vermont now (native of California) I would like to support my state, and I have found more people here than I care to count who don't support the war. There were many funerals here where countless picketers were lined up and down the street and it just amazes me when I see that. I know that has happened in other states as well! I just want to do a little something for our soldiers to let them know that they haven't been forgotten. So if you have a card that you can spare please let me know and I can pm you my address. I would SO appreciate any help with my new pursuit; I am so excited to be doing this!!!!! Thanks so much!!!

Hey Rachel-

You were in my downline when you were a demo! Your recruit, Barb J, has been coming to my meetings for a while now and she's such a sweetheart!

I got the message about the "Have a Heart" booth through a local autism online group I'm part of and while I don't get up north more than once or twice a month, yesterday was the day that I had an appointment up in Essex and I stopped in to make a donation.

We'll be adopting a soldier, as well. Howard was very nice to talk to and I'm so glad that he's got such a wonderful vision with this organization.

I'll be sending along some cards for you to give to him.

Thanks for doing this!

Oh Hi Erika! I don't know if we've met personally but thanks for replying! Howard is great isn't he? After speaking with him yesterday I knew I just wanted to do something, anything! Thanks so much for sending some cards!!! Your help is greatly appreciated!
It's funny you mention Barb! I haven't talked to her in so long! She is so sweet, I agree. Please tell her hello for me! I am glad she found a group closer to her area to meet with. I couldn't stay active so this year, I had to let it go. I hope to re-sign someday! :(
Thank you again for your help!

Hi,
I live in Milton just down the road from you. My daughter is in the Army reserves based at Camp Johnson. If your husbands name is Jared she knows him. Also my granddaughter knows him from the MASK program at Milton Elementary. I will send along some cards to you. Thanks for doing this for our soldiers. Linda

Hi,
Tell Jared I said hi. If you could let him know my granddaughter (Dominique) graduated from 6th grade and now goes to the big school. It seems like it was just yesterday that he was helping her do the 100 mile walk around the school....which she did twice. He was so great with her. Mask was never the same after he left. I'll get those cards out to you this week. Thanks again.

Default Hi Linda

Hi Linda,

I told Jared you said hello and he just thought it was so cool that you "found" me on this website; he says, "what a small world eh?" He said that your granddaughter was the sweetest thing ever! He said she was a real joy and has such a soft heart. He loved how hard she tried at everything.

Anyway, he wanted me to tell you hello as well! ;)

Thanks again!

Hi Linda!

Jared worked with kids for so long before we moved to Vermont. He did it for 12 years or so; he loved every minute of it. There are so many kids that he "took care of" in Milton that still say hello to him when they run into him in town. He took great pride in what he did for the community; he loved the anti drug program at the school as well. It takes a certain personality to work with children that way and he sure has that personality! It's amazing that a child can start out hating being in an after school care program to just loving it and then sending Jared cards when he was overseas. That touched his heart; I can't even tell you! Dominique was a favorite of his! ;)
Thank you for your support and for your kind words. It's awesome to chat with you as well!

Rachel,

Thank you for doing what you are doing. I'm doing it here in Missouri and while I do not support the war, I do support the troops. I know for a fact the troops love the cards we all make. Sending them home to family and friends makes it very special for them. As I said in my upload this week, the first batch I send was gone in less than 2 hours. I wish I had been able to send more. The second batch will go out by the end of the month. My friend's son now commands a company, so I still don't know if it will be enough.

To all of you making cards, please send them to Rachel. What could be a better use of our card than giving some to the troops who are away from home for so long. We make cards so they will be used. We make cards to make other happy and feel good. So, gather up all those card sitting in "storage" and send them to Rachel. Thanks

Rachel, Good For You! Thank you, thank you, thank you. God Bless.

Awe you are so sweet, Rosemary! Thank you so much for your support and kind words! I applaud you as well for supporting your soldiers!! I know it's gone on for so long and I just want everyone to come home safely! But for now, I would like them to have something special that they can use for their own loved ones. 18 months is a long time to be gone and away from your family and friends, and phone calls are wonderful but to have something that you can hold in your hand is so precious!! And knowing that it was once in your soldier's hands.......I speak from experience when I say that it's a wonderful feeling!!!

Thank you so much Rosemary for your comments and encouragement!

God Bless and keep you!

Pm me your phone no and I can meet you and give you a bunch...Also have included postage $ with the cards I've sent Sue as I know it's not cheap. Thanks..it's wonderful that someone so close to home is willing to do this. MaggieSt

Wow I just did a search in the forums for other threads requesting cards and there are SO many! I feel bad that I am yet another person asking for cards! I know that people can't respond to every request, so I know it must be hard when you look at them all to decide who to help; it was hard for me to go through them all!
I am just so appreciative of the responses I have received. I am thrilled that people who don't even live in Vermont are willing to help me. Thank you so much everyone, it means so much to me!

Hi Rachel,

There are a few of us requesting cards (myself included) but I still like to send a few out to others asking for them. I believe there are enough stampers and enough extra cards to go around. I've received hundreds and I have no doubt, you will too.

Good Luck!

Cards are on their way...finally. Sorry it took so long. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Again thanks so much for doing this for our troops and May God Bless.

From another Vermonter..Thanks for what you are doing!!! I have seen first hand the lack of support and protesters at funerals.

I will try to send you some cards some time nest week. Thanks again!
