Default Technique Lovers Challenge #14

Please put TLC14 in the keywords section when you upload your card.

This week's challenge has a name but for the life of me I can't remember it!! I think it is called Debossing. Someone help me out with the name, please!
Edit: This technique is called Debossing or Faux Metal.

Here is an example:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Here's how to do it:
Ink up your stamp with Versamark and set aside for now.
Cut a piece of cardstock a little larger than the desired shape.
Press the whole piece into a Versamark pad. You want the whole piece inked up with Versamark.
Sprinkle the whole piece with the embossing powder (EP) of your choice.
Heat until the EP melts. To prevent burning your fingers with the heat gun, either hold with tweezers or place in a small box lid. Let cool just a minute so you can handle it.
Repeat the Versamark/EP/heating process two more times, so that you have three layers of EP on your piece.
When you have the last layer on there and melted, heat it up one more time until it is good and hot, then press your stamp into the hot layers, and leave it there for about 15 seconds. The versamark on the stamp will help it release. Pull the stamp straight up.
Trim the piece as desired and use on a card.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone's work!

I have never done this technique before, but I cannot wait to try it. I have to decide which stamp to use, so many decisions...I will post my example later on today hopefully.

Yup, it's called Debossing... I told someone else this on another thread, and nobody believed me! :(

Can't wait to make something for this challenge!

Ok, this is my very first attempt at using this technique and I think the stamps i chose were too detailed. I will try again later on today w/a more simple stamp and see if that makes a difference.

great challenge, but I will have to wait until the kiddos are napping! I don't want them introduced to the heat gun!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought it was called Faux Metal also. That is what I learned it as anyway. I just love this technique. I have lots of scrapbooking to do but here is one that is in my gallery.

I'm loving this technique! Here is my second card:

sarahm25's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I'm wondering whether it IS called faux metal. When I did a search for debossing in the gallery, it showed something different...

Never tried this technique- it was great fun-- I started out simple- my scanner really doesn't do it justice.

I used this technique in a card I uploaded back in February. I didn't know what the technique was actually called, until now! Here is the link to my card:

I hope to have some time later to make some more! I love this technique!

I love this technique, I use it all the time! Just a note, sometimes I stamp my stamp in black ink before I press into the embossing powder so the image shows up a bit better. Now to contribute to the challenge, here's a card I already had in my gallery

Interesting technique! I debossed 4 stamps and have made my first card. Not sure I'll do this technique a lot again but this challenge certainly makes me try things I'd never do otherwise.
Here it is:

Here's my attempt. I've done this before but used cardboard for the background to make tags instead. This was my first try using cardstock. This card also touches on the color challenge, although I cheated by using navy too!

This is a fun technique. My scan just doesn't do the card justice. I used drywall tape on the bottom right diagonal half and sponged sliver ink over it. I also did some shading with the silver ink in other areas. The scan makes the card look rather plain, but it is much nicer IRL. My scanner also does funky things with colors.

AAARRGGHH! I've tried this several times yesterday with two different stamps and none of my attempts came out very well! Each image is lacking some of the detail. I'll try again, this time using a simpler stamp. Is there anything I may be missing on how to do this technique?

Some embossing powders don't take this technique very well. The embossing powder I used for the sun on my card didn't do well so I poured clear UTEE on it and restamped the sun. You might want to try that.

Tried it! Loved It! Allthough I must be careful on which stamp that is used. I used "All I have Seen"--a good oops. Well,I embossed the deembossing technique. A cool outcome though. Taishea.

Thumbs up Debossing

I had several going yesterday, BUT this is the best so far. I had tried it with pink embossing powder with a flower, but I kept remelting and restamping until the powder got way to thick and then kept cracking. lol Anyway I love this technique you can come up with so many different styles with all the different stamps. I think my image is still pending approval.

Here is my take on the challenge. I have never tried debossing before but it was a lot of fun. Definately on my list of to do's again. My card is snowflakes and I know that it is not the season but I wanted to use my silver EP, I can't find the gold and didn't want to use a non metallic. I like using my snowflakes with the Silver EP so here it is. I combined it with this weeks Sketch Challenge as well.

I finally had a chance to try this--what a great technique--I will definitely use this one again!

I used the clear EP with Copper metallic ink. I think the result would have been much more dramatic with the copper EP (But I didn't have any!)

Here's my card (pending approval)

The process of placing a stamp in multiple layers of hot embossing powder and letting it cool is called "debossing". You can also do "debossing" while dry embossing, by placing the image with the "embossed" (raised) side down.

The process of using mulitple layers of metallic (copper, silver, gold, etc) embossing powder or UTEE on cardstock or chipboard is called "faux metal"... so most of you are debossing on faux metal, because you are using metallic ep.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion!
