Hello ladies,
I am a teacher and I just attended a great conference that talked about all the great things google has to offer. I saw the list of the blogs that was started on SCS and wanted to share with an easy way to read ALL of your favorite blogs. YES, I said all....I mean if you have five favorites, how do you find the time to check them all out?
Well, I am here to tell you about a great tool that can condense all of your favorite blogs, and their new updates in one stop. You do have to have a gmail account. What does that mean?
Well, you have to go to www.google.com and sign up for an email account. Then you can go to http://www.google.com/reader and type in your favorite blogs. The site funnels all the latest updates to one easy page. There are so many great blogs out there, but who has time to read them all? I can honestly say that now it takes me about 20 minutes a day to be kept up on my favorite blogs.
SCS has given me so much as well as all the members so I just wanted to say thank you and give back in some way. Check out the site-you won't be sorry!
I just have a google account, no email account. Love google reader. Now my email is nice and empty!

Can you have more than one if you want? Like one "listing" for stamping/crafting blogs and one for non-crafting or whatever?
Yes, you can. I have at least 100 blogs/sites in mine and have about six different folders (so far), eg: stamping blogs, photo blogs, writer blogs. It makes keeping up with your favorites soooo much easier.
The only glitch is that people need to remember to enable the RSS feed on their blogs. There are a couple SCS blogs I wanted to sub to but can't for this reason. If you recognize yourself, please do fix this. It will mean more people reading your blog!

I tried google reader and didn't like it. I prefer saving my (over 100) favorite blogs in folders on my personal toolbar (Mozilla Firefox) and then I right click on a folder and click "open in tabs". I can quickly click through them all.
I like to see a blog in it's entirety... the blog banner, the side bar with the photo of the blog owner, etc. With google reader it's like you're not even looking at the person's blog, just their latest post with none of the frills.

That's just my personal opinion, of course. :-)
All you have to do is click on the blog name and it opens up the blog. One click in and one click out, that is all it takes. Hope that helps you.

I signed up for google reader but have been having problems getting typepad blogs on it....anyone have any ideas??
I've noted this problem with Typepad as well. You can preview the text, but not the images. This is the only blog type I've had this problem and, like you, no idea why.

That doesn't have anything to do with Typepad-specific, it has to do with how the blog owner chooses to have their blog viewed -- either fully, or just an excerpt. If you click on the bold blog name at the top of the reader bar, it will take you immediately to the blog where you can view everything.
Another Google Reader fan here (and I'm WAY behind on reading this week)!
Thx to this discussion, I loaded all my blogs into google reader and find that these past few days I can view a lot more blogs in less time than I was previously doing. If I want to see the whole blog I just click onto the post title and it opens a window with the full blog. I'm so glad I did this. Now I can save even more blogs since I have all this extra free time LOL!!!! So, you see, I'm not really saving any time...I'm justing reading more blogs in that same time frame LOL!
Oh I am glad you posted this...I like the frills too. I may check out google reader but I'm sure I will miss seeing the "pretty stuff". TFS ladies...fabulous info.
Guess I should check to see if my blog can easily be read or not.

I love google reader too! I've been using it for a few months and it makes it so much easier to keep up on blogs. There are only a few blogs that I have to click on to see the full story... everyone else has pictures displayed.
For blog owners.. anyone know if google reader "hits" your blog? I was wondering if the stats for the blogs I read are updated or not.
Sensie, I just tried it and it worked. You just copy the website addy of the blog you want to add and paste it in to "add subscription"
Super easy!
FYI - I noticed in Internet Explorer that if you click on the button for RSS feeds on the right side of the screen, it takes you to your reading list in blogger.
The cool thing with google reader is that you can check on your reading list, no matter what computer you are on.
I've been using Google Reader for about a month now and LOVE how easy it is to keep on top of things. Do note that new posts aren't immediately updated in Google Reader. So, when I'm stalking Nichole's blog (Papertrey) before her reveals, I go directly to her blog as I'm just a tad impatient.
I was informed about Google Reader through someone else's blog and tried it out. LOOOOVE it!! Yes you only see the latest updates, not the entire blog but like an earlier poster said, you can simply click on the blog header and it'll pull up the whole blog. Google Reader is a time saver for me!!! I read my blogs in the morning with coffee and then at nights, sometimes in between. Lol.

www.bloglines.com is a similar service. I've been happy with it so far - I haven't used Google reader but it sounds like the same concept. I have my list of blogs in a column on the left - they appear bold if there is an update, and I click on one to view the update in the right pane. I can save individual posts under their name as well. I had started with the IE7 feed thing, but kept having problems and it wasn't updating on it's own - maybe I had too many for it to keep track of? But bloglines works for me.
