CROP A DILE QUESTION
I couldn't find in hard details on this elsewhere, sorry if its out there already. Those of you have the REAL crop-a-dile how hard does it squeeze. I mean could someone with arthritis in their hand and wrist do it easy enough?? Have a customer who has trouble just with the punches so.
I have a generic knock-off version (I know the horror), and I can do it, but thinking others wouldn't be able to. Wondering if the read mccoy is easier/harder/the same. thanks for your info!!:o

Hi Lori, that's a good question because what may seem easy to squeeze to me may be a nightmare for someone whose hands are weaker. I just got mine out in response to your question and my observation is that the mechanism is smooth and easy when you squeeze. The obstacle might be something that I didn't anticipate - the whole thing is quite heavy. When using mine, I think it makes a hole so easily and also puts the eyelet in like a dream. I also think that if you couldn't squeeze with one hand, you can push down on it with one handle on a table and the other being the one pushed down on.

I have Carpal Tunel in both wrists, but ESPECIALLY my right and I have no issue using it. Sometimes punching thru metal (like altoid or lunch tins) or heavy coasters, I need to use both hands, but not to set the eyelets or go thru cardstock.

Well, I guess I will have to get one for them to try first. Cause my mother in law has a hard time just holding the punches and squeezing, so if there is weight involved as well.....not sure that will work for her. When looking at them they seem quite bulky in size, so that made me think, she would have trouble with it, if it didn't squeeze like butter.

I have RA and I LOVE mine it didn't come with the storage box so it takes some space. It is very easy to use. I have more trouble holding onto a hammer than using my crop. i think SU has put a fairly steep price on it though.
I find it to be a little clunky to deal with, and has its limitations as far as how deep into a project you can go...........but man oh man, the way it punches through tins, chipboard, etc...........makes up for it.

see I would think the hammer would be harder to use too, but thats how they both still set them.......
I was thinking the price was kinda steep too, and was wondering if I could pull off talking them into it, if they had trouble using it, or it was too hard for them. Just pre-thinking here outloud

It has saved my marriage. When I showed my hubby, he takes my hands in his and goes, "Have I told you lately how much I love you??" He hated the thump thump thump at 2am. Can't imagine why!!
As for ease of use, you don't need to squeeze hard - BUT - if you have small hands it is awkward to use. It is a bit on the hefty side as well. It has 8 tools in one - 2 hole punches - which are on the top and bottom, and then the "Mouth" part of it has 2 rotating heads opposite each other. These can be used in many combinations for setting a variety of embellishments. Snaps, buttons, eyelets, you name it.
im sure my mom will toss in her $.02, but i have her crop-a-dile...she passed it on when she found she couldnt use it. she also has bad hands, and apparently was able to use it on 'good' days- but not her 'bad.'
guess im not sure why she passed it on, instead of just hanging onto it for her good days, but im not going to complain! hopefully she will chime in with her experiences with it

You are probably over squeezing. I usually give it a real gental squeeze, check and squeeze again.
I find it takes very little pressure but is is large and tough to get my hands around. I do love it.
I love mine. I have found that although it is clunky and feels heavy when you pick it up or carry it, once you hold the handles as you are going to use it, if no longer feels heavy and clunky. I guess it's that ergo design, or something.

This is me, too - I love eyelets and had so many, but my husband hated it when I'd set them any time he was home. He LOVES my Crop-a-dile.
As for the size of it, I think its size is the main reason it's so easy to set things - the size of the handles gives it more leverage. Lovely physics! It does make it a bit unwieldy, but I think it'd be a lot harder to use if it was any smaller.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I love my crop-a-dile. It probably just depends on how severe her arthritis is. I think it's remarkable. I love it. It's much easier to use than any of my punches. HTH!

When I first started using mine i put the male part of the crop a dile into the part of the eyelet that stuck up (the underneath part that you want squashed)and it would demolish it everytime. Then I decided to turn it over and put the male part of the c-a-d into the top pretty part that shows of the eyelet before i squashed it. (Does that make sense?)Comes out pretty every time now.

I bet the 'man hands' woman from Sienfeld would have no problems at all.
LOL "man hands" fits this product ~ I was thinking about buying but I am glad I didn't... while at a scrap I was able to use it and although it worked quite well, the size of the grip was a complaint of more than a few. TRY before you buy, would be best!
My MIL has arthritis and she was able too - if she can do the *motion* the cropodile requires itself without pain, she should be ok. Maybe she can test run one somewhere?
