Hi ladies!

I'm the new managing editor of Take Ten magazine, and being a stamper myself, I wanted to request that some of you send in your cards for possible publication in the magazine. We're trying to get some new names in the magazine, and loads of you wonderful ladies are really talented. We're not just looking for cards featuring Stampin' Up products. We want a wide-range of products featured. Our next artwork submission deadline is July 15th. We're not looking for a specific type of card, just those that can be completed in ten minutes or less.

Please send your submissions to:

Stampington & Co.
c/o Take Ten
22992 Mill Creek Road, Suite B
Laguna Hills, CA 92653

If you have any questions, please feel free to private message me!

Thanks!

I wonder if they will "stick" with the 10 minutes or less criteria. Some of those cards they show are definitely NOT 10 minute cards !

For the last year or so my friends and I have been very disappointed with the take ten. We used to go crazy when a new issue came out, happy to get our hands on a copy. We would study it and case the samples.
I think the cards have gotten too weird for our taste.
I was at Michaels last week looking at a copy of take ten and couldn't find one card that excited me.

One of the things that bugs me about them is how many they will have on the same theme. Pages and pages. I have been disappointed with the last 2 issues.

I agree with this. I don't see how most could be done in 10 minutes...the coloring of images or cutting out of stamped shapes could take that long if you want to do a nice job. So, even though I know they say they should only take 10 minutes, I don't really look at the magazine that way.

The OP is the Assistant Editor to this publication. If you'd like to see changes in Take Ten, why not PM her some of the things you would welcome seeing?

She can pass this info along to the editor!

I'm sure they would appreciate any helpful, positive suggestions you may have for improving their publication!

A publication will only be as good as the submissions it receives.

That said, you also have an opportunity to submit projects you believe would be ideal it! They're on the hunt for fresh work and fresh faces, as she said, so why give it a whirl?! You just might see your design gracing the pages! ;)

I love Take Ten magazine and am always anxiously awaiting the next issue. I love that it encompasses all styles and introduces me to new things. I love the way the magazine showcases cards of the same color theme together on the page. A very classy publication.

how nice of you to post this for us! I hope to see simpler cards, I may be in the minority but I don't like vintage or artsy stuff - I'm just a simple girl! In fact if you put out a book of lisalisa and juliehrr stuff I would buy it in a heart beat! I love their style!

Is there a way to submit electronically? I have a hard time parting with my cards if someone is just going to donate them . . . silly I know, but at least if I submit electronically and then they are asked for, I feel like they are "actually" being considered.

Stampington publications, to my knowledge, only receive submissions via post, and not electronically.

I, and I suspect many artists, too, would strongly prefer to submit electronically, for numerous reasons.

We need to communicate this to the publisher directly, and perhaps, they will consider it! ;)

I hope some of you wonderful card makers will submit to this publication. I am so tired of seeing headless paperdolls and artsy stuff on every page. I cancelled my subscription to The Stampers Sampler for that reason. (I did write them a letter with my input.) I bought the last Take Ten without looking through it and was very disappointed. I was hoping that with the passing of a few years, it might be different. No so. I'd love to see some Splitcoast talent in their publications.

I have noticed that quite a number of magazines both in the U.S and across the pond have become very "arty-farty".You almost need an art degree to make the projects and in no way are these quick or easy. Pehaps this is a natural progression because stamping has been so popular. The members of SCS produce masses of lovely work which is not complicated but because of the ability to put together their materials in such a way that they look so sophicated. More power to your elbows girls!

Perhaps one day I will submit a card or two. I love Take Ten. Everything about it. The hefty feel of the quality paper they use for the cover, the bonus 'art' papers you sometimes get, the variety of cards, materials and styles, and on and on and on.

It inspires me!

(But not enough to submit....yet:>)

Does anyone USE the bonus Art papers? I never want to pull them out, I always leave them in and admire them. If you use them you are brave and awesome.

Thanks Pocket...I've submitted for your Autumn challenge (as well as two of my dear stamping friends) and we used primarily NON SU images, so hopefully we will see them in print!

Thanks for your reply Julie! I thought this was the case. How can we persuade them to accept electronic submissions? I honestly think it is just such a better way to submit.

Especially since it's not cheap to buy all the stuff we use to make a card!

I think Take 10 is realizing that people haven't been happy with the publication, and they've even published some "complaint" letters to the editor to let people know that they are listening.

This will crack up some of you. I recently bought the Take 10 Catch Up Issue, which features cards that didn't make it into the regular publication, and liked many of the cards in it better!! I've been pondering what that means, and wonder if I need to see a shrink. LOL

true but at least by asking for actual cards you can ensure they are original and not someone elses.

I didn't know the catchup did this will have to take a look next time. I think it would be hard to chose what goes in a regular issue and what doesn't but at least they do the catchup so we can see the ones that didn't make it in their eyes.

there are so many styles out there and not everythign appeals to all I suppose.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge soon and submitting something - this looks like a good place to start!

I'm glad that they will get to see my work "in person" instead of electronicaly... I might be able to get my stamping together... but photography as well?! Let's have the experts do that!

Wow - glad you posted the "real" submission date!!! July 15 is NOT the date listed in the Take Ten issue I just looked at - it says Aug 1st!!!!

I have cards I want to submit and would have missed the date if I hadn't seen this post.

(So you know I'm not imagining this, see page 144 of the Summer Take Ten for the submission info. It clearly states that Aug 1st is the date for Winter submissions and Nov 1st is date for Spring 08 submissions.)

Love Take Ten and I thought the Summer issue was delightful - more like the earlier issues with less arty stuff and more actual 10 minute cards!:-D

I really want to thank everyone for their comments. Positive or negative, they are very helpful. As I mentioned before, i'm the new managing editor, and I have a vision of where I'd like Take Ten to go. I believe it should consist of quick, easy, and purposeful cards. Because I, myself, am an avid SU! user (addict. lol), as well as CTMH, Stampendous! and all the good stuff, I'm hoping that my love for the craft will carry into the magazine. That's why I posted here. Long before I even started working at Stampington, I've been on this site, loving and admiring the gorgeous cards people work up. I can take all the feedback I've been given and inform the publisher of what the people want. Also, the best way to change the magazine is to submit more of what you'd like to see. Yes, we do get a lot of submissions, but they tend to be in the more artsy style. If you'd like them changed, submit more of your stuff!

I'm also going to ask about electronic submissions. It'd make things a great deal easier for me, since I have to open up the artwork myself!

Take care ladies! I'll keep everyone posted.

I see a major problem with electronic submissions - the quality of the photos sent in could really affect the product that Take Ten is able to produce. Just because something can be sent electronically doesn't mean it will be of the color/clarity, etc that the publication needs.

Personally I like sending in "real" cards and knowing that someone on the other end might be opening the package and say "AHHHHH!" That doesn't happen with electronic cards, in my opinion. Just my 2cents...make that 41 cents!!!;)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but typically you will send an electronic submission of the card and then if the publisher wants to publish it, they will contact you to send the actual piece in...sending an electronic submission gives them an idea of what you are submitting and whether it is something they are looking for...but again, I may be way off base and would be happily corrected if I am...

bumping to find that out also!

I agree that the last few Take 10s haven't been as inspiring... I used to mark every other page for all the ideas:(, lately I've decided it's too pricey to get all the artsy style.

I appreciate the post from the OP because it shows an interest in our opinions and a desire to have submissions from this awesome community! What a compliment!

We need to put our cardstock where our mouths are and submit cards that are truly TAKE TEN and SCS quality. I've never submitted anything before, but Stampington's desire to see what their consumer wants might make me change my mind.... Hmmmm....

Thanks for the post!

You're actually correct. For our Memories publication, we do take electronic submissions, and then if the publisher likes them, she has the editor request for the actual pieces to be sent in. Because the process is like this, I'm going to bring up to the publisher that we do the same. The only problem I see with it is that the amounts of Take Ten and Stampers' Sampler submissions is insane and could be difficult to go through electronically.

To answer your question, there are no restrictions to submitting cards that have been posted online via SCS or blogs. The only restriction on submitting is on cards that have already been published in other magazines.

That is good to know. One reason I've refrained from submitting cards is because I've already *posted* them to SCS. (I'm kind of motivated by the instant feedback I get at this site! ) Now that I know you will still consider and accept them, I will have to get my act together and send some in!
